When the Reader Descends Into the Novel With a System

Darkness and light. Two extremes coexisting. A law of equivalent exchange, balancing the world. Where there is light, there must be darkness. And as such, where there is darkness, there must be light. That is the rule of the world my child, and you are the one balancing on the fine line, stuck in between. An anomaly. An abomination. Where you go, death and destruction follow. That will be your fate. You are the one and only son of the darkness, mothered by the daughter of the light. What path will you walk my child? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the story of Kurayami Akimitsu, a contradiction of light and darkness, and I, who reincarnated into his body. In this world based off a novel I had read, what will happen with the addition of me, an unknown entity? Who knows everything about the future of this world. Will I survive with this identity? Only time will tell. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Currently on HIATUS. This is my WSA 2022 submission. A/N: So this is going to be the second novel that I will seriously write, with an upload rate of 7 chapters a week. My inspirations for this novel were TAPOV (The Author's POV) and DWTN (Dance With the Nightingale) but the world building will be extremely different and the backstory of the MC will be unique also. The ranking system will be the same, but it's the same ranking system across a lot of novels, so I think it's okay for me to use? There also might be cliches like an academy and an auction, but again, I'll make it as different from the norm as possible. I hope that this will be a refreshing take on the "mob character becoming overpowered genre" for you guys. Release Rate: Check the schedule Chapter Length: 1000-1500 words per chapter My chapters are edited by myself, so forgive me if I make any mistakes. Just comment if there is a mistake anywhere. The first 10 or so chapters are filled with world building stuff, so I hope you'll stick with it and read it as I tried to make it all original. After the first 10, the story should pick up and the action will start, so please don't drop it after only reading a few chapters. Discord Link: https://discord.gg/8ePQESSSHT Finally, as always, thanks for reading! All names, characters, and incidents portrayed in this story are purely fictitious. No identification with actual persons (living or deceased), places, or products are intended. Note: The cover doesn't belong to me. If you are the original owner and want me to take it down, please leave a comment on my latest chapter.

The Island (4) - 47

We each gradually woke up in the morning to the sound of panting.

'Well, sounds like something's outside.'

Taking out my gun, I quickly shot, putting my tent and sleeping bag into my soul gem less than a second later, so that the bullet reached the creature before it could even see me.

"Bang!"

[You have been awarded 10 points.]

'Ugh, so it was only a shitty (F) ranked monster. I wonder how much monsters the hero and his friends have already grinded?'

"Akina! Why'd you shoot?" <Marabelle>

"There was just an (F) ranked beast outside our tents. Didn't you see your points go up?"

"Oh, yeah, sorry about that!"

'Hmm, seems like she's in a more agreeable mood after a good night's sleep, or was it because of Primrose? No! Again! Stop! You can't be having these thoughts running around your mind!'

Shaking my head, I quickly proceeded to set up a fire.

Starting to cook some food, I couldn't help but reminisce.

You see, from my extensive reading, I had read a few too many cookbooks, and because I had to cook for myself after I first got out of college, before that event happened, I was actually pretty proficient at it.

And yes, I did go to college and I did get a job. Don't say that you thought that I spent all my time reading, I didn't. Obviously, from all the life advice books I read, I knew that I couldn't continue reading without sustaining myself and earning money, so I endured the horrors of college life in return for a long time investment, so that I could read even more books.

Well, enough about my past life, let's get back to cooking.

Using the fresh meat from the pig like monster that I had just killed, a Pollywog, I quickly prepared a meal.

"Mmm, what's that smell?"

As if following her nose, Primrose walked out of the girl's tent still in her pajamas, her eyes closed, looking extremely cute I might add, as she quickly approached the sizzling pan.

Finally opening her eyes, she exclaimed, "Wow! Akina, you know how to cook?"

Expecting that any words I said wouldn't reach her anyways, I just stayed silent, continuing my cooking whilst warily glancing at Primrose from time to time, afraid that she was just going to reach out and take a bite before the meat was properly cooked.

Finally putting on the finishing touches, I portioned the piece of meat into three extremely even pieces with my monocle, before putting one of the pieces in a bowl already filled with piping hot rice and handing it over to Primrose.

She scarfed it down, extremely quickly, way too quickly, to the point where it seemed like she was just drinking the food.

"Ahhh... that was a good breakfast."

She relished in her pleasure for a few moments, whilst rubbing her belly, before she realized that I was staring at her, the astonishment pretty obvious on my face.

'Wow, sailors really are wild.'

Immediately realizing that she had let her "true" self out once again, she blushed red, before wiping her mouth properly with a napkin and excusing herself back into the girl's tent, tripping over a rock on her way to it.

'Oh, she's such a klutz... but that's what makes her so cute!'

"You gonna just keep staring at where she was, or are you gonna serve me my food?"

Whipping my head around, a few long strands of hair sticking to my face, I looked at the girls that had seemingly appeared out of thin air, astonished for the second time today, and it was just early morning!

I quickly suppressed my reaction before asking, "Oh, so you're good at stealth too."

I mean, I was definitely better in the stealth field then her, not to compare but... well anyways, because I had the (S) rank skill named "Stealth" after all, but that didn't necessarily mean that I could sense others "stealthing" onto me.

Expressionlessly making her food, I also quickly made my own, before we both started to eat, each of us staring intently into the crackling fire.

"I'm sorry..."

"Sorry for..."

We both tried to say something at the same time.

"Oh, you can go first."

"No, you go."

A moment of silence passed where we both challenged each other's determination to have the other go first.

"Alright, I'll go" She said, being the first to break, as it was probably wasting our time.

"So... I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for mistreating you yesterday. I was kinda venting my anger at Akimitsu, that bastard, on you, and I realize that I shouldn't have done it."

'Wow, she just had to add that part in.'

"Oh, no problem, no problem. I was kinda mad at him too, when he left me with two girls I didn't know, but I'm sure that we can get along!"

'Is it weird that I'm dissing myself?'

"Yeah.. but I'm wondering, do you know where that asshole went?"

"No idea, again, I was just told to meet at the tree, like you guys, well, at least I presume he told you guys that." I added the last part so that she wouldn't get suspicious.

"Oh, well that's fine. Now what did you want to say?"

"Oh, I just wanted to say that I was sorry for intruding on you guys, I should have just left on my own because Akimitsu didn't show up." I looked down, acting meek.

"No, no, it's fine, like they say, three girls are better than two."

"Really, you think so?" I asked, looking up into her eyes, trying to seem like a naive girl.

'Wow, she definitely heard that saying wrong or something."

"Yes, so, I was wondering, would you like to join us in my tent? I mean, it's big enough to fit all of us."

'No, no, no, please tell me I just didn't hear that correctly.'

"So?" <Marabelle>

"Well, that does it, you're joining us in our tent tonight, if there's no problem?" She said the last part like there wasn't even a question about it.

'Well, I'm screwed if they see my morning wood...'

'And I'm gonna be sleeping with two girls...'

'I mean, this normally wouldn't have been a problem for my middle-aged self, but this teenage body is basically almost overdosing on hormones!!!'

'Shit! What do I do???!!!!!'

I was now facing the worst conundrum I'd had since reincarnating into this world.

And it was the one that I had least expected to happen first on my whole list of "Problems That I Might Have to Face Being Reincarnated Into This Shitty World" list.

'Sigh, my life just keeps getting worse and worse.'
