"So... that's it, isn't it?"

I could barely look at Hailey without exposing the blue bruise by my right cheek so I nodded, head low.

"You just got the papers and David signed them?" She held out the scrunched up paper, waving it back and forth.

We were seated in the living room, with both of us sitting in our collective sides of the three seater.

She had her left leg propped against the table and her crutches lay uselessly on the ground.

The TV was playing but the sounds were drowned out in the background.

"I didn't think my day could get any worse." I sighed, remembering how I got detention because of those idiotic boys.

The weekend just started and even though I wished it was a great one.

It wasn't.

Hailey shifted her posture, wincing slightly when she tried to lift her leg.

I glared daggers at the bandaged ankle, seething at how Travis managed to escape.
