Chapter 21

Samantha was standing on the rooftop, looking at the view of the city. During her small breaks, she would come here to get some air. She would also look at the view or zone out from her work. She would also think about her daughter during this time. She was always thinking about her daughter's whereabouts or was she dead. Samantha had to admit that she did not have the power to take down Yanwu. Even her own officers would not make it for one minute during the battle with Yanwu. Sometimes, she felt like she failed her daughter. The other Head Officers would criticize Samantha a lot. Like they would tell her that she would be a true police officer if she had found her daughter and destroyed Yanwu immediately. They would also say that her work was unprofessional and that the way she lead her team was unethical. But Samantha knew it was not easy to bring down the dangerous gangster. They did not understand the amount of pressure and information she and her officers had to go through every day. Not to mention that they also had to do other work.

Samantha stopped thinking about work and was admiring the view. The breeze brushed against her body. She was hearing the cars and buses driving passed the building. There was no one on the top roof that was going to bother Samantha. She was not even bothered about her surroundings.

"It's wonderful to see Officer Samantha Lau.", a woman said behind.

Samantha froze for fifteen seconds. There was some frustration in Samantha's heart because someone bothered her free time. She slowly turned around to the door. A woman with a fully covered white mask was standing by the door. She was leaning against the door with her arms crossed. Samantha was looking at her with shock.

"White Jaguar.", she answered.

"Apparently that's my name now.", she answered in a slightly deep voice.

Samantha was examining her. "I expected you to be shorter.", she said.

White Jaguar was indeed taller than Samantha. White Jaguar removed herself from the door and walked closer to Samantha with her arms crossed. Samantha took a few steps back to stay away from her. White Jaguar stopped three meters away from her.

"Shouldn't you be investigating Yanwu?", White Jaguar asked.

"I needed some time to get some air.", Samantha answered.

"Understandable when working on the most dangerous case.", she said then looked at the view. "Aaaaaiiiii, it's nice to look at Shanghai in the evenings. It takes your mind out of things."

Samantha also agreed with her. "So, what's your next mission?", she asked out of curiosity.

"Would you want to be my partner?", White Jaguar went straight to the point.

Samantha looked at her with confusion. "What?"

"You heard me. I don't like repeating myself."

Samantha found that so absurd that she even started laughing. "Why should I be working with someone like you?", she asked.

"Because you and I have the same goal.", White Jaguar answered.

"Then why do you want me to be your partner? Firstly, why didn't you come out sooner?"

"So many questions on our first meeting.", White Jaguar said.

"It's good to ask questions.", Samantha said then looked back at the view.

"You and I have the same mission which is taking down Yanwu. That's why I want you to be my partner. It took me years to become a brilliant fighter. I was also afraid to go to The Forbidden Harbor. But now I have the guts to bring him down. You can't be living your life like this. No one wants to live life like this, especially us women. Very soon Yanwu will be taking young boys and selling them.", White Jaguar answered the two questions.

Samantha looked at White Jaguar. "Yanwu is also cruel that he will even kill an animal for nothing. What are you going to do? Do you work with a team?", she asked.

"No. Hacking, making my weapons, fighting outfits and electronic devices are done by me. Tomorrow, you will be receiving a package filled with papers."

"What's in the package?"

"Files of businessmen that have a connection with Yanwu. Everything is in order. You just need to go through the information and decide whether they are good enough for the businessmen to be arrested.", White Jaguar explained.

Samantha was becoming interested in White Jaguar. "Who are those businessmen working with Yanwu?"

"I'm not telling you. I want to surprise you."

"Then why do you need my help?"

"You are the only officer I trust at the moment. You might think that all the officers are on your side. Well, some of them could be working with Yanwu. They could be stealing the information from your desk and giving them to Yanwu. You mustn't trust anyone, not even your closest friend. Remember, I don't have the authorities to just arrest the crooks. That's why I need a police officer to work with me.", White Jaguar answered looking at the view.

"Unbelievable. Sometimes I don't know whether I should trust you. I know my officers. They will never betray me because they have been working with me for years. I should be arresting you.", Samantha was becoming frustrated.

"Okay, I tried my best. But if you do change your mind, you got my number. Just message me."

"Don't bother because I don't want to work with someone who won't be able to bring my daughter back. Now get out of my sight and I don't want to see you again.", Samantha was really frustrated.

White Jaguar moved away from the view and walked towards the stairs. She understood how Samantha was feeling right now. White Jaguar did not want to force Samantha to be her partner. Samantha was looking at the view while she could hear the footsteps getting softer. White Jaguar came out of the building and was walking toward her bike. There was no one walking around here. It was also pretty quiet in the buildings. There were no suspicions happening anywhere. White Jaguar hopped on her bike, put the helmet on, and started the engine. Samantha was looking at White Jaguar from the rooftop. She watched White Jaguar leaving the premises.
