The carriage slowed to a stop, and Bel held her breath. They were in Darkcrypt, right in front of the castle she had lived in with Davien and his family for the short period she was here.
She turned to look at Davien, who was staring at her with an odd expression on his face as if trying to read her emotions. Bel didn't know how she felt. It was hard to say if she was happy to be here, but she was happy to be with Davien.
"Ready?" he asked as he stretched out his hand to her after giving her time to take it all in.
Bel looked at his hand, then his face. "Yes," she said, smiling at him.
She knew things between them weren't exactly rosy, but with Davien next to her, she could weather any storm, and knowing that Davien had no plan to let her go boosted her confidence more than anything else. She would be lying if she said she didn't think about Davien's family—especially the mother-in-laws—and the elders.
