CHAPTER NINETY EIGHT

How can there be blood and everything still be okay?

Logan doesn't understand, it doesn't work that way!

"You're hurt!" I exclaimed softly, panicking even though he's standing in front of me.

"I'm fine" Logan repeated, sounding convincing, but wincing as he lifts a hand to hug me, drawing his hand back to himself. "I promise you, I am fine. Look when Dr. Morris gets here later today, you can have him check me." Logan continues, I'm not convinced because I am the one who sent them out there, wherever they went

Sitting up to stare into his deep blues, "where did you go?" I asked, waiting for him to try lying to me.

As expected, Logan looked away from me briefly, his eyes troubled. "Jamie I would tell you, but not right now." Logan promised, still, that wasn't good enough, for me.

Frowning, I continued staring at him, shaking my head.

Reaching out, Loan held my shoulders, staring into my grays, "Jamie, if you don't know, then you are safe and until this is finish, I will do whatever you ask me to do, but I will not divulge any information about how I get it done." He says sternly. "Understand?" He asks and I nod but I still don't understand.

Chuckling, Logan lay down on his back, "no you don't understand, but that will have to do for now." He says, his eyes closing, but I don't have the heart to wake him since he's been out all night long.

I joined him in a troubled sleep, waking up when I feel my phone vibe under my pillow. Looking over my shoulder I see Logan still fast asleep, lying on his stomach, his bare back facing me with a hand cradling his head.

I see mom's ID displayed, "you are still asleep?" Mom chuckles. "Must have been a hell of a date night?" She continues and I get the impression that she is not as easily fooled as dad.

"Uh, yeah." I said, unable to contribute what I honestly don't know and I can see why the less I know is better for me.

"I'm giving you fifteen minutes. Meet me at your backdoor. I have breakfast." mom hangs up.

Easing myself quietly off the bed, without disturbing Logan, I moved towards the bathroom and took a quick shower changing into a short jeans, that I am not unable to button and one of Logan's white T-shirt, cursing under my breath. I need a new wardrobe.

As usual I was late to meet my mother-in-law, to whom timing is everything.

Grabbing a blanket to throw over my legs, I quietly opened the backdoor, smiling as a gush of wind sweep over my face.

I am so thankful that the guys made this extension for me to relax, although the only sad part is, the lake is on the other side of the cabin.

I have been sketching a house I want lower down and so far I don't think they have started utilizing that area. I already have a draft of a cabin and a separate driveway leading to the front door. I hope that it is possible to have it done before my baby gets here.

"Jamie," I look across to where mom sits with a wide log, approximately four feet tall, which serves as a table, that's laden with a teapot and two plates filled with pancakes, bacon and eggs and a separate plate with slices of bread.

Smiling in appreciation, "this all looks so amazing. I can't wait to get back in the kitchen" I say, leaning down to peck mom on her cheek, already dreading the conversation that she wants to have.

I took my time sitting down and still felt the zipper on my jeans running down, but at least I have a blanket.

Mom looks around the area where we sat, "can you see yourself living down here long term?" she asks, observing me curiously, as she hands me a plate, adding a slice of bread to it.

"Thanks" I responded, accepting the plate, instantly picking at the plain pancake. Inspite of what is added to pancake, I still love the old fashion type.

I look at the land behind mom, "I have actually drawn a house I would like to have here someday." I pulled the book from under the couch where I sat and handed it over to her.

Mom stared at my drawing, while we ate in silence, with a contented smile on her face.

I was finished first, eating everything on the plate. I have always had a hearty appetite and now that I am pregnant, it's gotten heartier.

Mom puts down her half eaten breakfast on the log table, "I'll give this to Francis." She says about the drawing that is now in her possession.

Shaking my head, "uh no, that's okay. I'm sure I'll eventually get around to it." I told her awkwardly.

"Consider it a gift to my granddaughter and her parents," mom says and I still didn't think it felt right, even if Logan is their son.

Remembering the mansion they just lost, "what about you and dad?" I ask and continued when she lifts questioning eyes to me, "your home. What are you going to do about it?" I asked, feeling that I am invading their privacy.

Mom looks around the the wide open area, "I was hoping that maybe you could sell us a portion of this property to build a house. I mean it's just Francis and I and we could be near you and the baby." Mom pauses, "And Logan of course."

Frowning, "sell you?" I can't sell you, but you can choose a spot to build on, although" I turn towards the cabin, "this building stays." I said softly.

"Jamie," mom starts, but I cut her off.

Chuckling, "honestly, you and dad, you're my family. This place has enough for us, Jer and" I looked down, silently, calling Jess.
