Review Detail of BourneShadow in The Mech Touch

*I have read every single chapter up to 1736, skipping and skimming nothing* Slight inclusion of very mild spoilers that mean nothing out of context )) First, I have to say that the critics of the Vandal arc aren’t wrong. When I first read about the conscription, I assumed a time skip would be employed at some point. When they arrived at the Aeon corona system, I assumed time would be sped up on the planet rather than slowing down- this seemed like a great chance to accelerate the war ark. Nevertheless, the MC grew a lot during the arc. It is a bit of a stretch, but this is shaping up to be a 5000 chapter story at this rate. Dedicating 600+ chapters to preliminarily shape the MCs character from a timid indoctrinated weakling into a prototype of a business leader able to survive in a cutthroat world has at least some merit. Before you discount me completely- yes, I agree, there was some ‘false advertisement’. Being disconnected from the system for so long was counter to what most system novels do and many fellow readers will be justifiably annoyed at that. Me? I have no issue. Whilst I love your standard system trope chewing gum novels as much as the next guy sometimes, this isn’t that. In one of the recent chapters, the author described serving in the army as a means, not an end. That is the same thing I have to say for my perspective on his usage of the system. Whilst I cannot speak for the author, what I see from his work is an amalgamation. In mech touch speak, the design seed of the novel has taken fractured spiritual pieces from many different genres and used them to craft its own unique identity. Many people comment about the novel not conforming to expectations from various genres. Well... why should it? In webnovel speak, why continue to define a story by the same tags it started with if the story has come to a point where they are no longer the best choice? What if Ves loses the Metal Scroll for good? I’m sure the readers will riot(I’m sure the thought of introducing this plot element gives the author a headache for this reason) , but my point is that what if it makes the story better for it? Unlike so many people saying how the story has deteriorated, I have actually read the whole thing word for word. Whilst I agree that there were times where I was weary with parts of the story, I have never been disappointed. When ves returns from war, the Story picks up and becomes so much more phenomenal. The start of the new mech generation and his new mechs with their expanding repertoire of abilities are increasingly interesting to read about Tbh,I really tip my hat to the author. Perhaps the difference between phase tech mechs and mastercraft mechs are a subtle jibe at the non conformity of this story to cookie cutter ideologies. I’m sure any mildly intelligent person can think up 100 arguments against anything they wish. ‘Mech designers are unstable, hence justifying the MC making retarded decisions that help the plot’ I’ll take that excuse at face value. Why not? It makes for an interesting plot point. ‘the novel is so much about business but the business aspect isn’t realistic’ I’m entertained reading about it. I’m not a business magnate myself, nor do I expect the author to be too perfect? ‘What’s with cultivation? Why doesn’t it work like this or like that?’ Spirituality is obscure. Can the author make it more obvious? Does a massive pirate ship full of spirituality users not hammer home the point that only the strongest organisations really use it? Whilst Ves always calls it his unique advantage, there have been many hints in the story that he is well aware that he is not unique. He is aware that he is reinventing the wheel in some areas. He chooses not to think about that because it is not helpful to him. Many things are inherently open to debate. The author is building a universe. Where’s the fun if it’s perfect? I encourage fellow readers to read everything. This story is worth it. Enjoy!!

My comment is long and meandering, parts may be a bit of a rant. Sorry about that. I really loved this story and wanted to give a voice in the reviews which is at least slightly more objective and diverse than 1)This story is awesome, love mechs’ And 2)This story just gets worse worse and worse’ Whilst I am obviously biased towards 1, I tried to address some of the points of people who support 2, because it’s really a shame that people don’t give this story a chance and start skim reading a couple hundred chapters in. Anyway. Read it! Think about what you’re reading! Don’t be annoyed because there hasn’t been a system screen for 7636394 chapters! ;)

I completely agree with this. The Vandal arc is painful but the growth he has from it not only made him more likable, but more importantly it made sense bc we were with him the whole time. The story after the vandal arc has been incredibly satisfying, and his declining need for the system beyond a mech rating capacity is also something I like as it feels more fair and as if he has a stronger grip on his destiny. Great review!

To be completely honest, I feel like the story gets better after 1750 chapters to the current(1812). there was some dips and there was some excitement whilst reading to the lastest chapter however the detail is great if not excessive. It reminds me of reading a book instead of a novel. It is like it envelopes me into a whole new world sometimes it is like a movie with the space combat and the other 'dangers'.Other times I wish there were more chapters to read but that would mean the quality would go down and I don't wish for that. I am glad I stuck with this novel. It is a slow start and I will admit there were some parts that I skipped as it brought 0 value to the story. I would even be bold to say that you could skip the most of the war arc and read a summary of it instead, if someone does that.

Hey :) glad that you agree. Im at ch 1910 and I still feel like the story has been a constant uphill!! The challenge now is that any mountain has a peak) I hope theres a long, sturdy plateau to be found there! Sure, I could see how some people might want to skip the war ark, which is fair enough if theyre not interested, but if youre enjoying the story and are as chapter starved as I am, I do suggest you go back and reread it in full. Whilst admittedly not as thrilling as the rest of the story, it has its own golden nuggets!👍🏻 As for a book point- In my eyes Mech Touch is more than good enough to give many bestsellers a tun for their money)

I'm on 1012 and he came back with Vandals about 50 chapters ago but now he is another posting. The war itself is still ongoing. What I wish to know is, in the next 1000 chapters how much actual designing will there be as I don't want to read hundreds of chapters about his adventuring/dungeon diving/secret realm exploring analogues.

Hey Reaper! That second posting is very short and is followed by a quick mission for flashlight which is actually quite interesting. Youre almost done with the War arc. There’re lots of cool mech designs coming up! Enjoy! Jealous of you :D

In terms of a number, i think it was about 6 + a couple variants off the top of my head in the Next 1000 chapters. i might be missing one or two. theyre all very interesting Though! Except maybe a private commission one which i disliked.(as did Ves)

Hey. I dont remember exactly. I think he returns to the bright republic a bit before chapter 1000 And the war ends quite soon after that, though there are a couple war related plot points after he returns

Im currently enjoying the novel and expecting it to be a lot better thanks to the comments. I just have one question, does it have romance later on and if it does, how good is it?

BourneShadow
BourneShadowLv15BourneShadow

Hey! It does have romance and the romance is quite unusual. without spoiling too much, The partner is from a state with a very Unique ideology. I do not like her at all personally, but their relationship is definitely interesting. The romantic partner plays a big role in his life, at least at the current stage of the story. however, theres not much lovey dovey romance

Im at Chapter 2219 now, on the Nixean Gap Arc and its really gonna be exciting i think, with all the new spiritual technique that Ves recently learned plus the crystal alien technology data he aquired with his deal with Master Willix. Oh and also, what James found out that will happen in the future; something about ves encountering maybe the five scrolls compact? (in my opinion) I just cant wait on what will happen next

well, as someone who is just getting to chapter 500 and is already getting tired of the Vandal arc, knowing that I have another 500 chapters to go of this is a real obstacle for me. my favorite chapters to date were when Ves was designing Mechs for Iron Spirits.
