I really loved this novel in the beginning and tried to stick with it. Translation quality and speed are great. But I just can’t take it anymore with the ever expanding list of names of people and places. I was getting so confused and just had to drop this. So many freaking characters. Does real Chinese readers in fact actually know about most of these historical figures and time periods etc? I think my brain cells not sufficient to process this over stuffed info dump of a novel. Real shame

LIKEI really liked the story but found myself getting lost too frequently trying to recall who exactly a particular character was again. It started detract from my enjoyment of reading it and I even found myself skipping over all the insanely detailed army and government reorganization every so often. Over all , I think the novel would benefit from a healthy dose of trimming. Would probably reduce the actual size of the novel by half at least
Hildegarde:problem is a westerner, me an asian west of cn lul does count, cant even remember so many cn names too... my principle is if you like the plot then go for it, to hell with names lmao...
That's exactly what my Nan does, which sounds like I'm cussing you but I'm not - she's a 75 year old avid reader who has read bloody thousands of books in her lifetime, so she knows her **** is what I'm sayin.
tektite:Im the same way so i write down small notes on people and places. I did this with doom lord because it takes a while to update and i forgot a lot of characters over time. The notes were pretty ****** for example:Liu Hao-original friend-fat-warrior. I wrote them like that to get my memory jogging.
Lol i when i stocfile chaper for 2-3 months and start reading anf wondet what the **** was the name of mc
Fruittella:i hardly remember any name of characters in any novel, LOL very few MCs' names i could remember for a while.
DaoistKatOnTheScen:i always forget names, i just categorise them into ‘good’ ‘bad’ and ‘mcs friends’ 😂
I found myself skipping large chunks of those crazy detailed military rearrangements etc. Wasn’t sure if the goal was filling a certain word count, or if the author genuinely liked these sorts of detailed info about such topix in real life. It’s still a good novel for those who can ignore this glaring brain hemorrhage inducing issue
Heretoc:Similar situation here. Half of the name makes no sense unless you are a Chinese historian. The political , administration, judiciary etc are just tedious. The army warfare just stretches on and on, especially those special scenarios. Ughh
