Felix woke to the sound of an alarm blaring in his left ear. Groaning, he dragged himself towards the source of the noise in a desperate attempt to shut it off, his fingers clumsily slapping the phone and dropping it on the floor.
"God damnit..", he muttered to himself. He painfully got himself out of bed, the phone still ringing from beneath his bed. He lay himself down on his side and began to fumble around for it, eventually finding it.
Felix collapsed back onto his bed, his gaze falling upon his desk. A picture frame sat upon it, containing the pictures of a loving couple holding hands with a small boy. They were overseas for business again, but when weren't they? They'd all but disappeared by the time he transitioned into high school. He was used to it now though, a life without his parents. Still laying down, Felix held the picture frame by the top and set it face down before letting out a heavy sigh.
He slid out of his bed and made his way to the bathroom. He didn't need the use of the mirror to know that he looked like shit, but doing so confirmed it. Switching on the tap, he washed his face, making sure he was actually awake. He looked up at the mirror, water still covering his face. His messy black hair dangled from his head, covering his eyes. After drying his face, he set to work. With the help of a comb and some water, he manages to straighten it out, leaving it evenly parted right down the centre.
As soon as he left the bathroom, his phone buzzed. It was a message from the school.
"Hello Felix, at the start of first period please proceed to the staff room so we can finalise some details and help you get settled in at your new school."
Felix rolled his eyes and threw his phone back on his bed.
New school huh? It definitely wouldn't feel like it. Everyone from his old middle school would be there, being the only high school for miles. He let out a long sigh, wondering if anyone back in middle school even remembered him anyway. Pretty unlikely, considering it has been four years since he had even seen any of them in person. Whatever, not like it mattered. He would have to introduce himself to everyone anyway.
Getting up, he opened up his closet and found his new school uniform waiting for him. A sky blue button up shirt accompanied by some grey trousers, complete with a tie and a belt. After getting dressed, he walked over to his front door, looked over his apartment one last time and left. The door slamming behind him.
