Till death do us part

Robert was hurled twenty feet through the air, crashing hard against the ground before he could regain control. His chest was seared from the mage's attack, the acrid smell of burning flesh filling his nostrils. The sharp sizzle of his scorched skin rang in his ears. He glanced down, his eyes locking onto the charred patch across his chest. But the adrenaline coursing through his veins dulled the pain—he felt nothing for now. He knew, though, once the adrenaline wore off, the real agony would come crashing down on him like a tidal wave.
