When It Comes to Love

Liana Harrington knew that the big, broody and never- smiling Helios Eaton was trouble, but she couldn't shake her fascination. Like moth to a flame. It was supposed to "look but don't touch". She'd see him during business meetings, look her fill and then move on. She didn't have time for troubles, especially considering her past. But what happens when that same big, broody and never-smiling man asks you out? What happens when the past she's running from finally catches up to her? Will she get burned? Cinderella moment

I was running around like a headless chicken trying to find the cute, stuffed dinosaur I've wrapped for Noah.

It was Saturday evening and the party was starting in two hours.

I finally found the gift on the bottom cabinet of the kitchen.

How did it even get here?

After setting the gift on the coffee table in the lounge, I trudged towards my room to get ready.

After a nice, hot shower, I dried my long brown hairs and applied makeup which only consisted of foundation, mascara, eyeliner and natural pink lipstick. If I tried anything more, I would look like a character from a horror movie. A bad one.

My dress was midnight blue,off-the-shoulders with lace on the shoulders and quarter length sleeves. The skirt was a flowy mess giving it a barbie-ish look. It was a gift from Mom for last Christmas but I was wearing it for the first time.

The dress complimented my fair complexion. It was a knee length dress so the rest of my legs were left bare. I wore silver heels and dropped my phone and some money in my silver clutch and I was good to go.

Setting the gift in the passenger's seat I revved the engine and took off.

Their big lawn was brimming with guests. Important looking men in suits and rich ladies in designer gowns were walking around or standing in clusters.

After putting my gift on the gift table, I approached Steve and Sophia. Noah was in Steve's arms looking around at the decoration. He was wearing a little black tux and his tufts of light brown hairs were styled in spikes. He was looking so damn cute.

I reached them and Sophia hugged me and Noah clapped his hands and extended his arms to me.

Laughing I took him in my arms and kissed his chubby cheeks wishing him happy birthday.

I was getting bored. It was a child's birthday party but it was brimming with stoic faced elders.

Noah was with his granny. I had nothing to do so I went towards the food table.

I was just picking up a delicious looking red velvet cupcake when a voice reached me.

"See, more beautiful every time". I sighed, recognizing the voice.

Either he was extra chivalrous or just a plain flirt.

I rotated my neck and saw Caleb approaching me with Mr. Eaton behind him.

These two are a pair.

Caleb was wearing a crisp white button up with beige pant and brown jacket while Mr. Eaton was in a dark blue striped three piece suit. He looked more handsome than a Armani model. Women around the lawn were looking at him in appreciation.

After a little small talk with Caleb ,he went towards the house to greet Steve and Sophia and now Mr.Eaton was standing in front of me.

I had to crane my neck to look at his face, thanks to my short height.

"You look beautiful", he said abruptly in his deep voice while his eyes were looking at my face with such intensity that a blush creeped to my cheeks.

Did this greek godish creature just compliment me?

I was speechless," Tha...Thank..you Mr. Eaton", I managed to utter out with difficulty.

"We are not doing business here. You can call me Helios''. He said.

" Okay Mr. Eaton", I said and cringed the next second, "I mean Helios. Okay Helios" I corrected myself and he chuckled.

I gaped at him. It was the first time I was seeing this man laughing even if it was just for a second. He had a cute dimple on his left stubbled cheek. If he was handsome before, he looked breathtaking now.

while I was trying to control my bewilderment, he said, "See you around, Liana", his eyes were bored into mine and he said my name as if tasting it. As cliché as it sounds. Then he went the opposite way and I was left standing there, trying to make sense of the past minute's event.

What just happened?

I started filling my plate with different dishes laid out on the table, all the while still thinking about what happened earlier.

"Woah there, are you preparing this for yourself?", Caleb's voice drifted towards me and took me out of my reverie.

"Umm...yes" I replied, confused.

"Wow! So you aren't one of those ladies who make a fuss about their food, about how oily they are and how many calories it contains?", Caleb rambled on and I laughed at his words.

"Seems like you have met a lot of the said type", I said amusedly.

"Well sadly yes", Caleb said with a fake sad face.

"Food is practically my first love".

"And still you are so...umm..shapely and you don't even have a double chin", he said while looking at me up and down.

"Don't check me out, pervert", I said scowling then added, " I just happen to have a fast metabolism". I shrugged.

"Tell me about yourself , Liana," Caleb said while leaning on the pillar.

I frowned, "there's nothing special about me".

"Come on, there has to be something. What about your hobbies?" He urged.

Why does he want to know about me?

My inner Sherlock Holmes surfaced but I shrugged it off.

"Ummm...I like to read and draw" I said then added, "and eat ofcourse. I love sleeping too" .

He laughed, "Interesting!", then he added thoughtfully, "When I asked this question,I thought you'd say 'I visit the spa and have my nails and hairs done and I watch makeup tutorials on YouTube when I'm free' " He said with a high pitched voice and I let out a laugh.

"Judgmental, aren't we?". I taunted "Guess I'm not that predictable".

"Yeah you're far from predictable", he said meaningfully and I scowled at him in confusion.

He just shook his head and smiled at me then strolled off to God knows where. I tried to grasp his meaning but couldn't come up with anything.

Not everything has to have double meanings, Lia.

My brain scolded me when my trust issues tried to make an appearance.

I shrugged, letting the matter go and joined everybody at the gift table.
