Chapter 12 JOB INTERVIEW

KATRINA'S P O V

My eyesight was hazy because of the tears that were streaming down my face as I looked out the window of the cab. I couldn’t stop crying. Even the taxi driver was starting to worry about me.

I never in a million years had imagined that today would come. Finding out that my own cousin had sex with my husband.

My sobs were endless, I couldn’t breathe. Suffocated, I clutched my chest. My heart was broken into a million little pieces over and over, and I just can't picture ever, feeling like it's complete again. It would be impossible to fill this void in my heart.

I have no choice but to look for a new job; otherwise, I will starve to death.

My eyes squeezed shut as I bit my bottom lip. I didn't bother trying to wipe the tears away when they landed on my face after another one had fallen. I was already a mess.

I gave the watch on my wrist a quick check. It's still early in the afternoon--- three o'clock.

After providing the driver with the address of the house, I made an effort to compose myself in order to avoid making Tina freak out.

When the taxi eventually arrived at its destination, the driver opened the car door for me, and threw me a look of sympathy.

I took a few deep breaths before I walked toward the house, trying my best not to collapse. All this crying had drained my energy.

I inserted the key in the keyhole with my trembling hand, and Tina’s face popped before me. I tried to stop myself from sobbing, but I couldn’t help it. I burst into tears.

Tina’s eyes widened in shock, and panic quickly skated all over her face at the sight of how devastated I was.

‘‘Oh my God, Katrina!’’ she hugged me, and let me in, closing the door behind us. ‘‘What happened? Let me guess... It’s Cohen again, right?!’’

Even though this wasn't the first time she'd witnessed me sobbing in front of her, I could tell that it was by far the worst.

Tina caught me just in time to prevent me from falling to the ground after my knees finally gave out. While I sobbed, I leaned my head against her shoulder. She was attempting to calm me down by placing her hand on my back. As was typical of her, I could sense her concern and worry towards me.

I recounted everything that happened in the office, while I bawled my eyes out. How Ella humiliated me in front of everyone in the cafeteria. How Cohen admitted that something happened to them on the day of our wedding. And the fact that I am no longer working as Cohen's secretary because I had just quit.

‘‘I’ll kill him!’’ Tina growled as she helped me get into my room, and tucked me in my bed.

……………************…………….

It was five o'clock in the afternoon when I made the decision to hunt for work online. I sent my application to every company that was hiring, primarily for secretarial work and personal assistant positions.

I've only sent the application to around 10 different firms, and some of them responded right away while others didn't. As I continued to scroll down the page in search for better opportunity, an advertisement suddenly popped up, stating that they were looking for a piano teacher.

I was skilled at playing the piano, but I had no interest on teaching, especially a kid. But my instinct was telling me that I should try sending an application. I heaved a sigh as I clicked on it before filling out the form. This was not at all high on my list of priorities. On the other hand, if I had no other option and if my application wasn't accepted by any of the company to whom I applied---which was impossible to happen, then I might consider accepting the job as a piano teacher.

After going through the emails of those who had responded, and discovering that some of them would be doing an interview the next day, I made the decision to make a note of it and marked them off on my list.

I have three job interviews tomorrow, so I needed to get up early.

After eating dinner, I took a quick shower, brushed my teeth, and went straight to my bed, trying to get some sleep. However, when I thought about what had happened earlier in Cohen's office, tears once again began to run down my face. I tried to fight them off, but eventually gave up.

I clenched my fists and tried to push him out of my head while I pressed my eyelids together till I could feel myself drifting off to sleep.

..............********.................

My alarm clock went off inside my room, but my eyelids were still heavy. When I realized that I didn't have to go to work today because I just resigned yesterday, a smirk came across my face as I went back to sleep.

I woke up again at nine in the morning, and as I yawned and stretched my limbs, I noticed that there were rays of sunlight peeking into the room through my closed curtain, and the sudden realization hit me. I have three job interviews today. Shit!

I jumped out of bed and rushed to the bathroom, and hurriedly did my morning routine. By the time I finished getting ready and stepped out of my room, Tina had already left for work. I informed her yesterday that I had already quit from my job—the reason why she didn’t wait for me. Oh my God!

I bolted out of the house as quickly as I could, making sure to lock the door behind me, before I ran down the street as fast as my legs could carry me. I was late, very, very late for my first job interview. I couldn't let this golden opportunity go through my fingers.

How in the world could I have possibly forgotten about my job interviews?

I huffed as I looked around, trying to look for a cab, but I couldn’t find one.

‘‘I’m sorry, please excuse me…’’ I demanded politely as I ran into a few folks on my way. It couldn’t be helped. I was trying to make up for lost time, which apparently, I didn’t have much of a chance of, because here I was, in front of me were a few people walking as sluggishly as they could.

I dashed up the numerous staircases before standing in front of the entrance into the tall skyscraper. I took a moment to compose myself, taking in a deep breath before I noticed my reflection in the glass door in front of me.

My long, light brown hair was a mess. I quickly brushed my fingers through my hair, smoothing it into a better appearance. After feeling satisfied, I dashed into the building, and I was greeted by a magnificent and beautiful interior. But what drew my attention the most were the men and women bustling around me who were dressed in beautiful suits. Not a single person paid attention to me.

‘‘Hi Miss, my name is Katrina Daw—Sinclair…’’ I didn’t use Cohen’s last name in my application, so I had to introduce myself as Katrina Sinclair to them. ‘‘I’m here for the interview…’’

‘‘You’re late, Miss, the interview has started an hour ago…’’ the blonde-haired woman said nonchalantly without looking up at me,

‘‘I am so sorry, Miss.... But I---’’

‘‘No, Miss. I’m sorry… but our boss hates tardiness and you’re a candidate for that…’’ she continued without looking up at me. ‘‘So, I guess, it’s time for you to go home…’’

‘‘Go home…?’’ I chuckled softly. ‘‘Miss, I really need this job, please---’’

Finally, she cast a glance in my direction, only to shake her head at me. ‘‘I’m sorry…’’ she sent me an apologetic look before returning her attention to the tasks at hand.

I heaved a sigh as I turned my heels and slowly walked out of the building, feeling so upset. My next interview would be at eleven, and it was still ten. There was still an hour left until I have to be at the next interview.
