Episode(18): Boss fight(4)

SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(18)

The Kanata style martial arts had three forms. All three were terrifying deadly martial arts that if not used properly could cause serious recoil on the user and they would just end up self-destructing during a battle.

The main reason Nagisa had to train ever since he was a young child wasn't merely to deepen his knowledge or to absorb the information better. No, it was to build a body suitable for the Kanata style martial arts.

Children absorb information better than adults and it was the same for the human body as well.

Beat it into your bones and fundamentally it will become a part of your very existence until your end.

One of these forms is called flow. It's the mainly used part of fighting that had become almost a passive part of Nagisa's fighting style. This form uses weakness's and gap to redirect the flow of attacks and land stronger counters.

It was basically just precisely taking advantage of all the mistakes of your enemy and using their momentum for a stronger attack. However to make this work you had to accurately strike their weak points.

It was a usually hard aspect, however for Nagisa who grew up training in this form and with his current perception it was as if he was reborn.

The neck, eyes, ears, heart, knees, heel.

It didn't matter where, Nagisa could see a complete representation of his enemy and all their weakness's.

Sharp claws tore through the air at Nagisa. Nagisa noticed the attack and quickly reacted shuffling away with all his might as the attack barely missed tearing him to shreds.

Unlike before however, Nagisa didn't completely retreat. The wolf saw this and sneered inwardly as it clawed at him again but Nagisa's next action surprised it.

He completely disregarded the attack and got closer before he leapt while grabbing the thick arm of the wolf. It was stunned but it couldn't react allowing Nagisa to do as he pleased.

With as wild twist, Nagisa hugged the arm tightly completely twisting the arm out of socket. Blood spurted from the twisted arm that looked about to be wrenched off completely and the wolf shrieked in horror.

Still, Nagisa didn't give the wolf any breathing room at all. He hooked his leg around its neck and spun flipping the wolf over on its back.

Nagisa glanced at the wolf and prepared to attack but felt something behind him at that moment. Through perception he could already sense the presence of the shadow wolf, but he was calm.

Thanks to its constant annoyance during the battle, Nagisa had gained deeper understanding in the use of 'awareness' and his perception reached a whole new level during the battle.

Although there were no level up notifications, Nagisa knew it was only because he was in the boss room.

Either way, Nagisa already read the flow of its mana and predicted that it would attack from behind again.

The wolf's happy expression turned to shock when its attack missed, but the next second its face was pale. Nagisa's elbow struck the wolf in its neck making it gasp for air as it took some steps back in retreat.

But Nagisa was too annoyed to grant it a time of rest. The shadow wolf contributed to his growth but it annoyed him without end so it was time to end him.

Nagisa moved with quick and flowing steps as his body blurred slightly, then all of a sudden he completely vanished. The shadow wolf was in horror since it couldn't even hear Nagisa's footsteps and he was like a ghost.

The wolf could only look around in different directions, but alas there was nothing. Finally, there was a hand gripping its shoulder tightly. But before it could make a move, Nagisa firmly gripped its neck in a choke hold. He only exerted a bit of force before a snap clicked through the air and its huge body fell down without any hint of resistance.

Nagisa glanced down coldly. After a while he smiled to the moonlit sky with his arms outstretched and an expression of satisfaction.

[Finally the nuisance is dead]

He almost felt like crying but recalling that this was still a battle he held himself back.

'Hm?'

Nagisa suddenly felt an attack. He didn't even think twice before grabbing the shadow wolf's corpse and using it as a shield.

Respect for the dead?

That was only something a victor could say. Nagisa had yet to win and more importantly he didn't see a reason to respect the corpse of a man eating monster.

Nagisa took the attacks with his 'shield' before he realized that the corpse wouldn't hold out any longer under the barrage of fire balls. Thinking it was a pity, he threw the corpse to the side and ran out towards his attacker.

Before he could even close the distance, Nagisa felt an ominous feeling and hurriedly jumped away abandoning his earlier actions.

Ngh!?

Even though he jumped as quickly as he could, some shards of earth still stabbed through his arm as Nagisa fell on his back and rolled. He didn't get up immediately and used the momentum to roll away before getting back to his feet again.

'Earth spikes?!'

Nagisa saw the spikes protruding from the ground shrink before vanishing and once again felt chills. He reacted faster this time and sure enough, earth spikes came out of nowhere again and nearly punched several holes through him.

Nagisa turned and ran while he drew his sword. At the same time earth spikes shot through the opening of the trees at several different angles making it hard for him to determine the attacker's location. Nagisa could only deflect the earth stakes flying through the air while avoiding the earth spikes that randomly appeared.

Soon however, Nagisa was both attacked from the flying earth stakes and protruding earth spike. He clicked his tongue in annoyance. 

[Tch, guess no more playing around]

He hadn't even fought the boss yet and had to be wasting so much energy. Dissatisfaction was written all over his face but it couldn't be helped.

Nagisa activated his perception circulating his mana to its limits. As the surges of his mana spread out his awareness, everywhere around him could be seen in detail.

Nagisa omitted all the useless data and analyzed the mana traces of the earth magic then traced it back to its source.

In just a few minutes Nagisa found the location of the wolf and prepared to attack, but before he could a wolf jumped out of the space between the trees. Nagisa had no choice but to turn and clash with the wolf.

He wanted to counter and kill the wolf, but all of a sudden Nagisa lost his balance. The wolf then tore through his guard and sent him flying with another claw.

At that moment another wolf appeared from the side and with a single strike it sent him flying like a ragdoll that was thrown in a heap. He crashed through several trees and before he could come to a stop the wolf appeared above him and slashed down. 

Blades of mana from the slash tore through the air towards Nagisa at an unprecedented speed. Nagisa gritted his teeth. He wouldn't take this attack even if he was paid a billion and coaxed by an expert salesman.

For one, his armor was already destroyed so how would he dare? Nagisa forcefully twisted his body after grabbing the trunk of a tree. Thanks to this he spun wildly but he also managed to evade the attack.

Nagisa felt like his world was spinning. It was as if he'd just come out of a washing machine. But he forcefully quelled his nausea and stabilized his body. At the very moment he landed, his figure vanished and he appeared before the wolf releasing a barrage of revenge attacks with his sword.

Each stroke of the sword had a tricky trajectory leaving the wolf with no space to evade. It could only block like its life depended on it.

Soon however, the accumulated damage was too much for it to bear and it attacked in rage and anxiety.

Nagisa saw its movements in his eyes. He sneered and moved slightly causing the attack to miss. He then grabbed the wolf's wrist and stabbed his sword through the wolfs' arm.

The wolf shrieked in pain and tried to retreat.

Before it could even move however, Nagisa drew his sword out of the wolfs arm and stabbed it through its throat.

[fools!!]

The wolf king could no longer quietly watched as its subordinates got slaughtered. Hearing their king's voice, all the wolf generals looked over. Even Nagisa looked over in curiosity.

[You can't even manage to take on a single human! What use are you all if you just go and die!? At least take and eye, and arm for crying out loud…. DONT JUST DIE YOU CLOWNS!!!]

Nagisa wiped the beads of sweat running down his face with a smug smile. Of course he was exhausted. He might have a mana recovery skill but what about his stamina? At the least he could say he wouldn't be able to get out of bed tomorrow morning.

Even so, it paid well to see the wolf king so flustered.

At any rate, playing the long game didn't seem to be a path to victory. Rather, no matter how much mana recovery he had if his body gave out he'd be dead meat.

Right, he had played this game way too long and it was already time for the finale.

Nagisa wanted to rush up and challenge to king but recalling the barrier it used in the first half he gave up. He only took a closer look and noticed that the throne was emitting a glowing light, that meant the throne was an artifact and so long as it sat there he could do nothing to it.

Nagisa had no choice but to completely clear the plate before waiting for the boss to make a move. Then he would move to destroy the throne so no matter what it couldn't take refuge there during the fight.

[That only leaves….]

Nagisa grinned as he turned towards the remaining wolves. His expression was eerie and filled with killing intent.

He drew out his ice katana all while holding his bone katana in his left hand. The two swords were in contrast but the bone chilling feeling of death they gave off was too oppressive.

Nagisa poured his mana into the swords and for the first time he felt their enhancement effects taking effect. Instantly, Nagisa felt a surge of strength rush through him and he felt several times stronger than ever.

He laughed wildly shaking with excitement before the next moment he leaned forward and vanished leaving nothing but a gust of wind.

The boss also noticed this sudden surge of strength and howled at its subordinates but it was too late.

Nagisa moved the wolf slayer in his left hand destroying its ice defense with a single stroke. At the same time he twisted his body. The ice wolf reacted just a beat later throwing its attack to the front but Nagisa had already twisted away.

He raised his wolf slayer from the side and brought it down. Along with it, a spray of blood covered the forest ground and the wolf shrieked. Along with its crazy shriek, meteoric ice shards bombarded the area causing Nagisa to unwillingly retreat.

At the same time, flames wildly erupted behind Nagisa. Feeling the searing heat Nagisa knew not to let this attack hit and he twisted his body through the air skillfully like a bird in its territory. 

He faced the red wolf as it looked at him with shock.

The next moment Nagisa landed and bent his knees.

Shu!*

With a steak of light, the wolf could only see Nagisa twisting his body as he landed far behind it and its entire left shoulder had been cleanly cleaved off leaving nothing but the spurting of blood.

It immediately lost focus and the mana in its body stopped circulating as the wolf wailed.

Nagisa took complete advantage of this situation severing its neck with his ice sword before it could regain its calm and attack him once more.

Its head hovered silently before falling following the thud of its body.

Now there were only two wolfs remaining. The ice wolf and the earth wolf. 

Nagisa released a breath before he began moving again.

Along the way, he placed his wolf slayer in its sheath and just moved with his ice sword.

He wanted to use the sword to its fullest so he would be aware what it was capable of in the future battles.

Nagisa gripped the hilt tightly with a smile and sped up his run.

Fuu

Nagisa regulated his breathing all while sensing his surroundings and marking his two remaining opponents.

Since he was using the ice sword now it would be too redundant to use it against the ice wolf, instead he charged towards the earth wolf.

*Gash*

The earth wolf was still kneeling while its hands were on the ground searching for Nagisa when all of a sudden it looked up. Shock filled its eyes as it moved aside in a hurry but a large amount of blood spurted from its wound the moment the sword made contact and drew across its chest.

At the same time, the ice wolf skated along a road of ice sneaking up behind Nagisa and prepared to attack. But it was at that moment that he crouched under its attack and turn slightly slamming the hilt of the sword under its chin.

The earth wolf tried to grab Nagisa the moment he turned his back towards it. In fact, Nagisa already knew it would do this but he wasn't worried.

In the very next moment, before the wolf could grab Nagisa, it was turned into an ice sculpture from head to toe.

This was the 'freeze' status that the sword cause when it tore flesh and came in contact with an opponent's blood.

Nagisa didn't even pay attention to the frozen wolf. Instead, he kicked the ice wolf's foot from under itself making it fall forward.

The ice wolf flailed in an attempt to grab something, but Nagisa stepped aside and turned to the left before he drew his wolf slayer with his right hand and severed its head cleanly from its body.

At that moment, a huge shadow loomed over Nagisa making him confused. Just as he was about to wonder who messed with the lights, he saw a huge golem the moment he turned around.

For a moment he was stunned, however as he recalled the earth wolf's power he nodded. He was only stunned that it managed to create that big a golem while being frozen.

Meanwhile, the golem bellowed to the sky. Its roar was like a dragon as the entire forest shook with heavy force. Nagisa looked at this sight with wonder and excitement.

Just them, the golem looked down and slammed its fist towards Nagisa.

Nagisa leapt through the air before he generated mana in his feet and dashed around the forest. He generated as much speed as he could before he leapt up leaping to the height of the huge giant.

Looking from afar the human looking like nothing but an ant facing an elephant. But Nagisa was filled with excitement as he thought about slaying giants with his sword.

The golem hurriedly threw a fist at Nagisa when it saw him evading his strike and charging at itself.

Seeing the fist big enough to blot out the sky, Nagisa rotated using the force it generated and severed its arm with a huge slash of his magic power.

He then stabbed the sword into the golems chest to keep himself from falling as he thought of a way to end it. 

[Normally in games and manga you would have a gemstone that would have to be destroyed]

He thought about it but couldn't see a crystal anywhere. Nagisa shrugged, he couldn't be bothered with all this thinking so he'd just cleave the whole damn thing apart!

Using the sword, he flung himself up to the height of the giants head. All the while a powerful surge of magical power came from his body. Nagisa raised the sword high before he could fall and drew it down.

This single stoke caused the energy in his body to release as everything in the path of his strike was split in half. The golem couldn't even react before it was split in two.

[Now there's only....one left]

The earth wolf growled helplessly as it saw the scene and gave Nagisa a look of hatred. Nagisa shrugged like it had nothing to do with him. He held wolf slayer firmly in his grasp then he stomped heavily on the ground. 

At his feet, the ground shattered like glass meanwhile Nagisa threw the ice sword straight towards the earth wolf.

At the same time, the freeze status had begun to deactivate and the wolf tried to move out of the way. However Nagisa acted too quickly and the sword stabbed through its chest before the earth wall it summoned could form properly. 

The freeze status started taking effect from the inside this time and the wolf swayed feeling its insides freeze slowly.

It tried to grab the sword but as it did its hands begun to freeze. There was no one aside from Nagisa who could wield his swords and if anyone else tried they would simply be asking for death.

Nagisa quickly closed the distance in that moment and severed the wolf's head from its body before he drew his ice sword out and pointed it at the wolf king.

[Let's not waste time and get to spilling blood now shall we?]

The real fight had just begun.
