Chapter 79

"You're blushing Artemis," Alexander said like it was the strangest thing he had ever witnessed. He didn't think the woman was capable of having such a side to her.

Artemis pulled Leon back out of the water to save him and smacked Alexander for being weird. "Are you crazy? After everything I put you through, how could you end up liking me? You're supposed to end up with a princess or something."

"I see. It's feelings that have you bipolar all of a sudden. That's why you've been pushing for me to be with Catherine. So that I could go with the person you think it makes sense for me to be with instead of you," he concluded. He figured she was not familiar with these new emotions and didn't know how to react.

"If you are trying to insinuate that I am blushing then it is wrong. Why would I like a human? I am a Goddess and I have not forgotten what happened in the past when I gave my heart to a human. All your kind does is stab people in the back. Take your friend and leave," she pulled Leon from dangling over the water much to the dismay of the sirens.

Artemis started to leave but Alexander held her hand to stop her. "I am not that human Artemis. Do not judge me for what someone else has done. There have been many times when I could have attacked or betrayed you but I didn't. You cannot put me in the same boat as that human I have never faulted you for the actions of another God. Do not do that to me, Artemis."

"I-"

"You tried to kill me!" Leon yelled at Artemis. He had never been more scared in his life which meant a lot because he was in more scary situations thanks to his job. "She tried to kill me and the both of you were just standing there having a casual conversation. What the hell are those things in the water and why are they smiling at me."

The sirens watched Leon with interest as he tried to catch his breath. The leader was upfront with her hand out for him to come to take. Her appearance made her seem innocent but Leon had witnessed her true appearance when he fell into the water.

"Sirens. Haven't you ever heard about the creatures who live down below the water? Unfortunately for you, they wish to drown you. Keep from by the water from now on or have Alexander speak to them," Artemis changed the subject. She would rather avoid talking to Alexander about feelings because it would mean the strange feeling she had these days was related to liking him. She didn't!

"I don't know how to speak to sirens," Alexander reminded Artemis. He had never once spoken to one and he couldn't understand what they were saying.

"When you stop being in denial about being a son of a siren, you will be able to understand them. They understand you perfectly. Look at the way they look at you," she pointed to the sirens who had shifted their gaze from Leon to Alexander.

Alexander now noticed the way the sirens were smiling at him like a young girl in love.

"Why would Alexander be able to speak with them?" Leon asked, confused by the entire situation. How long had Alexander been with the Goddess for him to find things like this to be normal? Did he forget they were supposed to kill creatures like the Goddess? "What is happening here?"

Artemis smiled upon realizing something. She looked to Leon who had no idea what she learned about Alexander. "Since you are so eager to kill creatures like me, go ahead and kill your friend here. Alexander is not exactly human."

Leon didn't believe a word Artemis said at first but when he saw that Alexander wasn't denying it, he realized it was true. "How could you be anything other than a human? You are a Mclane. Your family has been known as excellent hunters for creatures like her," he pointed at Artemis.

"Well, turns out his father found something very interesting on those hunts and fell in love with her. Your friend here is half siren, like the creatures. Since in your eyes all creatures are bad and deserve to be killed, go ahead, kill him. I'll order him not to move."

"Alexander is not a bad person. I have been his friend for a long time and all he ever does is look out for others. Alexander, come on. This doesn't make any sense." Leon would never hurt his friend. He knew Alexander better than anyone else. There was no way his father would have married someone who wasn't human.

"I have not spoken with my father to get the truth but from the siren's interest in me, it might be true. I know that you are scared and confused Leon but trust me when I say everything is alright. Don't listen to her," Alexander quickly said when he knew Artemis was going to disagree with him.

"You think you know me so well," Artemis scoffed, looking off to the side.

"Leon, are you going to trust me or not? If I truly am a half siren then I cannot protect only the human side I belong to."

Leon stared at Alexander, unable to accept him being a siren but knew he had to trust his friend. "I'm with you. What do you need me to do?"
