Accused of murder

I felt hurt

I felt someone tap me from behind. I quickly opened my eyes, wiping the tears in my eyes. I composed myself before turning to see who was tapping me.

I turned and was shocked.

I turned again at the car parked at the entrance. There he was—a man I had never seen before. I turned to face the man behind me; my eyes popped open in surprise.

"Are you hoping to see me getting engaged?" James asked

"I don't care. You can marry her today for all I care." I composed myself and said to him. He chuckled for a sec and pulled me into his arms. He hugged me tightly

"Honey. I have truly missed you. There is no way I am going to marry someone else. I promised you that." He said, giving me a peck on my forehead. I felt warmth in my heart

"Then why did you cheat on me back then?" I asked him in tears

"I never did. They set me up." He explained

"What?" I asked

"Yes. I tried to explain to you, but you were too upset to give me a chance. I know I did hurt you, and my family did behind my back too," he said to be.

He lifted my chin and gave me one passionate kiss. Closing my eyes returned the kiss with the same passion. I had missed him.

"I will tell you about everything, but there is a great show ahead. You don't want to miss it. Prepare yourself. But you will have to face some injustice from them in a few minutes.

"What is going on?" I asked

"Don't worry. I will tell you everything later. Or let's say you will see everything yourself. Just play along with me," He said, going back from where he came from. I was so elated that I didn't notice someone watching us from behind the wall.

I walked to my room, rewashed my face, and applied a new makeup set. This time my makeup was meticulously done to fit the occasion. Since he said, there was going to be a show. Then it was going to be great. I didn't want to miss any of it.

It didn't take long for someone to knock on the door

"Who is it?" I asked. I didn't know what was going to happen exactly, so everything was going to be a surprise

"Sorry, Miss Jane. But there is a problem door there." A young woman whom I recognized as one of the waitresses said

"What's wrong?"

"I don't know, but the Watson family are calling you over. There is something wrong with the drink one of the guests had."

"I am coming. Let's go."

Downstairs, a group of people had surrounded a guest who seemed to be in trouble lying on the ground. How could they let a person with a problem lie down on the floor instead of taking him to the hospital?

'What are they up to' I asked myself, looking at the situation

"You. You poisoned my husband." Mrs. Watson said, trying to reach Jane but was held in place

"You want to kill my husband. Guards arrest her," she ordered the guard that was already waiting there. Everything seemed too perfect to be true

"Ma'am. What's going on?" I asked, trying to understand.

"Just because we could not allow you to marry into our family, you decided to kill my husband. What kind of a woman are you. I am so glad my son is getting engaged to someone else today." She shouted, trying to get the sympathy and attention of everyone. It was working. The people started to mumble among themselves.

"I don't know what you are talking about. How could I poison your husband? Besides, your son and I have been no longer together since two and a half years ago." I tried to explain, but she seemed prepared.

I saw how he broke up with you and how you swore to get revenge behind his back. You are the one in charge of the event tonight. You are the only suspect.

"What's going on here?' a cold sound came from behind me, and I was scared James would believe his mother. Everything was pointing towards me.

"I..." I tried to open my mouth to speak, but I could not explain myself after the cold stare James gave me

Seeing his look at me, his mother smiled slightly before crying further.

"What have you done to my husband? I will arrest you. Call the police." She shouted and indeed someone called the police

My only worry was for James to believe all those lies

"James, I swear I didn't do it," I tried to say, but he kept quiet and cold

"Get a doctor here first," he shouted, looking at the whole situation. Something seemed fishy. Loli and her parents were still on their way. What's all that drama for? He asked himself and looked at his scared woman. She was frightened, though, trying to compose herself. It was hard for her.

He pulled her to his side and asked one of the men to help carry his father to the lounge and wait for a doctor.

He did not forget to ask me to follow him.

"Where are you going? Do you want to finish what you started? I know I wronged you but please. You didn't have to do this." She said, crying miserably. Even I was swayed, thinking probably I did it. Sometimes people may say you did something consistently until your mind starts thinking probably it's true.

I saw the Roland family come from the window. A whole minister with his bodyguards just like the Watson family. They looked surprised to see the commotion. He furrowed his eyebrows.

"What's going on here?" he asked, and everybody looked at me except James Watson.

"She poisoned my husband. She is out to destroy my family because I refused to accept her as a daughter-in-law." She wept bitterly, gaining the sympathy of everyone.

Even I felt sorry for her. I didn't care about everyone's accusation except for James. I didn't want him to think I was involved. I was waiting for the engagement show he promised me, not this involving his father. What went wrong?

The moment minister Roland heard I was involved. He threw me a displeased look and called the police.

"Commissioner. We have a problem at the engagement." He started looking at Jane while speaking on the phone. If looks could kill, Jane would've died over and over.

"One of the guests poisoned Mr. Watson. He is in critical condition. Yes, we are waiting" he finished the call and threw daggers at me.

Soon a doctor came and looked at Mr. Watson.

"Did he take a coconut made drink?" she asked, and I looked at her

"No, he didn't. I was sure to instruct the event organizer that he is allergic to coconut drinks." Mrs. Watson said, thinking of something.

"I am afraid the patient needs to be transferred to a hospital immediately. He is having a serious allergic reaction," she finished saying and helped him to the ambulance that had just arrived.

"Let's got," James said, taking me to my hotel room

"Where are we going? Aren't we going to the hospital?" I asked, looking at his gloomy face
