decided to stay behind at the house waiting for Edward. All I could do was watch as sheets were placed over our furniture. Alice packed all of my clothes and put them into Edward's car for me. Everyone had already left a couple of hours ago. It took a lot of convincing for me to leave with Edward. I felt that he really needed me at the moment.

It was around 4:00 pm when he showed up back at the house. All of my things were in his car so all we needed to do was leave.

It was only when Edward walked towards me did I realize how miserable he looked. His hair was disheveled in every direction. He wore a blank expression on his face. I knew he didn't want to show his emotions to me at the moment.

There were plenty of things that I wanted to say, but I decided that it wasn't the time or place to say them.

I stood up and walked towards him. "Hey. Are you ok?"

"Yea. Let's go before I change my mind." All I could do was nod. I got into the front seat as Edward drove away from our home. I looked at our house before it disappeared into the trees.

"How was she?" Edward kept his eyes on the road and sighed.

"Upset. I really hurt her. I know you are right about this being a bad idea, but I want her to live. To grow old and have a family even if that means not being with me. We wouldn't be able to have a family anyway." Oh yes you would. Though I know it will be traumatic for the both of them.

"I understand that you want her to live Edward. That's a valid point but I don't agree with this. You are just driving a wedge between to two of you. Leaving isn't going to solve anything. You break up with her, fine, it's stupid but fine. But leaving? How is this going to solve anything? Carlisle didn't want me to say this but your being stupid."

I stared at Edward. Waiting for him to say something. To say anything. Edward just stared at the road and didn't respond.

Fine. "Just so you know, I'm not leaving Bella." That got Edward's attention. He instantly pulled over onto the side of the road. We were just on the outskirts of Forks. I could hike it home from here. Edward put the car in park before turning to me. His golden eyes turned serious.

"What are you talking about?"

"What do you think? You can leave but I'm not."

"Then why did you get into the car in the first place?"

"I got into the car because I thought I would be able to change your mind. But I can clearly tell that that's not going to happen." Before he could say anything, I opened the car door and hopped out. I shut the door and walked towards our house. I didn't hear Edward get out of his car before I felt his hand on my shoulder.

"Sophie stop! You are being completely unreasonable." I turned around and stared at him.

"I'm being unreasonable?! I don't want to leave her behind. She needs someone. You are just going to cause her harm by leaving her."

"She's not alone. She has Charlie and her friends."

"She won't stay with them. She will push Charlie away and will stop talking to her friends. I know it and you do too."

Edward stood motionlessly. His face was unreadable to me. "She probably will at first, but she will get over it eventually. She will open up more and start spending more time with her friends. She will later graduate high school and go to a college somewhere. Probably somewhere in Florida. Soon, she will meet someone special and get married. She will be able to grow old with him and have a long and happy life with their children. She will be able to watch her grandchildren grow older. I will eventually just become a memory to her. She probably won't forget about me or us, but she will be thankful for that memory. Because us leaving meant her having this future of having a loving husband surrounded by their children. I can't give any of that to her Sophie. I want to grow old with her and to have children, but I can't. She deserves everything. It will be hard for her but it will get better as time goes on." I just stand outside of the car staring at him.

I never really realized that he wanted to grow older with Bella and for them to have children. He wants her to have a life where she has children and grandchildren. My viewpoint of him being selfish is starting to diminish. I'm not ok with him leaving. New Moon was my least favorite book of the series. When I first read the book, I thought Edward was being a selfish jerk. This explanation for why we need to leave makes more sense to me. He looked broken but he was trying to be strong.

We just stared at each other for a couple of minutes. He finally sighed. "Please Sophie, get back into the car. We need to head to Denali." I nod my head and walk back to the car. I buckle my seat belt in when Edward gets into the driver's seat. He pauses for a second before putting the car back into drive.

I looked out the window and could only watch as we left Forks. I hoped we would be back because I wanted to avoid the plot of New Moon. I didn't know how I would even be able to prevent Bella from jumping off of the cliff.

After some time I looked over at Edward. He was lost in his own mind. Just watching the road and driving in silence.

"So we are going to Denali?"

"I thought we could stop there for a bit before heading to Ithaca. Everyone except Carlisle and Esme will be there."

Ithaca, New York. The Cullens besides Edward go there during New Moon. Jasper becomes a philosophy student and Carlisle works nights at the hospital.

I look at Edward. "Your not coming to Ithaca with us are you."

"I'm sorry Sophie. I just want to be alone for now. I will take you up to Denali and then I'm leaving for a while."

"Please let me go with you Edward. I don't want you to be alone. I'm worried about you."

"I'll visit when I can. This is just something that I need at the moment." I knew there was nothing I could do that will change his mind.

All I could do was nod and say ok.

The rest of the drive remained in silence. I would try to talk to Edward here and there but there wasn't anything I could do to cheer him up.

We arrived to Denali the next day. It took us about 24 hours to get there. Once we arrived at the house, it was all I could do not to jump out of the car.

I got out of the car while Edward grabbed my things for me.

I walked up to the front door to be met with Rosalie. I smiled at her and gave her a hug.

She smiled at me but it didn't reach her eyes.

"What is it? Is something wrong?" Rosalie looked at Edward who's face went from shock to angry.

"Our cousins have two new members living with them."

Wait, two?

Laurent entered my mind. In the books, he comes to Denali to learn about feeding off of animals. I wasn't thrilled that he was here but we wouldn't be staying here long.

If Laurent was one of them, then who was the other one that was here?

stood in front of Rosalie motionlessly. Laurent was here. But who was the other one?

Rosalie kept looking at Edward. He sighed. "Your right. I will stay until you all leave for New York." Rosalie seemed to relax a little.

"Rosalie. What's going on?" She turned and looked at me. She put her hands on my shoulders to comfort me. Ok, what's going on?

"Do you remember Laurent?" I nodded my head. "Well, he decided to come up here to try our diet. Apparently he came just to try it but he decided to stay a little longer." Ok. I knew he would be here, but him being here is making me nervous. He was part of James coven for a long time.

Rosalie squeezed my shoulders to comfort me. "It'll be ok."

I sighed. "What about the other one?" Rosalie became rigged.

"His name is Alex." Wait, Alex? There wasn't an Alex in the books.

"Alex?"

"Yes. He joined the Denali's last year." I'm confused. Why would there be a new character in the story? My presence here has caused some changes, but I never imagined that a new character would be added. Why would that angel lady do this? A thought popped into my head.

"Has he always been a vegetarian?" Both of them got quiet. This can't be good.

Edward sighed. "No. He became a vegetarian about 50 years ago when he left his old coven." Oh. So he used to drink from humans. Him switching diets reminded me a little of Jasper. It must of been hard for him.

"Who was his old coven?" Rosalie's mouth went to a straight line. It was clear to me that she was nervous.

Rosalie looked me square in the eyes. "He was previously in the Volturi." I stilled. Everything in my body froze. There was a new vampire that didn't exist in the books who was previously part of the Volturi.

I'm not going to lie, the Volturi scared the crap out of me. I did not want to meet this guy.

"I'm not going in there."

Edward pulled me into a hug. "It will be ok Sophie. We will just be here for two days. We just want you to be rested before we move across the country. We also felt it would make you feel better to see everyone. Eleazar has been watching over him. He will stay next to him to make sure he doesn't try anything. They were really good friends when Eleazar was in the Volturi." After some time I finally sighed.

"Ok. But don't leave me please."

"Of course." Rosalie took my hand and led me into the lion's den.

As soon as I entered the living room, Kate sped over to me. "I've missed you." I giggle.

"I've missed you too." She pulled away from me and gave me a smile. We both wished we were meeting under a happier note.

"You remember Laurent." I turned to my left to see Laurent leaned up against the wall standing beside Irina.

"Hello Sophie. It's good to see you again." I narrowed my eyes at him.

"It's good to see that I'm alive isn't it. You must be glad that your former friend failed to murder me. Oh and remember what you said the last time you saw me? You bet I'm worth it buddy."

Laurent raised an eyebrow while everyone tried not to laugh. Rosalie was unable to hide her smile. Emmett didn't hold back on his laughter. I was oblivious to the other person in the room until he spoke.

"Well aren't you a firecracker." I turned my head to the very back of the room. There in the back stood a man. A very tall man. He had to be at least 6'3.

He was tall and lean but had some muscle on him. His skin was pale like my families. He had short blond hair that looked disheveled. It was as if he had been running his hands through it. His eyes were golden but I couldn't get the image of him having red eyes out of my head. He was beautiful but dangerous.

Eleazar was standing next to him while Jasper wasn't far from him either. He was keeping his eyes on Alex. He was making sure that Alex wouldn't try to attack me. I appreciated Jasper being protective over me at the moment.

"You must be Sophie. I'm Alexander, but I go by Alex. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Wish I could say the same. I'm not too fond of red coats." He rose a single eyebrow at me.

"Good to know. Thankfully, I no longer am one. So hopefully we can be friends." The way he said friends made a shiver go down my spine.

"We'll see." I didn't say anything else. I just stared at him. He kept his eyes solely on me. His stare was making me uncomfortable. I was keeping my warily eyes on Alex that I failed to notice Alice smiling at our interaction.

Kate took my hand. "Come on. I'll take you to your old room. You can stay there until you leave." I nodded my head. Yes get me away from this man.

"Great! I'll help you bring your suitcase up." I whirled around and stared at Alex. He can't be serious.

"No thank you. I can manage it myself red eyes." Alex narrowed his eyes at me but kept his smirk on his face.

"Very well. I enjoy talking to you later then." With that he turned around and walked outside. He then vanished into the woods.

Eleazar broke the silence by chuckling. "I think that went well." I looked at him silently before turning around and heading to my old room. I needed a hot shower and a long nap.No, absolutely not. This man can't be serious.

We have been in Denali for two days. It was nice and relaxing, sort of.

I managed to stay away from Laurent. I think he understood that I wasn't over what happened with James. The guy did try to kill me. I honestly appreciated him keeping his distance.

The other one however, couldn't take a hint. I tried my best to keep him away from me. I would make comments about his red eyes even though they weren't red anymore. Despite my insults, he just kept coming back to me.

I'm not as bothered by him formally being in the Volturi compared to when I arrived two days ago. I was actually proud that he was able to leave. That took a lot of courage for him to do that.

However, the part that I didn't like is his egotistical attitude. He would follow me everywhere. He would tell me how great of a fighter he is and that he wanted to get to know me better.

Everything hit the fan when he started telling me I would swoon and fall madly in love with him. No, this guy was mad if he thought I would ever like him like that.

Today was the day that we were heading to New York. Carlisle and Esme had the house ready for us. We were driving there so it would take a week or two to get there.

Edward left an hour ago. I gave him a hug before left. He said he would check in but I didn't think it would be anytime soon.

I was relaxed and ready for the trip when the maniac said something appalling.

He decided that he was coming with us to New York. He wanted a change of scenery and wanted to learn more about the vegetarian lifestyle from Carlisle.

I knew that his real reason to come was because of me.

"No. Absolutely not. There is no way that you are coming with us." He looked at me with his signature smirk.

"Why not? I think it will be nice to learn about all of you. It will be nice to officially meet Carlisle. Aro would talk about him often." That was the first time that he mentioned anything relating to his previous life.

"I commend you for leaving them but you aren't coming. No way in hell are you getting in the same car as me."

He looked at me. "Fine. I will ride in your other car then." We had two cars that we were taking. Alice and Jasper were in one car and I would be in the other car with Emmett and Rosalie.

I was so focused on trying to convince this idiot not to come that I didn't notice my family looking amused.

I grit my teeth. "Sorry, but you can't come. We all have to discuss this and fortunately Carlisle and Esme are not here."

"Actually.." My head turned to Alice. This was when I noticed everyone had been watching us. "I might have called Carlisle and Esme about the situation. They said it was ok. They would like to meet him." Carlisle and Esme. They always were welcoming to everyone. Especially for vampires who wanted to change their diet from humans to animals.

I looked at Jasper. "What are your thoughts Jasper?" Jasper looked at Alex and then at me.

"He will be in the car with me and Alice. I will be able to keep a close eye on him." I looked at Alice and already knew she was wanting Alex to come with us.

"I think he should come. It would be nice to have someone to fight with." Oh good lord Emmett. I look at Rosalie and she just kept her eyes on Alex.

"I would rather that he doesn't come with us. I don't like him being around Sophie. Though it seems like everyone else wants you to come so I guess you will. Just know, that if you try anything then I will kill you." Well, at least Rosalie is on my side on this.

"Noted. I will be respectful of your rules." He flashed me a smile and revealed an already packed bag. That good for nothing...

"Come on Sophie. We have a long drive ahead of us." I nodded my head at Rosalie and walked to my cousins. I hugged everyone goodbye, except for Laurent. I just gave him a small smile. I looked at everyone one last time before getting into the car with Rosalie and Emmett.

I was so excited to be out of that car. We were on the road for about a week and a half. My family made a couple of stops for me but we mainly stayed in the car.

It helped that they didn't sleep.

Once we arrived at the new house I immediately hopped out. I looked up to see the new house.

It was big. Not as big as our house in Forks, but it was still a pretty big house. There was glass around the house like the one back in Forks.

It basically looked similar to the house back in Forks, except smaller.

Carlisle and Esme smiled at me as I ran up to them. I hugged the both of them.

Esme giggled. "We missed you too honey."

"Yes, you yelling at the TV never gets old," chuckled Carlisle.

Carlisle looks behind me at something. More like at someone.

Carlisle puts on a friendly smile. "Hello, you must be Alex." My smile is soon replaced with a scowl.

"Yes, and you must be Carlisle. It's a pleasure to meet you." Alex shakes Carlisle's hand.

"I heard that you left the Volturi 50 years ago?" Alex's face becomes unreadable.

"Yes. I left to find something new. I've been feeding from animals ever since. Aro spoke of you often and I am really intrigued. I hope it's ok for me to stay a while."

Something about Alex's story didn't seem right. As soon as Carlisle mentioned the Volturi, Alex put his guard up.

I feel that something happened to him that made him leave. There is a reason why he doesn't hunt humans anymore.

Carlisle gives him a friendly smile. "Of course. Well, you are welcome here as long as you like. Since you are new to the diet, it might be best to have Jasper near you for right now." I didn't miss Carlisle's eyes flicker over to me.

He wanted Jasper near Alex to make sure he doesn't have a slip up. Fine by me. The further away from me the better.

Alex smiled at Carlisle kindly. "Of course. I look forward to spending time with all of you." Alex looked at me and gave me a smile.

Esme took my hand. "Come on Sophie, I will show you around the house."

I nod my head. I look at Alex one last time before following Esme.

A thought then entered my mind. Alex was once part of the Volturi. It seemed to me that he didn't enjoy talking about them.

This led me to assume that something bad happened. Aro didn't like to lose anyone with a special power. I'm starting to think that Alex fought his way out of the Volturi.

This thought caused me to wonder one thing.

If Alex did have a power, then what is it?October came and went. I turned 18 on Halloween. I was now older here than I was back in my other world.

I wonder what was going on over there.

Alice tried to throw me a party but I wasn't that into it. I think the reminder of what happened with Bella made me not enjoy my birthday as much. I tried to put on a happy face but it was difficult for me to do.

New York was fine. Jasper is a philosophy student at a college. I think his studies helped to distract him from his slip up with Bella.

I was being home schooled while we were here. I didn't mind though. I would rather stay at our new home compared to being at a school.

Edward has been MIA. I haven't seen him since we were in Alaska. He called to wish me a happy birthday but he hung up soon after.

Our family felt broken and empty without him with us.

I wanted more than anything to go back to Forks. I just wanted everything to go back to normal.

I was completely and utterly bored. Nothing exciting ever happened here.

The only thing that wasn't boring were my constant arguments with Alex. He agitated me to no end.

He would constantly follow me everywhere. Jasper and Emmett would keep an eye on him but he never tried to hurt me.

All Alex would do was watch me and make comments that annoyed me.

The other day he said that he gets bored when I am sleeping.

I even woke up in the middle of the night to find him in my room staring at me.

I screamed at him to get out of my room and stop being a stalker. He just laughed and walked away.

I knew he was doing it on purpose to get a reaction from me. It was working and he found it amusing.

We haven't heard from Edward. The last time I talked to him was on my birthday and even that phone call was short.

All he said was Happy Birthday and that he would call us sometime soon.

He hasn't called and I feel completely empty inside.

We were now in the month of December.

I still haven't heard from Edward. Why isn't he calling us?

I keep asking Carlisle and Esme if they have heard from him. The answer is always the same. No.

I just want to see him or hear from him. Just so I know that he is ok.

January

"Your being ridiculous."

"I'm being ridiculous?!"

"Yes, you are blowing this whole situation out of proportion."

I grit my teeth while I glared at the egotistical maniac.

"How am I blowing this out of proportion? My shoe is completely shredded apart!" It was true. I came downstairs to get something to eat only to find that one of my shoes was torn to pieces.

The toe of the shoe was completely gone.

"What? I saw the shoe and thought it would be fun to play with a bear." Alex looked at me innocently.

"You used my shoe as a chew toy for a bear. Just so you could antagonize him before eating it."

Alex smiled at me and shrugged his shoulder. "I've been bored lately. I just wanted to have some fun."

I narrow my eyes at him. "You owe me a new pair of sneakers." I threw the shoe at him before going back up to my room.

That man is constantly getting on my nerves.

I don't understand him at all. Why does he constantly bother me?

He follows me everywhere and will take my stuff sometimes. Usually he gives it back to me but I'm not getting that shoe back.

I go to my room and lie down in my bed. I am so drained from my constant arguments with Alex that it doesn't take me long to fall asleep.

I don't know how long I was asleep for when I woke up to a noise. It sounded like a dull thud.

I look at my clock to see that it is 3 o'clock in the morning. That's unusual. My family tends to be quiet when I'm sleeping so waking up to a thud is strange.

Even Alex made sure to keep quiet. He annoyed me but at least he was considerate of my sleeping schedule.

I climb out of my bed and head to my door. I quietly open my door and step out into the hallway.

I am almost at the stairs when I start to hear voices which caused me to stop in my tracks.

"Emmett be quiet. You will wake her up."

"Sorry."

"You need to talk to her. How long are you going to be avoiding her? She tries to keep everything together but we can tell that she's miserable. She misses you Edward."

Wait. Edward?

"I know. Now isn't a good time."

"Isn't a good time for who Edward? For her or for you?" I could tell that Rosalie was getting angry.

"Rose, I just need time."

"I know your upset about Bella, but why take it out on Sophie? She's family! She is constantly asking us if you have called. We have to keep lying to her. She thinks that you haven't called us since her birthday in October. And speaking of her birthday, how could you keep that phone call so short?! You should have seen her when you called. She was so happy and excited to hear from you only to realize that you only wanted to talk to her for barely a minute! She looked upset. She even cried herself to sleep that night. On her own birthday!"

"Rose..." During their conversation I crept closer to the stairs. I don't know how, but I was able to get to the bottom of the stairs before everyone noticed me.

Sure enough, standing in the living room was Edward.

Everyone was standing around him. Even Alex was in the room. He was standing by the back wall staring at Edward.

Everyone looked nervous when they saw me. They knew that I heard the entire conversation.

I should be happy to see him, but I wasn't.

"You look terrible," I say to Edward. He really did. His eyes were golden but he didn't look right. His eyes looked pained and empty. He just looked like an empty shell.

"Sophie," warned Carlisle.

"What? Everyone's thinking it. Apparently I'm the only one that will say it." I turn back towards Edward. "What did Rosalie mean that they have to keep lying to me?"

Edward didn't say anything. He wouldn't even look at me.

I look at Rose to get my answer. She sighed. "He calls us about once a month. We talked to him about a week ago." I felt like a bucket of ice cold water fell on me. Things slowly started to click into place.

"Why are they lying to me Edward? Do you not want to talk to me? Where you even going to stay so that I would get to see you?" Edward's silence answered my question.

"You weren't going to stay. If I didn't wake up then I wouldn't have known that you were even here. Everyone would have to keep lying to me. Why won't you look at me Edward?" Edward sighs and finally looks at me.

"You don't want to talk to me because of her? You don't want to talk to me or see me because we are so much alike. Isn't that right Edward?" I was now fully glaring at him. How could he do this to me?

"I remind you of her because you can't read my thoughts. Not hearing my thoughts reminds you that you can't read hers either. You don't want to see me so you aren't constantly reminded about what a stupid decision that you made." I was beyond mad. I was hurt and upset that he would neglect me. All because of his decision on leaving Bella. I couldn't stop myself from shouting at him.

"Am I even your sister anymore? I thought you were the greatest brother that I could ever have. You protected me and took care of me when I was sick. Where is that Edward? The one that I grew up with? Because the person standing in front of me isn't him. I don't even know you anymore!"

I was so oblivious to what was going on around me. I didn't notice my family or Alex looking alarmed.

It was only when Edward said my name when I stopped. He was staring at something. Something that was behind me. He looked shocked and alarmed.

Perplexed, I turned around to see what everyone was looking at.

Everyone was staring at Esme's vase. When I looked at it I stopped as well. They weren't looking at the designs that were on it.

No, they were looking at it because it was floating in the air. It had to be floating about a foot above the table.

It was only when I gasped and took a step back when the vase exploded.

My sudden movement caused the vase to explode. Which sent glass raining down in every direction around me.

Everything seemed to slow down.

Glass was flying in every direction around me.

I don't know how, but Alex got to me first. He was the farthest away from me but he managed to get to me the fastest.

He ran to me at once and used his body as a shield. He made sure that I didn't get hurt from the glass shards.

Alex let me go once all of the glass was on the floor. He stayed close to me in case anything else happened.

I stood up to see glass all around me. What just happened?

No one said anything. We didn't know what to make of it.

I looked up at Carlisle to see him staring at the floor. He then slowly looked at me.

"Carlisle?" We both knew that I was the cause of this.

He sighed. "It looks like when you became upset that something peculiar happened."

"I think a vase floating in the air is beyond peculiar Carlisle," I replied.

"It makes sense." I turn to Alice who looked deep in thought.

"Alice, what makes sense?"

She looked at me. "I'm not sure if you realized it at the time, but James had been recording what happened to you and Bella." That's right. He had been recording the whole thing. I forgot about that.

"What does a recording have to do with this?"

"Me and Edward both watched it. There was a part in the video that confused us." She turns to Edward and they both share a glance.

"What confused you?"

Edward turned and looked at me. "When he was..." Edward didn't know what to say next.

"Torturing me?" Alex growled when I said that but I just ignored him.

Edward paused for a second. "Yes. There was a part when you screamed."

Ok, I was beyond confused. "Edward, I was being thrown all over that room. He crushed my leg. Of course I was screaming. You need to be more specific."

"Sophie." I turned to Alice. "The part in question wasn't of him throwing you. There was a moment when he stood in front of you. You let out a scream of pain and fear. What caught us off guard was the fact that a mirror exploded from your scream."

I paused as I started to think. The memory of him standing in front of me entered my mind.

I soon find myself being thrown into another mirror and this time a shard went deeply into my back. Which caused me to let out a scream. I look up to see James making his way back over to me.

I just wanted all of this to stop. So I screamed again because of the pain and wanting this to end when a mirror close to James explodes. The glass rains down on him and he looks just as shocked as me. He turns towards me with narrowed eyes.

I screamed and a glass mirror exploded near us. Me and James had both stared at it. It didn't make sense at the time but now it did.

Something strange was happening to me.

"Why would this be happening now?"

"It seems like something emerges once you get really upset. Whether it's from you being angry or scared. It seems like your emotions bring it out. I'm guessing that it's been developing as you've gotten older."

I always assumed that I was just a shield. I am apparently more than just a shield. I don't even know if I am a shield at all. Maybe I am something else entirely.

"What's happening Carlisle?" I look at him desperately. I am scared because I don't understand what is wrong with me. Did the angel lady plan this all along?

"Sophie it's going to be ok. We will keep watch over you. In the meantime, you probably should keep your emotions in check." I nod. That was all I could do at the moment.

"Sophie." I turn my head over to Edward. He took a step forward and looked like he was going to give me a hug. I always needed his hugs when I was upset. I always accepted them because it made me feel better. This is the first time where I don't want one of his hugs. I didn't want him to even touch me.

I took a step back which did not go unnoticed by Alex.

He let out a growl and stood in front of me. "I think you've done enough. It's probably best if you left." Edward's eyes hardened.

"I just want to console my sister Alex."

"She doesn't want you to console her right now. Your the reason why she's upset. You honestly think she would talk to you after she just found out how you've been treating her. Just because you left one human behind doesn't give you the right to ignore Sophie. She's your sister but you aren't treating her like one." Edward let out a growl.

"Don't talk about her that way. She's not just some human." Edward wasn't talking about me. He was talking about Bella.

"Why shouldn't I? I haven't met her but from what I'm hearing it was a smart idea to leave. Rosalie is right in her being a danger to all of us." Great, there is somebody else who is against Bella.

Edward let out a growl. Before I knew it, Alex was flying towards the back door. He crashed through the glass door which caused him to disappear down the steps outside.

I was stunned that this would be happening. "Sophie." I feel a hand on my arm. I turn to see that the hand belonged to Edward. I try to pull my arm out of his grasp. "Edward."

"Sophie, I'm sorry. Please just let me talk to you." He gives me pleading eyes. I almost want to say yes.

"Edward, I..." I am interrupted by an earth shattering growl.

Alex just came back into the house, and he looks pissed.

"Edward, take your hand off of Sophie now." At that moment something strange happened.

Everybody instantly looked alert. Edward took his hand off my arm but I could see he was struggling. Rosalie stood in front of me and kept her eyes solely on Alex.

"Alex," warned Carlisle. I noticed that Jasper was inching closer to Alex, in case he did anything.

I was beyond confused. "What's going on?" It seemed that my voice snapped Alex out of his thoughts. His eyes landed on me and they widened in realization about what happened. He looked worried.

No one said a word. Everyone was keeping an eye on Edward and Alex. "What just happened?"

After a moment of silence, Emmett was the one to finally speak. "You might have been wondering what Alex's power is since he used to be part of the Volturi. He just used his gift on Edward." Emmett made the word gift sound like a curse.

"Sophie," I turn to look at Carlisle. He seemed to be the only one that was calm in this situation. "Alex has the power of persuasion."

I furrowed my eyebrows. "Persuasion? What does that mean?"

"It means, that I can tell you what to do." Alex looked conflicted. "I told Edward to let you go and he did. Whatever I tell you to do, you have to do it. That's my curse."
