Chapter 2- Chaos

-Sheriff, what happened? Is everything OK?- Dami inquired the young sheriff, a man called Kim Seokjin. He ruffled his hair and let out a great sigh.

-I'm sorry, but whatever happened, I can't reveal to two teenagers that by the looks of it snuck out of school and want something else to entertain themselves. Go back to your houses children-he finished.

However, it was a matter of time for the truth about that night to come out. Another woman had been killed in the house that night. Their math teacher, Ms. Kim Taeyeon, had been choked to death in her house last night. The police had declared it a crime of passion, and had taken her husband prisoner. He however, had an alibi and no motive to do such thing, so they had to let him go. No one knew certainly who had done such thing, but most people suspected more and more that Wendy's death hadn't been an accident as her family claimed. The Son's lived in a big mansion up in the northern side of the town. The Son Estate was its official name. Most people only called it House of Horrors. It had everything that would appeal to be a haunted house. Dark, rusty metal gates that led down a stone pathway until the big, dark oak front doors of the Estate. Towering windows with intricate patterns in the windowsill. It even had its own hunting terrain that led directly into a deep lake. If you haven't figured it out by now, these woods were Silent Rim Woods, the same woods in which Wendy had been found. As such, the Son's were prime suspects in the investigation. Of course they had their own ways of warding the police off their business. It usually worked. But not with the new sheriff. Kim Seokjin, or Jin as he liked to be called off duty, was as clean as they come. H was invited to lunch in the state by Mrs. Son. He didn't expect to stay long, so he put on his sheriff uniform, secured his gun to his side, and went off to the Estate. He was greeted by the porter and went down the stone path until he saw what appeared to be a table set for two, covered in a red and white umbrella. There was Mrs. Son to receive him. She was a tall woman in her mid-50s, with striking silver hair with streaks of blonde mixed in. She was known to be very persuasive. She had no doubt that she would get the young sheriff to do what she wanted to.

-Mrs. Son, it's a pleasure to meet you in person-Jin said as he stretched out his hand for her to shake. She shook his hand and gestured him to sit down. Blueberries in small bowls, two waffles with strawberries and white sugar sprinkled on them, and a generous glass of ice-cold orange juice were what stood in front of him as he sat down in the chair offered to him-. I reckon that you invited me over to talk about your daughter's case. Isn't that right?

-Well, it is true, but I wanted to talk about something else concerning you-Mrs. Son started-, about how you've rejected my family's generous... gifts, that have been offered in order to keep things in order- she said in a menacing tone-.

-Well ma'am, I don't mean to offend, but if you really expect me to accept your bribes in order to close Seung Hwan's case as quickly as possible, even if I don't have enough evidence to back it up, you really did your worst when doing your homework about me- Jin finished as he pushed himself back and stood up, leaving headed to his car. He didn't as much as glance back. He felt insulted at the fact that she was so fixed on getting him out of this case. He circled around this thought until he arrived to his office in the police station.

Before all this happened, Chan walked Dami home, which to his surprise, was across Chan's. He had been living there for years now. And he never knew that she lived there, across the street. Once he saw her go inside the house, he went straight up to his room. He had too much thoughts running in his head. Wendy had been killed and now their teacher had been killed too. Who was next? Were they safe? He wasn't sure about anything. Feeling overwhelmed, he took the small box of sleeping pills out of his bedside cabinet's drawer. He gulped the appropriate dose in one gulp and rested his head on his pillow.

His phone woke him up next morning to remind him that he had to go to school. He put on black jeans torn in the knees, a red oversized shirt, and a black leather jacket. He grabbed his bag and made his way to the door. Just as he was going to open the door, someone knocked. He opened the door and saw her holding a cardboard tray with two coffee cups and a paper bag on the other which smelled a lot like sandwiches.

-Walk me to school?- she said, winking slightly to indicate him that it wasn't at all what he was thinking.

-Sure-he answered and went out, closing the door behind him and walking onto the street-. What is this about?

-About what happened yesterday, dumbass- she said offering him one of the coffee cups and throwing the tray in a trash can once she had grabbed her own. Weirdly, once he took a sip of the black liquid, he found out that, this was exactly how he liked his coffee. Black, a quarter tbsp of sugar, no cream and a pinch of cinnamon. This was getting very weird.

-Hey umm, how did you know I like coffee like this?-Chan said taking another sip.

-You drink one every morning- "True" thought Chan-. Besides, you seem like a cinnamon kinda guy.

They walked silently to school. When they got to the classroom, it was pretty much the same as always, San was bragging, Jennie was gossiping and Wonwoo... wait, Wonwoo wasn't there. It was weird, he almost never skipped school. Anyways, Chan deemed it not important and sat down. However, once the teacher arrived to the classroom, he told the, to grab their stuff and get out of the classroom for he would be reassigning places. Chan hoped for the best and waited. When he was called, he sat down and rested his head on both his hands, waiting for the class to start. He saw Dami enter and sit down two rows to his right. He waved slightly at her and she nodded her head. Just as he was opening his mouth to say something, Jennie appeared and sat just between him and Dami. She flashed a nasty grin across her face and turned her head to Chan.

-Hey there-she said in a flirty tone.

-Mm- Chan responded.

-So, what was all about your wild escape with that girl Dami yesterday?- she continued in the same tone, leaning close to Chan.

-None of your business.

-Look, I'm not saying you don't look cute together, but it's obvious that you deserve better than a girl like that. I mean, nobody likes her, she's a loner. Would you really like to spend all your time alone with her? I mean, yuck.

-And what does it matter to you anyway, huh, because as far as I'm concerned, you only like to meddle in other people's businesses to ignore the draft that nobody likes you either. The only reason anyone puts up with you is because they want part of the money you bathe in.

-Say it again idiot-said San from behind him, grabbing the back of his jacket.

-Look San, I have no intention of fighting you, unless you give me reasons- Chan said, turning to face the black-haired punk. However, San had already gotten to his feet and the moment in which Chan looked up, San had already punched him.

Chaos broke out in the classroom. San and Chan were fighting roughly, throwing punches as two boxers in a ring. Jennie had gotten up to keep insulting him. However, Dami pulled her down and kicked her in the shins. Jennie got angry and pulled Dami's hair. After the teacher managed to separate the four, they all got detention and were asked to stay after school.

Chan headed to the detention classroom after his last class finished, closely followed by Dami to ensure he didn't get into any more trouble. They entered the classroom and Chan sat at the very back of the classroom, Dami by his side. San and Jennie sat at the other side. They were assigned a 1000 word essay about why they were there to be handed out before 8 o'clock. Chan finished in about 30 minutes and left the paper on the teacher's desk, however he was forced to stay until 8 o'clock either way. Everyone was finished by 6:30 and the teacher had gone out the classroom, taking a nap in his office. Dami was on the edge of her seat, ready if any of the both sitting at the edge of the classroom got any funny ideas. Chan was lost in his own thought when Dami gently nudged him and whispered.

-She's coming.

And indeed she was. Walking across the classroom was Jennie. She grabbed a chair and dragged it with her. Once she was facing them, she set down the chair with the back facing Chan and Dami. She sat down and stared them both for a few seconds until she finally spoke.

-So-she started, not looking any of them in the eye-, I guess we didn't start on the right foot. I'm sorry about what I said to you Chan and everything I did. I want us to start fresh, without all the rich girl crap. If you're willing to give me another chance of course- she finished, looking down to to the floor.

-Look, I know we really haven't talked much ever since I moved here, and that our previous interactions haven't been exactly friendly. But if you really are willing to try again, then so am I- responded Chan with a kind smile flashing in his face, despite Dami's silent warnings about not to do so. Dami had known Jennie ever since she started going to school, and in her mindset, there was anything but forgiveness or regret inside Jennie's mind. She respected Chan's decision, but didn't support it at all.

Jennie shook hands with Dami, the first one mentioned with a truly sorrowful face, the second with a neutral and unexpressive one. Silence fell upon the classroom until, about at 8, one of Choi San's friends, BamBam stormed into the classroom, drenched in sweat. His face transmitted a look of utter horror. He panted for a few seconds until he managed to babble out a few words between pained breaths.

-Someone... Teacher... Body... Dead... Help... Please...

San immediately got off his chair and tried to get his friend to calm down and explain himself, Jennie started pacing around the classroom, breathing fastly. Chan started looking for a way out, but all the windows were locked. Dami was the only one who remained with a cool head and thought thoroughly about the recent events. She got up and without saying a word, grabbed a chair, closed the door, locked it, and secured the door with the chair. Jennie panicked even more as she saw her doing this, so much that she had to sit down in one of the chairs to relax her breathing in order not to faint.

-What in hell do you think you're doing?!- asked San in a rude tone, standing up and reaching for the door.

-Don't be an idiot, he was clearly running from something. If you didn't hear his words, the teacher's dead, and if you want to be like that too, I invite you to walk out that door because that's what awaits outside this classroom. So I invite you, please, but don't include the rest of us- Dami responded, not moving an inch.

Suddenly, the door was knocked, Chan asked who it was, but no one answered. Suddenly, the slow knocking became a beat of fast and repeated banging on the door, there was someone who was trying to get in. Chan readied himself for whatever could be behind that door. As suddenly as it started, the banging stopped. Moments later, police sirens were heard outside. A few minutes after that, they were being take out of the school building by Sheriff Jin. He told them that their teacher had been murdered while they were in the detention classroom. BamBam was the only one who saw the killer. According to him, it was a tall young man, with silver hair and radiating green eyes.
