“He’s including you in this barkada.”
Pete nodded. “Yeah, you told me. So we’re like the group of friends who know you and he are sort of dating, and it might lead to real dating, but we’re supposed to act like it’s not going on.”
“Does this sound crazy?”
“Yes and no. I mean, imagine being in his shoes. He’s got a lot to lose. You? You leave in six months, out of the Marines, out of the military. He’s left behind to handle any damage if anything bad happens.”
“Yeah, I guess since you put it that way.” Adam sighed. “I should be more understanding.”
“You are going to see him again? I hope so because we’re not getting into the Manila Polo Club without Jojo. Roger’s from the tiny middle class of the Philippines. It’s Jojo who gets us in to the Polo Club, not Roger.”
“I think we’re supposed to meet up for lunch at his job. At least that’s what I got when we were walking on Roxas.”
