The next day, hunger woke me up. I kept on tossing and turning throughout the night. I took a quick shower and called for a taxi. I went foodstuff shopping, but first, I had to grab breakfast at a restaurant around the city.
Sitting at a window, I remembered how I met James Watson. Shaking my head, I looked outside the window. I felt lonely and empty. I could see couples passing by the huge clear glass window laughing, smiling, and looking lovely at each other. The scene made me miss him even more.
I know it was an impromptu decision, but I could not handle the pressure. I thought James would’ve fought harder for the relationship, but that was just my expectation. I expected him to change and be someone I dreamt of. Someone that fit my prince charming, but it was not the case
I knew he would not change no matter what I did. It was for the best to let it go. His family didn’t want me. They didn’t even get the chance to see me, and they already began looking for someone of the same status and background.
I could see a man quarreling with his woman outside. I couldn’t hear what they were talking about, but I was sure it was something huge. The woman swung her hands, and the man was pushed a few steps and stumbled down. The woman did not even look back.
The man felt embarrassed, but he stood up and wiped the dust from his pants. He tried to lift his hand to stop the woman, but she entered a waiting car a few meters from them. I felt sorry for the man, and the story interested me a lot. I don’t know. Maybe it was because the man someone reminded me of my situation.
I took a sip from my coffee and continued thinking of my situation. I had registered a business and got all the necessary documents, but I was too lazy to start. Sitting there, I was thinking about what my day would be like.
I got a call from my dad at that moment
“Good morning, princess.”
“Good morning, dad.”
“How is West City? I know you don’t want to work with me in the company, but I really miss you. You don’t have to suffer as if you don’t have your people. Come home and enjoy being taken care of.” He said to me, trying to talk me into going home
“Come on, dad. We have already talked about this. I don’t want to stay home. I want to make my own money. I don’t want to depend on everyone to take care of me. I want to make a name for myself.” I said, thinking back to the woman who slept with my boyfriend in a hotel room.
I checked on her profile sometimes back. She was from a political family and a pampered princess.
Her name was Loli Roland.
She was the last born of the current Infrastructure Minister in the country. Their family with the Watsons was very close. They were also friends from childhood. I didn’t want to be in between the two families. My life and that of my family would’ve been in danger.
“I know what you are talking about. Forget about that stupid boy. He does not deserve you. It’s his loss,” my dad said, scoffing.
“I know, dad. I want to get over him. Being idle does not help. Maybe I will meet someone in West City that would love me, and I would love him back as well.” I said to him, imagining my situation and if I would be able to handle another relationship
By the time I hung up the phone with my dad, I saw the guy that was pushed down by his girlfriend seated right on the next table. I felt compelled to talk to him. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I took the next step and stood from my chair, and walked to him.
I stood in front of him. He didn’t even seem to have noticed me. He looked tired and despondent.
“Good morning”
“Good morning,” He answered, but after hesitating for a while, looking puzzled.
“Can I have a seat next to you?” I asked, and he looked at me in bewilderment. He didn’t know me, and here I was talking to him about sitting down.
“I am sorry, but I don’t know you. Besides, I want to be alone at the moment.” When I heard his words, I knew he was the man I was looking for. He was not driven by skirts, but he could give his honest opinion. He didn’t want me there, and he made it clear. He didn’t need to pretend.
“I know, but I won’t take much of your time,” I said, and he hesitated for a moment before nodding his head.
“I saw you arguing with the lady outside a few moments ago. I don’t want to be nosy, but is everything okay?” That’s me being a completely nosy person. Why did I even ask him about his relationship and what happened? I had conflicts within myself the next moment.
“Why would you want to know? So that you can laugh at me like all the people that saw us?” he sounded agitated
“No, no no… I didn’t mean it that way.” ‘How should I put it? I thought to myself as I tried to find words to explain to him.
“You see. I have been in a relationship for years, and I know how it feels when things go south. I just wanted to talk to you probably; it would lessen the burden in your heart.” I said to him as I tried to excuse myself in the next moment’” But if you feel I have infringed your privacy, then I don’t mind going.” I said and stood to go after apologizing.
I know I had infringed somewhere I should not. I didn’t look at his way and walked out of the restaurant, paying the bill. I had a lot to do, and poking into other people’s relationships was not my thing. I didn’t even know why I asked in the first place.
Taking a few steps from the restaurant, the man called me from behind
“Excuse me,” he said, taking large strides to reach me
“I am sorry for being an asshole in there.” He said, looking embarrassed
“It’s okay. I meddled in something that did not involve me. I get it”
“No. You were just concerned,” he said back, one of his hands in his pocket while the other shook in disagreement.
“It’s okay. I am new here, and I am looking for a good place one can set up a business.” I said to him in hopes that he would help me. It worked
“Well, you have got the right person.’ He said, indicating to himself.
