Isn’t This Supposed to Be A Mock Car Crash

"Angela, come on we have to go," Shawn yelled from the living room, "at this rate we're going to get there while the students are watching the video."

"I'm almost done," I yelled back to my friend who was a year above me compared to the two alumni that were participating in this. We are heading to school to do a mock car crash presentation. It's supposed to be a mock bus crash where the car that Shawn, Elise, and Kylie were in a car, distracting a bus full of students. I finished doing my hair and walked out of my room to see Shawn sitting on the couch bouncing his leg in irritation and anticipation. "I'm ready to go!"

"About time," he began as he shot up from the couch, "come on, Elise is waiting for us."

"Am I close enough for the video so the makeup artists don't yell at me for not looking like it?"

Shawn smiled as he looked me up and down, I was wearing a blue crop top with a leather jacket and some jeans with my dark hair done in braids. "You look just as cute and punky."

I smiled once he finished, I was supposed to be one of the punk kids in the crash but I would also look nerdy thanks to my glasses. The video that the students would see would be us getting in our vehicles to go to our separate destinations. The bus that I would've been in would be heading to a college tour field trip while the care that Shawn was driving in with our alumni friend, Elise, and Kylie, were heading to a club slightly buzzed. After the video, the students would exit the building and head down the street either by a bus supplied by the school or by their cars to see how the events would unravel. Soon enough we picked up Elise who looked to be in a hurry

"Who took the longest," she asked once she got into the car and we started heading over to the school

I sighed, "That would be me," I said as I raised my hand and Shawn pointed at me

"Understandable," was all Elise said before Shawn started complaining

"How is that understandable we were almost late," he asked as I chuckled

"You haven't been in any shows where you have to look exactly like you did the day before," she began as we turned onto one of the busiest states in town. "The makeup artists complain about every little flaw that you have when you don't look the same."

Shawn sighed as we pulled into the parking lot for the school, "Fine."

Once we walked into the school I was attacked by Kylie who I haven't seen since her and Elise's graduation. "Hey there stranger," I chuckled as she hugged me

"We need to hang out more," she said as she hugged me

"That we do," I said as I looked at the people around me, "that's right I'm the one who's in charge," I muttered as I noticed they were all looking at me. "Are all you ready," with nods and fist-pumped into the air I smiled, "let's get bloodied."

Since most of the classes were still in session today we were getting ready in two of the locker rooms that weren't used during the day along with the dressing rooms backstage. I looked around as I saw some people dressed in tattered versions of their clothes and getting fake blood and scratches all over them. I then looked at the makeup artist that I was walking towards.

"Looks like you're ready," she began while adjusting my braids so they were a little messier and the fake glass poked around more. My glasses were supposed to break with the impact and mix with the glass of the windows of the bus since it would end up going off-road and rolling into a nearby field taking Shawn's car with it.

I nodded, "What other magic are you going to work on me, ma'am?"

The makeup artist smiled, "Can you see without your glasses," she asked me as she got out a contact case.

"Just as long as nobody covers my right eye I'm good," I said with a smile as she handed me the case

She smiled, "These won't impair your vision whatsoever but the cover will so please put the left contact in and come back."

I nodded before walking over to the bathroom where an open mirror was, there I saw Kylie who looked like she was putting the similar contacts on. "Hey Ky," I said as I approached the mirror next to her. I jumped once she looked over, she had the contacts in both of her eyes and they contrast creepily with the fire-hydrant red hair that she died last week.

"Hey there Ang," she said with a grin, "aren't these awesome?"

"Yeah," I began tentatively as I removed the cap from the left contact case and put the contact on my eye, "Woah."

"Told you," she said from the distance as I put my glasses back on and examined the room covered in the color of the blood-red contact before going back to the makeup artist.

"I see that you're liking that as much as your friend," she said with a chuckle once I approached with a grin. "Take your glasses off and give them to me so they'll be in safe hands," she said as I did as I took them off and gave them to her. "Now sit here so I can finish your makeup, you're going to have a lot of cuts so it's going to take a bit."

When she said that I nodded with a grin thinking that it would be nothing if I sat still. But I was wrong, these special effects makeup artists seemed to have come from Hollywood before I knew it. I was covered in fake paste-like blood that was supposed to look like burned flesh and a disembodied limp. I smiled in the mirror and even my teeth were red with the fake blood around my mouth since my nose was supposed to be cut off. In the video, I would be seated on the front of the bus giving the finger to Shawn's car who was insulting the bus driver who had his window open yelling at them to stay in their lane. A semi would come up the street as I stood up causing the driver to jerk his wheel toward Shawn's car and that's where the video would cut off. In the mock crash, I would be tossed from the bus lying face-down in the grass with a combination from the glass of the windows and my glasses piercing my eye. I would die right when I hit the ground where what was left of my nose would be crushed.

I jogged over to the bus that would take us to our mocking deaths and sat next to Kylie who had the eyepatches on both of her eyes since she wouldn't be wearing a seat belt in Shawn's car. "How are you feeling," I asked once I sat down and his head snapped in my direction causing me to freeze. "Now that's scary," I said with a smirk. She had blood all over her face along with fake glass shards that would've come from the windshield of the car. She would end up landing a few feet next to me. That safety precaution would be if it started raining or some of the students were getting rowdy and started throwing things at us.

"It's weird not seeing anything," she said as I continued to smile, "could you lead me to my spot once we get there?"

"Yep," I nodded as I heard two people snickering in the seat behind us

"You two would look so cute together," Shawn said as I snapped my head towards his voice since it sounded from the left and I could see him. "Woah," he started, "that is hella creepy."

Since he was the driver he only had a gash on his forehead from the steering wheel along with some cuts. He would be the only one to survive the crash committing suicide a year later due to the guilt. "Shut up or that'll haunt your dreams," I said as Elise took a picture, "Could you send that to me El?"

"You got it," she said with a smirk, "I'm sending you all the pics that I took for this so you can send them to whoever wants to post this."

I smiled, "Thanks," I said as Shawn sat up

"I've had some time to think about this," he began as I widened my right eye

"That's scary," Kylie said and I snorted

"No, you're scary, have you looked in a mirror," he shot back as I smiled

"To the point Shawn," I said as I glanced back at Kylie who was grinning

"If this happened," he began, "same results and everything, it would have the same result with me killing myself."

"Bet you wouldn't," a voice yelled from the back of the bus

"You dare doubt me," Shawn said standing up just as Elise stood up to stop him, even though the glass is fake it would still hurt like normal glass if someone was hit with it.

But I didn't get to see what Shawn would do because the next thing I knew there was a horn honking and then darkness as I felt myself being thrown out of my seat.

THIRD PERSON P.O.V

The bus rolled over three times before stopping at the edge of a bridge throwing bodies out of its windows as if it was confetti. The semi that hit the bus hurriedly climbed out of the truck holding a tissue to his nose while he dialed the police as he walked to survey the scene before him. As the operator picked up he crouched in front of a girl who was laying on the concrete facing the air. She would've been looking up at the sky if it wasn't for the patches of glass on her eyes. Kylie was sprawled out on the ground with no blood coming out of her body which horrified the truck driver who hesitantly checked for a pulse. As he tells the operator where he was, we see the rushing waters of the lake turn pink as an arm floats aimlessly down the river from Shawn. Most of the blood was coming from the disembodied arm, poked out the eye, and the large gash on Elise's forehead. He looked around the mess as he asked the operator what he could do to help while he waited

"Could you line up the bodies by the bus as best as you can so there won't be as much struggle to get kids who could survive," she asked as the man sighed

"Yes, I can," he said as he continued to walk around the bus before hanging up the phone and sighing once more. He jumped once he heard a voice come from the bus

"Is there anyone out there," Angela's voice called out, "can someone help me out of here? Elise, Kylie, Shawn?"

Quickly the man scaled the bus to peak into it through the broken shards of glass, "You're alive," he said in shock almost falling off his perch as he saw the girl bruised bloodied and missing a nose as well as an eye.

The girl looked up and smiled as her one eye filled up with hope, "Sir," she began, "could you help me out of here so I can see if my friends are okay? There were some walking down to the bus while another was sitting next to me and I can't see them."

Silently the man nodded as he removed the body on top of her and unhooked her arm from the seat that she was hanging from. "I thought you were dead like all of the other people here," he said after he helped her climb out with the body. "You have both of your eyes," he asked as she took the cover off of her left eye

"Yeah," she began as he watched her take a contact out of her eye, "why?"

"I just checked the pulse of the girl over there, her eyes were all bloodied but there wasn't any blood coming from her body," he said as he nodded over to the body that he left not too long ago.

"Kylie," the girl breathed before rushing over to the body, ripping a similar cover off of the eyes. "We were heading to a mock crash that's supposed to be down the street from here," she began as she took her hair out of the braids glass falling out of it as she put it into a ponytail grimacing at the pain in her arm. "My name is Angela, I'm a junior at the school just south of here," she continued as she peeled away some makeup off of her nose. "Many of the people that you will see will have this kind of makeup," she said as she stood up then looked around the area as she walked to the bus and hit her shoulder against it. "Have you seen a tall blonde body anywhere in the area along with a girl with platinum blonde hair? They were out of their seats when something hit us."

Angela failed to notice the man's shoulders sag once she mentioned it, "I'm sorry," the truck driver said

"What for," she asked as she walked around scanning the scene before picking a boy up by the shoulders and dragged him next to the redhead. "You didn't do anything wrong."

"I was the one who hit you," the driver began as he heaved the body a few feet away from him to the same line as her friend. "I was driving a semi; I wasn't paying attention to where I was going and hit you. I'm sorry if I killed all of your friends in this," he finished as he set the kid down on the ground

"I forgive you," Angela said as the man's head snapped up, "could you please help me collect the bodies around here? If we start working now we may be able to save some of the people that were on that bus with me."

The man nodded walking to the bridge just as a voice came to his and Angela's ears. "Ang."

Their heads snapped over to look at Katie who was trying to get up, "Don't get up Kat," Angela began rushing to her friend's side. "You were thrown from the bus, stay there so you don't injure yourself even more."

"Okay, where are you going? Where's Elise and Shawn," she asked as Angela looked around, "why does everything hurt?"

"I'm going to collect as many bodies as I can while looking for them," she answered. "I took the eyepatches off so you could see just please sit still, if I can only save one friend then I will."

"All right," Katie said, "who's going to help you?"

"The semi driver who called the ambulances and police will help me," she answered as the driver stood there. "We're going to try and get as many bodies as possible before the paramedics come."

"Okay," Katie said, "go save some people."

"I ship it," the driver said with a smirk, "the name's Mike by the way," he added sticking out his hand

Angela shook it, "You are just like a high school student," she said with a smile, "let's save some people."

Mike nodded as he ran over to the nearest body and Angela ran to the edge of the bridge. He rushed over to the edge of the bridge once he heard Angela call his name, "What's up," he asked then gasped once he saw Elise and Shawn

"Mike," she said, snapping him out of his trance as he looked to see her already in the river grabbing the girl. "Grab the man," she began, "fair warning I think he's bloodier than everyone here."

Mike nodded before he scaled down the rocks picking his way to the boy's body.

ANGELA'S P.O.V

I huffed as I carried Elise's body up the incline with my shoulder yelling in protest. It was probably dislocated but I wasn't going to let that stop me, my heart broke once I saw the blood gushing out of Shawn's eye but I kept going.

"Is that," Kylie asked under the breath as I put Elise's body next to her making sure she didn't see the gash on our friends head

"Yes it is Elise," I said as I checked her pulse, "Her pulse is weak but I'm pretty sure she'll pull through."

As I finished I heard Mike curse, "You didn't tell me this kid was heavy and bleeding this much," he said as I turned to see him carrying Shawn. His limbs were bent in all sorts of directions that Mike had to fireman carry him which made Angela notice that her senior friend was missing an arm.

"Put him next to the kids over there out of sight of Kylie," I said pointing to the far end of the row of bodies. "I didn't know how bloody he'd be."

"I wish this didn't happen," Kylie said with a sigh

"Me too," I said as I made it to Shawn's body to check his pulse, the same as Elise's but I wasn't going to tell Kylie. "Paramedics are on their way, we'll get through this," I said, giving Kylie a wink before I went back to work. Soon after that, I heard sirens off in the distance, "They're here," I yelled to Mike who was down the line of bodies that we collected outside, and from inside of the bus many of them were dead.

As soon as the vehicles stopped my arm throbbed in pain a little more as a paramedic stepped out. "Who was the one who ran into the bus," she asked as she looked at me

I glanced at Mike whose shoulders sagged, "That would be me," he said as the paramedic nodded

"Go over there to the police officers and tell the story," she ordered as he nodded walking away then she turned to me as I cradled my arm. "What were you doing during this,"

I sighed, "I was in the bus that he ran into," I answered

"Can you tell me what happened and where you were heading," she asked, pulling out a notepad as I noticed she was more of a detective than a paramedic.

I sighed once more as I began telling her everything about the mock crash that we were supposed to head to.

One year later

I sighed as I sat on the chair in the school looking at the scar on my wrist, I had more injuries than the dislocated arm. Some of the fake glass had buried into my skin with some help of the real glass, luckily it wasn't near any of my vital organs so I wasn't in danger of dying that day.

"Hey, Ang," Kylie's soft voice said from the doorway, she and I were the only ones who survived the crash. If I hadn't stopped her from standing up she would've fallen back to the ground dead at Mike and I's feet. As for Mike, the grief took over him and he committed suicide, "Are you ready?"

My lips thinned into a line as I took one last look of the picture Elise took of Kylie and me before the crash. "Yeah," I said, "let's get this over with."

Kylie smiled as I walked up to her, as I made it up to her she thread her fingers through mine. "If you want I can tell the story," she said as I looked into jade green eyes that were darker with sorrow

I shook my head, "No," I began, "for two reasons; the first being I was the one in charge of getting the event organized. The second is that I was conscious and moving for all of it so I would know most of what happened."

She nodded before rising and kissing me on the cheek, "Then go ahead oh fearless leader," she said as I smiled looking at the backstage doors

"Could you accompany me," I asked and she nodded as she walked on holding a cane in one hand while she held my hand in the other. "I wonder what Elise and Shawn are thinking about this now," I said as she chuckled

"They're probably snickering about this," she said as I looked out into the auditorium after the announcement was made for students to come in. Pretty soon standing room was the only thing that remained to hear the story of a senior and alumni getting into a crash where only they survived. "You got this," Kylie said squeezing my hand

"I just haven't seen this auditorium so full," I said breathlessly

"I have multiple times," she began but was interrupted by our names being called, "I'll tell you them later."

I smiled as we made it onto the stage and I stood in front of the podium, "Good evening everybody," I said with a sigh. "My name is Angela I was the person who was in charge of planning the mock accident that many of you watched the video for. The mock accident that turned real but not sticking to the full story from that video," I sighed, "I remember it like it was yesterday, Elise's snicker and Shawn's goofy grin as he went to go teach someone mocking him a lesson. I didn't see the lesson because the next thing I knew I was hanging by my arm with a mix of fake and real glass shards all over me and the body that kept me from falling."

They let me tell the story well past that period and well into the next, I soon found out that it was broadcasted throughout the school's speakers as the students made their way to classes. They wanted this story to be heard, they wanted the students to know the lesson about distracted driving.

And they did
