Chapter 76

"Catherine," Alexander warned her in a low voice. Sending an army to Artemis's doorsteps wasn't the brightest idea when the woman had stopped her plans of taking revenge against all humans. Artemis only wanted Darius dead because he killed innocent humans and creatures, plus he was planning on entering the forest to capture her.

For Catherine to send good men into the forest to fight against Artemis, would result in a lot of them dying. There was no need for her to propose war just because she thought he was in love with Artemis. That was not a valid reason for good men to die.

"What? Everyone is looking for what killed the king and I happen to know who did it and where they are. Why are you getting upset with me when I am within my right to get my brother's killer!" Catherine yelled, reaching her wit's end with Alexander. She wouldn't have to do this if Alexander would just accept her.

"Your brother's killer? If you step one foot in that forest the king's real killer will be exposed. Even if you are a princess, killing the king will have you locked up and hung if others see fit. I will not hesitate to reveal what I know if you send men off to die over your foolishness and the deals you made," Alexander replied, furious with what she had become. If he had it his way, he would strike her down now. Catherine was no better than Darius.

Catherine did not anticipate Alexander knowing about her being the one to kill her brother. Enjoy Chaos had planned on using and tricking her from the very beginning, she was the one wishing her brother was dead and became so greedy to have what was his that she ended up in that position. No one should ever know she was the one to pierce Darius with the sword or she would be punished as Alexander said.

Chaos had to die because he could come back at any moment to reveal what she died. The Goddess also had to die because she was in on the plan. Unfortunately, Alexander would either have to accept her marriage proposal or die so that the secret could be buried. She already knew what his answer would be and it pained her to come to this.

She loved Alexander but saving herself and keeping what she did a secret was much more important. "Alexander Mclane has to be arrested and killed for working with the monster that killed my brother. You there," she pointed at Leon who had been silent and observing the conversation. "Take him away so that he could be dealt with."

Leon found himself between a rock and a hard place. He had to listen to the princess's commands but she had no evidence of Alexander working for an enemy. If they take him away to be killed and he's proven to be innocent, the palace could find it in serious trouble. It was common knowledge that Alexander's father had an army of men who could rival that one in the palace.

No matter how many people hated Alexander and wanted him out of the palace, they were too scared to go up against both Alexander and his father. Many have plotted and failed. George Mclane will not stand by and allow for his son to be killed furthermore imprisoned. The princess had no idea of the power struggles going on in the palace as she was never one to pay attention. She couldn't see the mistake she was making. "Princess, it's not wise for you-"

"If you won't listen to my commands, I will get someone who will and you will be thrown into jail with him. Guards!" She called the guards outside of the king's bedroom. They had followed her to the king's bedroom to keep her safe and were following the order to stay outside.

Thomas came in with those guards because she had seen the princess running off to the king's bedroom and wanted to eavesdrop on her conversation with Alexander. He grinned when he heard what the princess said next.

"Arrest the two of them for connection to my brother's death. No one is to speak to them until their judgment," Catherine ordered the guards.

"With pleasure," Thomas took a step forward ready to do something he had been dreaming of since meeting Alexander. There was no one here to bail Alexander out of this one with the king being dead.

Alexander didn't have a problem going up against the men in the room but it was unfortunate he was dragging Leon into his mess. 'I have to get out of here,' he thought to himself.

"The show is getting boring. How dare you all gang up on something that belongs to me?" A voice interrupted the fight about to happen.

Alexander was surprised to hear Artemis's voice whilst the others in the room were confused by someone they heard but could not see. Catherine was shaken to her core thinking Chaos had come back to kill her and was taking the form of a woman.

"I'll be taking your future husband with me, princess," Artemis said, casting light around Alexander to send him back to the forest.

"My friend please," Alexander begged her before disappearing into thin air. He couldn't leave Leon alone after unintentionally dragging him into this.

"You owe me," said Artemis. Just this one time, she sent light to Leon to bring him to the forest.

In a blink of an eye, Leon and Alexander were no longer in the room, startling everyone left.
