I was under the impression this was a slightly more advanced medieval setting ? They did use a guillotine to execute his mother. Creating a completely modern island in the middle of all that seems a little odd.

Completely fair, he’s on his own and has to set up a fully functioning country after just losing his mother & getting exiled for something he didn’t do, all while one of his siblings laughed. He could do with some luck to help him at least get things up & running!
