Chapter 6

After being rescued by the awakeners from the association, they directly brought us to the nearest hospital to treat our wounds. We sustained quite a lot of injuries from bruises, sprained ankles, stabbing injuries, and even the burns I had were more severe compared to what I had thought.

It was not only us who got admitted to the hospital, every single one of the rescued survivors received a certain degree of injury. It turns out that almost all of the employees in our company were dragged into the dungeon. The company's building was also in ruin because of the force when the dungeon door was created.

Unfortunately, not all of the employees who were successfully rescued were alive. There were quite a lot of casualties. It was almost two-thirds of the total. Manager Wang was one of the casualties that I knew of. They said he was found already mangled by a pack of wolves.

Yeah, the same pack of wolves that he tried to kick us into.

It turned out karma was still working at its finest. It bit him in the ass in the end, and his most praised son-in-law was not even qualified enough to join the rescue team as he's only a C-rank awakener with no real experience in regular dungeon clear yet.

It was because the level of this dungeon turned out to be higher than what they had expected previously. It was around an A-level dungeon, a special level one at one point. The boss in that dungeon experienced a mutation that was a little unusual.

Thankfully, one of the top 5 S-rank awakeners in the country happened to be in the area. The association directly called for him to lead the rescue team. That was why the rescue was a little bit later than usual as they needed to re-evaluate the rank of awakeners who were going to the rescue.

The association also told us that we got transferred to one of the furthest places in the dungeon. It was why it took them a long time to find our whereabouts.

Knock knock knock

"Come in!" I said while lying down on the hospital bed.

"Hi, we're just going to deliver some good news for you guys." it turned out to be one of the representatives from the awakener association.

They were quite nice, always coming to check up on us and sharing some updates about the evacuation that was still ongoing.

"Oh, hi. We didn't expect you guys to come today." Mirae answered from the other side of the room.

Yeah, Mirae and I got to be in the same treatment room. I think they decided to group us so we were not too out of shock after being rescued from such a life-and-death experience.

"Yeah, what's up? I thought you guys had finished evacuating everyone that got trapped." The last time they came to check on us was yesterday, and they told us the evacuation was finished as they had found every single missing person and even successfully defeated the dungeon boss.

"We are done with the evacuation. But, we got another news for you guys."

"Okay, what is it?" Mirae quickly asked them.

"So, the association is going to issue some compensation to all survivors, both alive and dead. The compensation both comes from the government and also from your company."

"Our company you said?" Mirae asked in disbelief.

"Yes, your company. It's because the government has found some illegal employment contracts submitted by your upper management. Your company also had some illegal dungeon items with high Aether levels that might be one of the triggers for the dungeon break."

"Serve them right," Mirae replied without any shock in her voice.

It was not a surprise for us, as we were part of their employee and we knew exactly what a sleazeball this company was.

"So, because of illegal activity in your company. The government decided on a punishment by giving every single employee a severance payment."

"But, if it's like that. I don't think the company can even handle that much money left in their pocket." I said with some understanding of how the company's condition was.

"Yes, that is the next news I have for you. Because of this, the company has already declared bankruptcy. So after getting discharged, all of the employees can get to decide what is their next plan."

"Moreover, the compensation payment will go directly to every employee's account at the end of this week."

"Hmm, our next plan huh..." I mumbled my thoughts out loud.

"We, the association, hope all of the survivors can rise back again. This can be a new chapter in your life, so live to the fullest." She smiled at us, maybe thinking that we might be depressed by the sudden change in our lives.

"Thank you…" I looked back at her with renewed vigor.

"Yeah, thank you so much for all the help." Mirae also answered enthusiastically.

The representative didn't stay long after that and excused herself saying that she had to go tell the same news to the other survivors.

For a moment the room remained silent. No one was talking as we might be lost in our thoughts.

Just then suddenly we both looked at each other and smiled.

Yeah, let's start a new chapter in our lives.
