Regretful Decision

After their first battle stepping out of the woods, the girl makes another plan to kill the zombies. The boy does not really have much to say. Yesterday, when they killed the zombies, he felt like he did something. However, he wonders if they keep killing the zombies for no reason, would it be okay? The girl has her own reason for killing zombies, but what about him?

Does the girl feel happy herself doing a meaningless thing? The boy is convinced even if they banish all the zombies from the earth, the girl will always feel a void in her heart. He does not want that. Thoughts after thoughts cross his mind as he looks to the sky that is moving through his car windows, while in fact, they are the ones that moving.

The girl is driving while the boy is listening to the music from a CD that somehow still works. They are riding a red Volvo P1800. It is a nice vintage classic sports car with only two seats on the front. The boy was the one who chose that car. He certainly has a thing for vintage stuff.

Being immortal and inevitably strong, they both are indifferent toward the cold in the winter. The girl drives the car down the road, thankfully there is still no sign of dangerous creatures around.

"Hmmm…it's eerily quiet, is it because it's winter?" The girl opens a conversation while watching carefully the situation around her.

"Could it be that the zombies become slower because of the weather?" The boy speculates.

"That makes sense! wait I have an Idea." The girl suddenly speeds up their car velocity.

The car passes by a highway and several high buildings. Several zombies dotted their eyes on the car that is moving and chase them. Both of them enjoy their good time with the music and wind that brushes their skin. The zombies do not scare them because they are moving extremely slowly.

They both get out of the car and the girl holds the boy's hand.

"Hurry up, we need to get upstairs." She says.

The boy holds her hand tightly. They run entering a supermarket and going to the staircase that leads to the rooftop. It is not that high up, the supermarket only has two floors. When they get to the rooftop, the boy instinctively lays down on the ground and opens his legs as wide as he can. He grips his shotgun with his right hand and as always puts his left hand on the forearm.

The girl keeps standing beside him, she is waiting for the zombies to come closer until she finds perfect range to shoot them.

When their eyes meet, the boy nods his head signing that he is ready for their next plan. This time he does not forget to pull out the trigger guard. He is feeling the wind that touches his skin. He finally spotted several zombies walking toward them. He exhales slowly and then pushes the trigger while targeting the zombies.

He successfully landed his bullets on the zombies' necks. One by one the zombies fall down to the ground. There are some hysterical zombies that try to climb up to the second floor, however, it is a piece of cake for the girl. She professionally shoots the zombies mercilessly. After all of the zombies lay seemingly dead on the ground, the boy jumps at once from the two-floor supermarket.

The girl is shocked and then shouts, "What are you doing?"

"We need to cut their head off," The boy answers.

The boy takes out a knife that he puts in his bag. Then he cuts the zombies' heads leisurely. It seems like he gets used to it.

"Strange…" The girl looks at her gun. "It's going way too smooth," she then loaded her gun with other bullets.

Just when she thinks about that, all of the creatures that have no faces, huge, and muscular coming at them from all sides. The boy is still busy cutting the zombies' heads. The girl's adrenaline spikes up. Her heart pumping faster. She could see all of the creatures approaching the boy and her.

"Sh*t…..run! run now!" The girl screams on top of her lung.

The boy sprints to the supermarket. However, he is not fast enough compared to the creatures. He left his shotgun beside the girl, so he only has one ghost gun on the right of his hip. He fires right away at the creatures. They are tough, the bullet only hurt them a bit. The girl is right, these creatures are more vigorous than the ones they face in the woods.

The girl is also busy shooting the creatures that coming at her. She fights for her dear life while looking at the boy swarmed by the creatures. She instantly kills the creatures within 2 meters range. The creatures are appearing in her eyes nonstop.

"I gotta save him, get out of my way!" the girl shoots 2 creatures that jump into her.

The girl hops off the 2-floor supermarket while bringing the boy's shotgun. When her feet touch the ground. She could feel her bones cracking. It is unlike her to be hot-headed in this kind of situation. The boy hits the creatures with his ghost gun swiftly. He gets out from the swarm of creatures covered in blood.

The girl gazes into his eyes while still crouching on the ground.

"Move! move! I said to move" the boy shouts at her.

The girl could not move her legs at all. She shouldn't have jumped from the second floor.

Injured creatures from the second-floor spring up to her. These creatures are regenerating in no time. The boy shoots the creatures just before they touch the girl. He then cuts off all the creatures' heads that attack him. Next, he continues cutting the other creatures' heads that attack the girl.

"You should've not jumped from there! I can manage it by myself!" The boy exclaims angrily.

"Are you okay?" The boy holds out his hand.

"I'm sorry I can't move my legs." The girl reasoned.

"Instead of me…I think you're hurt badly," She adds.

"No…I'm fine! I'm…o…" The boy looks down at his chest. He notices that there are 4 huge wounds on his chest and stomach. After fighting intensely, he finally felt the pain he received from the horrendous creatures. He probably couldn't feel it before because he was so focused on the battle.

The boy loses his consciousness.

The girl glances at the boy lying beside her in the car. She already cleaned up his wound but there is no sign of him breathing. Could it be that the boy is actually dead?

Tears run down her cheeks. It is her fault. She shouldn't have asked the boy to do this with her. No, she shouldn't have planned this the first time.

If that's true, then it means she's sitting with a corpse right now. The girl sticks her ear to the boy's chest. Nothing. Not even a single beat. The boy's face looks pale. His lips are blue. And his skin is as cold as ice. The girl touches the boy's skin.

"Tell me you're alive, stop pretending…" The girl crying her heart out.

She regrets her decision to bring the boy to fulfill her unbelievable mission.

"Wake up…" She keeps on weeping.

The girl says, " I'm sorry, this is how you must feel when I was injured, It does not matter that we are immortal. I still don't want to see you get hurt," She wails.

She wraps her hand around the boy hoping that he will be awake soon.

The boy wakes up to the girl hugging her inside a car. He is certain that he died before. Just right before the girl asked him how he was doing, his life passed before him. His meeting with the girl, his moments with her, their battles with the zombies. So it is true that before we die our life flashes like a movie.

His whole body is extremely in pain. Blood goes through the cloth wrapped by the girl. His heart is beating slowly. He could feel his liver is being stabbed by a needle. He has trouble breathing. This is worse than his occasional panic attack. It is incredibly painful that there are no words to describe it. It's like his body is cracking like glass.

The girl perks up and sees the boy in his terrible condition.

"You…you're still alive," She hugs him tightly.

The boy is choking while holding in the pain because the girl pressing his wounds.

"Oh My God! I'm sorry!" she wipes away her tears while undoing her hug.

"Did you… cry?" The boy speaks slowly because apparently it's hurt when he is talking.

"I'm sorry, I….maybe you are right we should just live our lives, I don't want to see you hurt anymore," She cries.

"Did I die?" The boy asks.

"Yeah you did….you stopped breathing, I almost thought that I have to bury you myself."

"God, don't even say that,"

"Let me see your wound," The girl unveils his shirt with her hands.

"Wait…wai..don't do it so suddenly," The boy says nervously.

"I'm just going to check a bit," She assures the boy.

She stares at the wound for a long time. The boy gulps down nervously, uncertain about what he has to do.

"Your wounds…they are healing very slowly," The girl says.

"What? but didn't you heal only for a day?" The boy becomes confused.

"Well yeah it's me, I don't know about you. And you are hurt very badly too…this could take several days." She explains.

"Let's just find a place to stay for a while," The boy states.

"Right…I was so worried all this time, I thought you would not wake up anymore,"

"Dying is not so bad though," The boy replies.

"What? how is that not bad? You are going to leave me behind, all alone in this apocalypse?" The girl strongly objects to the boy's words.

"I realize how important you are to me," He says.

The boy looks deeply into her eyes. He grazes the girl's cheek and slowly leans his head toward her. His lips press against hers. The boy could feel her warm soft lips on top of his. Meanwhile, the girl feels the complete opposite, she feels his cold blue lips on top of hers. Yet, she still closes her eyes. She knows that the boy is not normal. He's not warm like others, but if that's the case she is willing to share her warmth.
