William's P.O.V.
"Hey, Willy!"
I cringed at the nickname and groaned inwardly at the person who said that.
I was currently at my locker, doing locker stuff when Diana my friend came up to me.
I don't really know if I could call her my friend or not.
"H― Hey, Diana!" I said, a half-hearted smile plastered on my face.
"Had a good weekend?" She asked me.
I looked at her properly for the first time since she came up to me.
She looked good. She wasn't what you'd call "sexy" or "hot" but she was definitely attractive.
But it didn't make much difference to me.
"Uh yeah, pretty chilled." I said, hoping she wouldn't ask me more in detail.
She didn't, though she looked at me expectantly.
I didn't know what she was waiting for until it struck me.
Of course.
"How was yours?" I asked, a little hesitantly.
That was a mistake.
The next moment, she went off on a long rant of her absolutely-amazing-weekend-with-her-extended-family.
I couldn't help but feel a little sour.
Here was a girl my age, (or almost, as she was a sophomore while I a junior) having killer weekends with a family whom she could actually meet and call family.
And then, there's me. A guy who didn't even remember his own mother's face because she as good as didn't exist in his life.
It had been a long time since I last met my family.
I hadn't really heard much about her weekend, but from what I have heard about almost each on of her weekends, she must have gone on a picnic, had a barbecue, etc etc.
I would have almost cried with relief when I saw my classroom.
"Uh, Diana? Hate to part, but I gotta go. My class is here." I said, trying to sound as if I was devastated because I couldn't hear more.
I don't think I succeeded.
"Oh right. I'm so sorry, Will! I just ranted off and didn't give you a chance to say anything about your weekend. I just… I need to shut my mouth a bit huh." She said, sounding almost bitter. She also seemed close to tears. I felt bad for her.
"Hey, it's no biggie. I didn't have anything to share anyways!" i said, trying to sound as sincere as possible. It wasn't that hard anyways.
"You can tell me about it in lunch if you want!" She said, putting on a radiant smile.
I smiled back at her.
"Well, see you later, I guess." I said, waving a bye bye to her as I went in.
Phew. That escalated fast.
Diana could be annoying at times, but she was also very sweet at heart and didn't mean any trouble. She just was annoying without realising and I suppose she just needed someone to point it out to her. Being a single kid and having a doting family probably worsened her situation. As her friend, it was my responsibility to point out her annoying behaviour to make her better. But I just didn't have the heart. She was really cute and sweet and it was obvious that she was starting to realise her faults at least a bit. That did make me a pretty bad friend, but I couldn't help it. Anyone who knew Diana well wouldn't be able to say anything of the sort to her.
I went to my desk. Most of the desks were already taken. I just went to my usual spot in the second row that was right next to the window.
No one really cared about me, about whether I existed or not. I was invisible to them.
Well everyone but Lizzie and Kyle. And Diana as well, I guess.
Lizzie and Kyle have always been my best friends since the first year of highschool.
Sometimes, I don't quite understand how we became friends.
We were skipping fifth period.
Yeah.
Don't judge, it was Calculus, right after lunch.
I mean, who does that? That's plain evil. That's the facility that's set up to make sure every student hates school.
Anyways, we were skipping class and we happened to go to the same place to skip class.
Nice.
And then we just bonded, I guess.
Ew, that sounds cheesy.
Okay, rephrase that.
We decided that it was quite funny we chose the same spot to stay in while skipping class. So, we just decided to get to know each other because we felt quite lonely anyways.
That's better.
So, ever since, we are like three peas in a pod, or…
Well, I can't think of anymore similes.
Too bad.
I guess, it's a simile, that is.
I wouldn't know, English is not really my thing.
But yeah.
As if on cue, Lizzie came in and sat on the desk next to mine.
"Hey~ Will~" She said.
"Hey, Liz." I said, trying to mimic her over high pitch and extraness. I succeeded at the extraness (because I'm extra hah!) but failed at the high pitch.
My voice is deep, not high.
Liz simply laughed.
"You're crazy!" I said, shaking my head.
"And you're a maniac. How was your weekend?" She said.
I rolled my eyes.
"The usual, what do you expect?" I said.
"Hm, our Willy needs to have some more fun in life." She said, laughing as I playfully hit her for the nickname.
I couldn't help but laugh myself.
There was something about Liz that made you laugh for no real reason. You just felt very light hearted and very free. You felt as if you don't have any problems and worries for the few hours you are with her.
Those are the best hours of your life.
"Hey, mate, stop flirting with my Lizzie!"
That was Kyle. He was basically married to Lizzie but he never admitted any feeling for her.
Like bro, you're way to obvious so why hide?
"Hey bro, sorry I won't flirt with your Lizzie" I said, making finger quotes at the last two words.
Liz was blushing slightly and trying to hide it with her caramel hair.
Kyle seemed (note the keyword: seemed) indifferent but to me who'd know him for two years, he was probably just acting.
"You better not, mate." He said, laughing off as he took a seat behind Liz.
"So, what were you guys talking about?" He asked, his dimple showing as he smiled.
Dimples have always been my weakness.
"We were talking about how our Willy needs to have more fun" Liz said, not quite looking at Kyle.
"Oh! Let me guess, you had a "pretty chilled weekend" huh?" He said.
"Yeah." I said.
I suddenly wanted to be alone.
My friends knew about my parents, obviously. But I didn't find it exactly thrilling to talk to them about my parents.
Kyle changed the topic, maybe sensing my mood or something.
I sighed.
When will my life get normal?
Chapter 3 is up!
