You Can’t Buy My Love

Mariela "Ella" Alvamiza, an eighteen-year-old first-year college student. She was saddened when she found her things scattered in the hallway of their building. She couldn't pay her friend the share of the rent since she sent the money to her mother. Archer Lopez came from wealthy family. He has no choice but to leave his penthouse when his dad banned him from entering unless he will come home to their mansion. He needed a roommate to share the cost of his newfound place since his beloved parents had frozen all his accounts. Mariela needed a place to stay, and she felt so happy when she found a pamphlet made from scratch paper that someone needed a roommate, and to her dismay, he was a guy, and no other than the renowned handsome and hot playboy of Nagazville University. Excerpt: "Here is the deal. I will allow you to pay 1/4 of the rent, but you have to do the laundry, the cleaning; and cook our meal; if not, you need to pay half of the rent, and one more thing, you can't fall in love with me." Archer said with confidence. "Excuse me, who said I am sharing a room with you and become your maid? How much more to fall in love with someone conceited and self-centered like you? Do you think everyone will like you because of your pretty face? I am sorry to disappoint you, but not everyone at the University is stupid." Mariela snapped at him, and he was shocked because it was the first time a girl showed disinterest in him. Mariela was broke, and she ended up living with Archer, and she found herself entangled with the most popular guy in her university. And when Ella found out that Archer was more than just a pretty face, and she gets to know the real him, she couldn’t stop herself from falling in love with him. One day Archer was compelled to ask Mariela to come home with him to their estate to pretend as his girlfriend as a protest to his parents for manipulating his life. Archer's parents asked him to dump Ella right away after he introduced her to them because they are against their relationship since she doesn’t belong to their world, and that is the time he realized his feelings for her started to get real. He couldn't stop himself from loving his beautiful roommate even if he knew she was way out of his league. Does Archer’s love for Mariela strong enough to stand up against his parents even if it means losing everything he has, including his inheritance? Can Mariela choose love over money the moment she realizes her younger sister's life is at stake and she is the only one who can save her? Thinking About Her

Archer's POV

"Hey, you need to calm down, Archer; she is studying at Nagazville University; all you have to do is use your popularity." My cousin said after I told him that Ella had left me over the phone.

"What does it even mean?" I asked as I felt more confused about what to do.

"Come on, how can you forget you have so many followers in your social media accounts?" He asked, and for the first time, I felt glad that my younger sister had created my account on Facebook and Instagram, even on Twitter.

I seldom opened them since my sister managed my accounts; she loves posting quotes that make girls crazier because of my photos. For how many times I complained to my sister to stop posting my pictures, but she enjoyed teasing those girls.

"Wow, you are a genius, Kent; thank you so much," I said, and I said goodbye to my cousin, and I browsed my phone, and I sighed when I realized I had forgotten the passwords of any of my social media accounts since I didn't keep my accounts open, I logged them out, and I walked to the balcony as I dialed my sister's number.

"Good morning, my handsome brother!" She answered her phone right away, and I could tell my sister was smiling.

"Good morning, Andrea," I greeted her.

"Thank goodness, at last, you called me; I thought you don't miss me anymore." She said, and I felt guilty I didn't call her often because I avoided my parents.

"You know I always miss you, Andrea. I am sorry, my dear sister, your handsome brother, got so busy lately," I replied.

"Busy? Or you were pretending to be busy because you are so afraid if mom and dad would know you call me, and you didn't communicate with them. How could you not attend dad's fiftieth birthday, Archer? You were his firstborn. You could have at least greeted him via video call." My sister declared, and I released a heavy sigh.

"I texted him, Andrea," I replied.

"It would never be enough, big brother. I know you hated them for controlling your life, but give up your dream of becoming a pilot or a doctor. You are destined to be dad's successor, and you should learn to accept that by now." My sister said, and here we are again, and I know she wanted me to follow dad's footsteps too.

We are always like this every time we talk. But I adore my younger sister so much, and we are pretty close. I hated growing up inside our house because my dad kept reminding me that I would be running his conglomerate in the future. And all I ever wanted was to enjoy my High School life, but instead, he brought me with him during company social events on weekends, even if I had a prior engagement with my friends.

Yeah, that was my life when I was living with my dad. I only wanted to have a father and son bonding with him, but he treated me as one of his subordinates. It sucks, actually, but my classmates and those people who knew me as my father's son thought I was the luckiest son in the whole world. All I ever wanted was to hear him ask me how I was doing in school.

My consolation had Andrea as my sister. She always makes me smile even if I feel like running away from our estate. Andrea became my rock, and I love her. And Kent was also there for me as my best friend and cousin. We were inseparable, and I felt glad my mom and his mother were twins. If not, I am sure my dad will not allow me to come with him since he doesn't want me to associate myself with people not in our circle.

My mom was the worst; I know my parents loved me, but being forced to be with someone I didn't love was too much. Ever since I was a kid, she always told me I would be Claudia's prince charming. And she instilled in my mind I was going to marry Claudia when I grew up, and I ended up courting her during our senior year to make my mom happy, but it didn't work out.

Claudia is beautiful and the most suitable candidate to become my wife in the future, and I know she was so crazy about me too, but the problem is, when we were dating, I realized I only wanted us to be friends. And my mom got so pissed with me when I ended things with Claudia, but she never stopped doing something that would connect me to her.

I am just glad we didn't go to the same University, or it would be so hard for me to enjoy my college days, and that is why I am having the best time of my life until recently when my beloved parents froze all my accounts.

"Are you still there, Archer?" My sister asked, and I could feel the worries in her voice.

"Of course, I am so lost for words, Andrea, I know it was my bad, but do you think it is enough reason for them to cut off my allowance?" I asked my sister.

"I have money, Archer, I can give you if you only call me." She responded, and I sighed heavily.

"That is not the issue, Andrea," I muttered.

"I know, but you needed money, and I know because Kent texted me." She responded, and I know my cousin will betray me.

"Don't worry about me, okay? I am still good, and I am doing great even if they suspended all my cards, and I think it is about time to show them I can stand on my own." I said.

"My dear brother, it is not a question, and I am sure you can be on your own, but you have to come home because I miss you, and even if they cancel your cards to give you a lesson for a lifetime, mom and dad are waiting for you to come home because they can't deny it they missed you too." My sister declared.

"I know, don't worry, I will come home one of these days," I responded.

"Of course, I will hate you forever if you will not attend my debut, Archer. I am your only sister," She said, and I had to close my eyes as I realized I couldn't disappoint Andrea, and I know how important her eighteenth birthday to her; she has been bugging me about it since she was fifteen, and my sister told me she wanted me to be her last dance during the cotillion.

"Don't do this to me, Andrea," I softly said.

"Archer, I seldom beg you, and I am asking you to come home on my eighteenth birthday; I don't want to receive any gifts on that day; only your presence, and that is all I need." She said, and I took a deep sigh as I combed my messy hair with my fingers.

"Don't worry, I will be there on your special day, Andrea," I responded, and I could hear the loud shrieking of my sister on the other line that I needed to put the phone away from my ear. And I couldn't stop myself from smiling, and I couldn't deny I felt so happy as I heard my sister's excitement.

"I can't wait to see you and thank you, Archer. I love you." She said.

"I love you more," I replied with a wide grin on my face.

"By the way, why are you calling me early in the morning? Is there something you want from me?" My sister asked, and I cleared my throat before I spoke.

"Can you tell me again the user name and password of my social media accounts?" I asked, and there was a long pause on the other line.

"Of course, I am stunned that you asked me about your social media accounts, and I know you don't have the time, and you don't want to open them, and I am sure you have already forgotten the password and username. I enjoyed reading the confessions of your die-hard fans, and I couldn't believe a time comes you will be interested in opening your account." She declared.

"All the username and password are the same for your FB, Instagram, and Twitter, and what made you change your mind?" She asked.

"I just realized, maybe it is about time, I will manage my social media accounts, and I wanted to know if what you are talking about was true," I said, and I lied because Kent always showed me every time my sister put something on my wall.

"Oh? No! I could tell there is someone you like, Archer." She responded, and I chuckled as I shook my head as if my sister could see me.

"No, I don't; now that I am on my own, I think I need to open even one of those accounts because I could tell it would be helpful with my current situation; I know I can use it if I wanted to find someone who wanted to be my roommate," I said, and I could hear my sister released a deep sigh.

"Don't post something like that in your social media account, Archer. I am sure those girls would go crazy over your post." She replied.

"I know you are hiding something from me, but I am happy that at last, you are going to use the social media accounts I created for you; believe me, you will like it, Archer. It is not that bad." My sister added.

"I know, and thank you so much for creating my accounts and for managing them for years; I wanted to create a new one, but I don't want to undergo the hassle," I answered.

"You are welcome; you don't need to worry because I didn't reply to any of them, I only read their messages, and I couldn't believe you are that popular in your University; it seemed like you are in high school again." My sister said, and I smiled as I realized what she meant. I was also one of the famous students during my high school days.

"You can update the contact number and the email address of your accounts by using your personal email add and phone number." She added.

I said goodbye to my sister, and I smiled when I received her message with my username and password. I felt so excited to do what Kent had advised me, and the moment I logged in on my Instagram account, I realized my sister was right; many girls I didn't know sent me messages, and I ignored those messages since I was not interested in having a fling, or a girlfriend. And for the first time, I posted on my social media account to look for the only girl I couldn't stop thinking about, even if I had just met her, no other than Mariela Alvamiza.
