CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT

LOGAN'S POV

Before walking out,.Justin gives me a nod, but I'm only in my boxers and mom is still in the room.

Getting out from under the covers, "close your eyes mom" I chuckle, embarrassing Jamie more.

"Logan," she shouts. "behave" she added, covering her face.

"I made you sweetheart, you can't hide from me." mom retorted, turning to look at me.

"Are you leaving?"Jamie asked with a worried look.

Pulling on a pair of joggers, I turn to look at her.

"No babe" I pulled over a T-shirt, coming to kiss her on the head. "I'm just going downstairs" I spun around to show her, my very homey dress code. Before walking out barefoot.

Justin informed me that my grandfather was waiting in dad's office for me. When I looked at him, before entering the room, I knew that my soft jolly grandfather was gone and in his place was the man who ran the GLASDAN BOYS. An empire started by his great grandfather. Until a few years ago, after my arrest, it became dormant, or maybe like me, it was sleep. Now who, give it the kiss of life.

Fighting to pretend that I have seen no change in my grandfather's countenance, I smile, as I made slow strides into the room.

"Grandfather" I greeted him as I normally do, or I hope, its the way that I normally do.

*Logie" my grandfather walks over, giving me a hug.

"Come,.come sit" he puts a hand behind my back, guiding me towards the double sofa.

He poured me drink of whiskey, putting it in my hand. "Drink up" he encouraged me.

Putting the glass down, "I just took two painkillers" I laugh, in disappointment.

With a deep frown creasing his forehead, "huh"he said, putting it on the desk.

Why do I suddenly feel uneasy in my grandfather's presence.

He looks at me as if he's trying to read me.

"Grandmother is probably going crazy with you being away" I observe, chuckling.

"Oh she knows that I will be home soon" he said, his eyes reflecting a cold look. "She can't wait for her grandson"

Smiling, I know he's up to something.

"So when are you going back to work?" he asked, which is unusual for him. He hates my job wishing I would leave but he had stopped asking me to leave and stopping asking about my job.

"I need to make sure Jamie is well, before I venture out again." I told him the same thing I've said to the partners and everyone I came in contact with.

"Well, you know Jamie will be laid up for a while, we'll have nurses at her disposal, uh, until the baby arrives." he told me, but something is still off and he's making me wait for it.

In the early years when he took me from my mom, I use to sneak into his office and listen in, on his conversations with the men that worked for him and I recognise the expression and the tone of grandfather.

All I feel is that Jamie is involved.

I pulled Jamie's phone from my pocket, putting on the recorder, while I pretend to search for messages.

Nodding at the phone, he fold his arms and looks at me with expectancy.

"It's Jamie's phone, I'm looking for her doctors number to book a check up for tomorrow" I explained, I actually sent a message booking an appointment for Jamie tomorrow.

Now I await his reply. Pressing the record button, I slipped the phone into the seat, ready to record whatever transpires when I leave the room.

I guess I'll have to wait for the response since I turned off notifications and the ringer volume.

Standing up, I looked at grandfather who was so deep in thought, that he didn't observe that I was leaving the phone.

"Is that it?" I asked him.

With the cold look and a smile that didn't reach his eyes, "no, but it will have to do for now", he said.

I walked up and hugged his tense shoulders, " see you at dinner" I said, before walking out, stopping to only breathe out, before walking up the hall.

I walked further into the hallway but I see no one. that I was looking for.

As I was heading back, I stopped as I notice Jessica, who looks behind her nervously, before opening the door to the office I just exited, without even knocking.

What the f**k is going on and what's up with Jessica.

Darn yes the phone is recording and I hope it goes without a hitch.

I sat in a corner behind a pillar that I use to hide when I was a kid while I waited to speak to my dad. I had to time him before anyone else got a chance to talk to him first. Darn, I fit!

Still hidden in the hallway, I see Jessica exiting, laughing happily, with my grandfather following her. Checking my watch, I realised they had been talking for more than thirty minutes.

As soon as they were out of sight, I stayed behind for a few minutes before venturing from behind the pillar, I realized it was easier going in, than coming out. F**k!

I wriggle out of my hiding place, before going into my father's office.

I see the phone right where I left it. Picking it up, I realized it was still recording.

With a grim smile, hoping there is nothing about Jamie recorded here, because Jessica will never support anything bad against her sister.

I turned off the recorder, saving the recording, putting the phone in my pocket, ready to walk out.

Stopping, what did grandfather say, "no, but it will have to do for now".

I pulled open the top drawer, lifting files, putting them on the desk, I started browsing, through each file. Shocked with the documents staring me in the face.

I pulled the papers out.
