Chapter 6: Change of Plans

A new day dawned, bringing with it new hope. Victory Cupcakes was still in Lind’s loving hands, and business was up. The flow of customers through the dinging door was particularly high on the weekends.

Polly double-checked the numbers she had kept. Not in terms of foot-traffic through the door. She was in the kitchen and didn’t see them. The numbers she crunched that lovely, hopeful morning were based on the number of cupcakes she made, and how many were left at the end of the day.

She would count them when no one was looking. If they’d notice, no one had said anything. According to her calculations, they were selling double the number of cupcakes than the month before. It could put Lind in a better position to sell Victory Cupcakes as a going concern. At least then whoever took over would keep things the way they were. One of the very few advantages to the profit motive, was that it made those who were driven by it incredibly predictable.
