Wind and dust swirled around us like a mini tornado, and some particles of dust entered my eyes clouding my vision, I saw nothing in front of me, for that moment the only useful sensory organs I had were my ears and skin and maybe also Kin yelling for his life behind me. I placed my hands in my eyes to get the dust in them, I had lost track of my environment, Kin was yelling something to Me but his voice was far, I got what he was trying to tell me when I hit my head in a tree, l lost my footing due to the impact and fell into a stip slope, I heard Kin yelling after me, almost screaming his lungs out, he was making a mistake, doing something he told us not too. Yelling or making loud sounds when they are around.
For a moment I blacked out, probably for about three minutes or so. I knew why I did, I was dehydrated, tired, and hungry, and my body couldn't take it anymore. My head felt sore, I placed my hands on it and it was bleeding a lot. There were voices above me one was very familiar the others I wish weren't but it was
"Stay where you are do not move " Kin yelled with fear, and hope in his voice that I heard him.
The wind got fiercer and fiercer as if it was enraged at something or someone. the sounds above me became fainter and fainter. I tried standing up but it was in pure vain, my head hurt a lot more than my growling stomach, is this how I die not even saying goodbye to Diana, Kin, Heyt, and the rest? I thought to myself, I tried crying but no single teardrop rolled down my eyes. a sudden and Immense pain was felt almost all over my body.
"Is this how death feels?" I managed to ask myself. I began to recall how we got separated from the rest and why was it my fault
We finally got a safe place to stay, far away from the dangers of the city. A more peaceful place where we can bond with nature and forget what was going on and what we were going through. The woods are a place free from distress and panic, A place where we can easily access food if we hunt and get water if we find a stream or a river. Yes, that's what we believed, I didn't even have a single doubt in it, I stood by it strongly believing in a potential beauty, bliss, and hopeful peace. But yes it was a vivid illusion that stood right in front of us trying to tell us that the difference isn't far off from where we came only that we could try to become one with nature.
All thirteen of us ran from the city with a desire for safety and peace from what haunted us, we lost two brothers on our way to the woods, we lost them to ravageous creatures that hide behind human flesh. They show no inch of pity in their diseased brains, all they do is Infest the lands and multiply until there is not a single one of us In existence.
The night was welcoming when we came to the woods, still mourning Dal and Cel. Our hopes were high thinking Dal was still alive but Kin confirmed his death. Days passed by we gradually but unwillingly forgot about our deceased comrades. Bliss and tranquility filled our souls. The taste of freedom was appealing to us. Now down to eleven, we decided to build a cabin that would contain us all. We decided to divide ourselves into three groups, Group A was kept in charge of cutting down trees which contained five people, Group B was in charge of hunting and getting any useful supplies found in the woods which contained four people, which I and Kin was amongst, and group C wasn't a group it was for two injured people, they merely did nothing but eat and sleep. I pitied them how would they run if we needed to flee? They barely scaled through when we were in the city one of them was carried till we safely arrived in the woods.
" It's morning people let's get ready to work" I recalled Heyt said that some days to my supposed demise.
"Can we just get ten more minutes of sleep?" Myloe a guy in my group said, mumbling from where he was.
" Yo, Dane "Heyt, my best friend the only one I trust wholeheartedly called for me. I was sharpening my pocket knife on a stone, not too far from where he was.
" Yeah bro " I answered, turning towards him, He threw a large stick to me, and I caught it. The stick had a hole in it. I placed the knife I had with me on the hole of the stick and used a pair of shoe laces in my supply bag to tie the knife around the stick to hold it firmly.
"Nice catch. You guys did a good job yesterday by getting a fowl for us to eat" Heyt said while checking his bag for something, he pulled his water bottle out. "We've run low on water supply, you guys will be heading out today to get water and if you get a good game ... It will be highly appreciated. And yes Dane if you get herbs also"
" Herbs? " I asked looking surprised.
"You guys have Myloe. He'll guide you " Heyt said.
When noon arrived me and my group departed to find food and the most essential. water. we had been rationing the water we managed to get from the city. After about four miles south of our camp. Myloe heard a stream. We found a source of water and where there's water there's life. A deer was spotted by Kin drinking from the streams.
" Oh, oh. We've hit the jackpot " Kin whispered and smiled mischievously happy. " I wonder how it tastes?"
" That's all you know, " our fourth member Diana said giving Kin an eye that I don't still get
"Let's get this bad boy and get going, I don't want to stay here any longer. It's getting late" Myloe said straightening his glasses.
Kin impatient as ever jumped from the enclosed area we were, heading towards the deer. The frightened deer was afraid of something else.
We forgot this rule, where there is life those Zombies are bound to be there... To wreak havoc and pain.
