As a medical student I can say that this novel is very good and has accurate medical terminology and elements so far. Yes, it is medicine orientated, there are many special terms (medical jargons) used all over the place. So far it it heavily surgery based but I can see that he may cover many other fields in the future. This novel is a blessing for me!😂 So interesting to read...

Tell me, is there any chance for the resident doctor (or should I called it, newbie doctor?) to do stitches on the emergencies patient in the real world?

Yes, it is, at least in my country. Residents need to be given the chance to learn and prove themselves as they will become attenting physicians. A resident at the Emergency Department will also need to be given the chance to get experience. Doing sutures is not hard and the patients' conditions in this novel that need those are not severe or something. For an intern it is very hard to get the chance to do something but it is not excluded if you are exceptional or you know some doctors that would give you permission.

But the stitches ling ran did to Mr. Yang in his father clinic is not realistic right? Since the wound quite deep he supposed to use microscope lens to suture the blood vessels, yes? And that's not something that resident doctor could do.

Yes, that part is not that realistic without a microscope, but well, this is the beauty of magical realism. Anyway that procedure was not well-descripted, maybe he had something to magnify, idk.

Hi! I hope you don't mind I join this discussion since the review and replies are more interesting than those reviews with emoticon and unclear letters there. I'd say this story start with a good base, the suture is the foundation for a doctor, not only for the surgeon but also for the dentist, podiatrists, and much qualified medical personnel should know how to do suture. But, unfortunately, this basic skill is not explored too deeply. it's never mentioned that there are many kinds of suture needles as well as the thread used for suture. different wounds need different threads, right? at first, Ling Ran should only know how to make ****** stitches (before he gets that vertical suture skill) this ****** suture is impossible to leave no marks on the skins, not to mention this suture needs to be removed after few days (if he used non-absorbable threads). the nurse there also seem like decoration. doctor should tell the nurse what kind of needle and thread he wants when he needs to make suture, right? and the nurse will get it for him, like ' hey, get me 1/4 circle needle, 4-0 nylon' for example. In this story, those nurse look they paid only to watch the doctor treat patient. Well, I know this is a magical realism story, but nothing wrong being more realistic, right?

Yeah, the story is MC centered and the nurses seem to have just a decorative role, but maybe what they do, like handling needles and threads, is made off-scene. Regarding the description of the needle types, it would be interesting to hear about whether it is better to use a cutting or reverse-cutting needle, triangular shaped or not and more, I must agree. Regarding threads, the author seems to discuss a little about diameter mentioning 0 threads and some others, and when he stitched that girl with catgut thread I guess it scratches a little the subject of materials. I don't remember if there is also something about nylon... The author would need a chapter or two to talk about the situations when it is indicated to use a needle/thread or another, yeah.

Haha...I also noticed that the nurse only act like receptionist, calling patient only and standing there watching how handsome MC was. It's quite waste effort since nursing education is not easy either. Suture technique also only mention one style, vertical horizontal suture although there's other suture technique as well. Last reward from newbie package also not related with medical skill at all 😑
