Testing A Non-Recipe

"I can't really get anywhere in this book with only the words I translated from the recipes."

Kurao scratched his head, looking at the long notepad filled with foreign words with some of his native language written in spots. He pretty much recreated the pages he want to decipher into his notebook almost a one to one copy and then started putting in words that he already found out in place of the foreign words, so he could translate without messing up the original book.

Granted the book didn't have everything from the original since it only prioritized what images he saw that looked interesting.

Looking down at the book he sighed as a headache came too,

'I have been trying to learn this language for the past few days. The alphabet wasn't hard to get a grasp on at all since they only had around 26 symbols, but the way they arrange all 26 for their words is a bit weird.'

'The hurdle I have right now is the fact I don't know what these words mean, cause even though I can translate some of the words it doesn't even equivalate to the ones from my language. Pretty much setting me back to the beginning..'

Getting up from his desk he grabbed his notebook,

'Well even though I have reached a stand still on that, I need to check if some of these ideas even work.'

Walking out of his room, Kurao headed towards the stairs that led down to the first floor.

.

.

Making his way towards where the dining hall and the kitchen was located, Kurao encountered his sister Elise, who stopped him and then promptly questioned him.

"Where are you going Kurao?"

The little blonde girl asked.

"I was heading to kitchen to try something."

"I am feeling hungry as well, do you want to go together?"

Kurao wondered if he should explain that he wasn't heading to the kitchen to get something to eat, but to actually make something from the book.

But without him being able to even respond his body already was being dragged by the little girl.

As they were going towards the location Elise started a conversation,

"So I heard you visit my mother the other day, why didn't you visit me?"

"I had a few questions, and I went to her so she could help."

"Yeah I get that, but you still could've also paid me a visit."

Even though Kurao couldn't see her as she was taking the lead, he could imagine the pout she had on her face.

"You have been a bit distance since you awakened."

Even though she was older then him, she wasn't as mature as him which makes her usually not notice some social cues. Not that he minded cause she was the closest to him in age within the walls of the palace as well as the closest friend he had, but she could tell the difference in their relationship since he awakened months prior.

Understanding why she was a bit upset he responded,

"Next time I visit Aunt Vayla, I'll pay you a visit."

Elise's hand loosened it's grasp over Kurao's hand as she turned around and gave him a bright smile.

"We should visit that spot I showed you again."

"Sure, how about after my birthday?"

Elise smile turned into a frown as she complained,

"Why not sooner? Your birthday is so far away."

"Cause I have been preoccupied with my lessons as well as working on something recently."

They stopped in front of the dining room, as Elise dropped her frown as now she was more curious.

"What have you been working on?"

"I'll show you instead, that is why I came to the kitchen anyway."

Arriving to the first kitchen Kurao went past all the staff into the connected second kitchen which was currently empty. Kurao pulled out his notebook and flipped to a page that he wanted to test.

Going around the kitchen he started gathering all the ingredients, as Elise just watched him with curiosity.

"Hey Kurao, is there anything I can help you with?"

Without turning his attention away he responded,

"Yeah, can you put some water on boil?"

"Sure!"

Kurao went to find some flour in the pantry, as he was looking he heard Elise shout.

"Uhhhh, Kurao where are the pots?"

"In the cupboard on the island, it will be the farthest right side."

Kurao shouted back, he has been in the kitchen a lot recently trying the recipes he translated to make sure they were accurate. The time spent in the kitchen has made him more familiar with all its utensils and where they are located.

"Found it, thanks Kurao!"

He heard Elise shout as he found the ingredient he needed from the pantry.

Walking back to the kitchen he saw her trying to carry a pot of water with a bit of difficulty.

Kurao put down what he was carrying onto the counter as he walked over to Elise and picked up the pot full of water with ease and placed it on to the stove. Elise looked at Kurao with slight awe at how easy he handled the pot without much effort,

"Wow that was heavy, I bet it makes it easy to carry things when you use mana to help."

Kurao paused for a moment cause it wasn't with the use of mana. It was a bit of a sore spot when talking about anything relating to mana since his accident but he was feeling a bit of satisfaction.

'Training my body seems to make it easy for someone of my age, it seems to be paying off doing those morning exercises.'

He felt his morning training regiment that Slaine made him do has paid off a bit which made him feel better about his temporary lack of mana.

After the water boiled he poured it into a large bowl as he poured in flour that he grabbed from the pantry.

"Okay Elise now we need to mix this, follow the way I do it."

Kurao showed her how to whisk the flour and water. After a while it became a thick mixture, Kurao added water and then put the contents back into a pot back on the stove.

"What are we making Kurao?"

"I am not sure."

"What?"

"Never made this before so I am just following the recipe."

Elise was now confused to why Kurao want to make this if he didn't even know what it was. The thing was that Kurao didn't know what it was called since he couldn't trace it to anything, but it was one of the few things in the book at used recipe ingredients, but wasn't located in the area full of food recipes.

After a few minutes, Kurao took the pot off the stove and poured it back into a bowl.

"I think it should be done now."

Elise curious about the thing that they just made, coated her finger in it and tried tasting it, but as soon as it landed on her tongue her face turned to disgust.

"This tastes awful, you don't know how to cook at all Kurao."

She went to the sink to wash the taste away with the water.

Kurao was confused on what it was since he wasn't able to find out what it did except on how to make it.

He put his finger into the bowl like Elise and felt the texture of the substance he placed his finger against the counter as he moved it away it had a slight resistance.

Curious about the weird interaction he put his whole hand in the bowl and then put it on the counter, like before it had resistance when he tried to move his hand away.

"Kurao what are you doing?"

She was curious to what he was doing with the mixture and why he was pulling it out and then slapping his hand again the counter.

"Come and look if you are curious."

Kurao tears out a blank piece of paper from with his free hand from his notebook and places it in the bowl.

"Why are you doing that?"

"Just look."

He places the paper on the counter's edge letting it dangle there for a moment. Elise on the other hand was not impressed by the dangling piece of a paper. Kurao's reaction was the opposite though for different reasons.

"So what?"

"That's the thing it should be falling to the ground especially with how heavy it after I put it in the bowl, but it's just sticking to the side not falling!"

Yes, I know that's not exactly how glue works but for the sake of writing it works like that.
