Under his spell

Charm looked behind her and the blood drinker was gone.

She stopped running and turned around to stare.

There were no tracks left by him in the dirt.

The stench that she associated with the creature no longer polluted the air.

Puzzled, she retraced her steps back to where the dead body of the boy lay cold and inert on the ground.

He was definitely gone.

It was as if the creature had vanished into thin air.

Cursing herself, since there was nothing she could do for the boy besides bury him she thought about heading back to the cave and getting a shovel.

Well, the young man was not wearing the typical white jumpsuit that would identify him as being one of them from the warship.

The boy's body was also covered with raised tattoos and tribal markings that made Charm think that he was native to the area.

Then it occurred to her that he may have friends and family that might come looking for him.

Perhaps, it was best to leave the body there to be recovered so that he could receive a proper burial.

"A lovely human like you should never interrupt a demon's dinner," a voice whispered from behind her.

He was so close, she could feel his body heat and smell his foul breath.

Charm stiffened, she had let her guard down, was the demon toying with her?

Turning to put some space in between them, she stopped dead in her traps when she saw that her admirer was wearing Brendan's face.

Did that mean that Brendan was dead?

The demon had managed to copy Brendan's features to perfection.

His chiseled jaw and blonde hair but the demon forgot to mask those evil black eyes that were devoid of pupils.

"Is this face your type?" he asked coyly.

Smiling with those white lovely squared teeth of Brendan's that never needed braces.

She flashed her own smile right back at him.

Charm was going to make him pay for the death of her crush.

Not her usual style but Charm fluttered her eyes at him flirtatiously like she remembered Kat doing whenever she was around Brendan.

The silly move worked and the demon relaxed thinking Charm was captivated by him and under his spell.

Feeling emboldened, Charm took it a step further and tilted her head to the side.

Brushing off a tendril of her hair that left her neck exposed to the predator.

He fell for it hook, line and sinker. His eyes followed the intimate movement and he managed to lick Brendan's lips and make his depravity look sexy.

"Normally I don't play with my food but you're a bold one," he grinned, "what's your name?"

"It's Charmaine but all my friends call me Charm," this kind of conversation about her nickname she was used to and it put her at ease.

The demon leaned in closer, his breath now tickled her ear lobe, "such an unusual name but it suits you."

"Thanks," Charm replied with a friendly smile while waving him off, "it's getting late and I need to go home, my friends are probably searching for me as we speak."

Today must be his lucky day.

He was ready to feast. The demon asked slyly, "Are there more of you humans around here?"

Charm didn't respond, instead she started to walk faster.

That's when he transformed to show his true form, the demon had wings!

His black eyes now glowed red, filled with hunger and bloodlust.

That menacing, twisted smile of his when he was draining the young lad of his blood was now etched smugly on his face.

She watched as he leapt over her dramatically causing Charm to stumble into him which amused him greatly.

Huge black wings that matched his beady black eyes and spanned the breadth of his shoulders.

The wings gave the appearance of black leather but instead were soft and silky to touch.

Just like butterfly wings it gave off a kind of black dust when her fingers brush against his wings.

The feel of the dust made her skin crawl and she fought the urge to vomit.

Charm still had the dagger in her pocket.

She didn't have to act, she was truly scared of the monster facing her, she let out a soft cry.

The wings looked thin and reminded her of a black garbage bag.

Surely with her knife she could do some damage and Charm imagined slashing his wings apart with the dagger and it filled her with confidence.

No more would Charm depend on others to fight her battle.

The biggest mistake this demon could make was underestimating her and the damnable creature would pay for it dearly with his life.

Her rage brought her spirit power to the surface of her palms.

Then she whipped out her dagger and slashed at his wings.

Spurred on by his outrage, she wanted to gloat when the blood drinker let out a loud guttural snarl indistinguishable from the sounds of pain he felt.

One swift, jagged wide slash for each wing, she went about it indiscriminately.

She wanted to rip the wings off his back and she delighted in his misery.

"How many humans have you devoured in your existence," she yelled out. "You deserve this and more."

Her speed and movements increased as her rage built.

It was like a dam deep within her had burst and she was taking it out on the demon.

She kept attacking him with the dagger, forcing him to back away from her slowly.

Charm continuously charged at him, causing him to bleed as she slashed at his neck.

Attempted to slit open his stomach, stabbed his hand when he tried to block her savagery.

No one had taught her a proper technique to use the dagger.

Fuelled by rage she was butchering him by instinct.

She didn't stop wielding the deadly dagger until he crumpled to the ground.

His face was in shock as he never imagined the human girl could manipulate such immense spirit power or he would have easily overtaken her.

As the demon lay dying, it dawned on him that his compulsion did not work on this human girl either.

Too bad he was gravely injured from his previous battle with those spirit warriors in training or his life would not have been snuffed out so easily.

With the last of his strength, he sent a telepathic message to his master, warning him of this new breed of ferocious humans.

Ashamed the demon apologized to his master for dying an undignified death at the hand of a measly young girl.

The last image the young demon sent to his master was that of the teenaged girl staring down at him as she twisted the dagger into his rapidly beating demon heart.

Charm did not stop until the red glow faded from his eyes and he no longer twitched on the ground.

She pulled out the knife, wiped off his dark blood on a rag she found in his pocket.

Then she made his cloak hers, since it was of good quality.

Charm never looked back as she made her way back to the cave.
