not really when you think further ahead, the mc is gonna need motivation for cultivation. And nothing is a better motivator than love, also if done well adds depth to the MC and the love intrests giving secondary characters a greater purpose. Cultivation novels are different than western fantasy as most lead to immortality, thus as time goes on these mcs need super motivation like family, love, strength (btw this is the weakest motivator), curiousity. i cant think of more but for eastern fantasy i believe its necessary. Yes, some novels can do so but not all do it well,and these are the snooze fest books, and those that do don't need it. idk why i wrot a reply this long but i did mostly cuz im bored
