Chapter 73

“I’ll be back soon.” Jojo grabbed the briefcase, passport in hand as he walked in. He continued to text Mateo as the travel agent purchased his tickets. Ordinarily he would have bought his tickets online, but he had to make stops at the bank, at the phone store, which took the longest, the travel agency, and then Mateo, before Jojo hit the airport.

As soon he received the tickets, Jojo headed back to the SUV and Erwin.

“We’re good for St. John Bosco.” Jojo checked the contents of the briefcase. He had cash for Mateo and several checks.

It didn’t take them long, since the church was two blocks away. Jojo waited in the back seat and texted Mateo. Five minutes had passed, and still no sign of him. He worried now that Mateo tipped off his mother, or worse, his father. He straightened when Mateo approached the SUV.

Jojo opened the door and slid over to the other side. “Thanks for meeting me here.”

“Yeah, I’m a little surprised that you wanted to talk to me.”
