This family despised him. The only one who cared about him was his father. This is stupidity, not altruism. He just bound himself to the goal of his own free will. I'm not demanding a perfect protagonist, but he doesn't have to be THAT stupid.

No, I stopped reading this novel. Lately, I've only been reading fan fiction. Here are some interesting works, if you are interested: The Witcher: Half-Elf; GOT: Reborn as Frey; Game of Thrones: Lord of the Seven Seas; Snakes and Ladders (Hollywood TV series). If you are only interested in original works, then you can just ignore them.
