Nathaniel p.o.v
I drove over to 101 ocean, an elite restaurant that common people can only dream of. It was a high-class hotel and my reasons for going there were not to socialize.
The work that I needed to start today is what is driving me to the hotel. I am meeting an old acquaintance from the Marikan. He is bringing me all the information that I need to start the work that I have planned.
I parked in front of the restaurant and waited. I rested my head on the staring wheel feeling a little sleepy. I had barely got an ounce of sleep last night due to all the howling of the werewolves.
With my eyes closed, I couldn't help but think of the past that haunts me day and night. The screams and cries from that fateful night echoing in my ear and my helplessness was evident in my pleas.
The night that I had lost everything dear to me. All in the hands of those cursed creatures.
"Save me," her innocent little voice screamed as she was being dragged away from the house to the woods.
The merciless red eyes that met my gaze froze me to the spot. I couldn't move to help her.
Tears flowed from my eyes as I watched the very person I vowed to protect get slaughtered by the werewolves. She was innocent and had done them no harm.
She was only twelve when they killed her, an innocent child who didn't deserve the harsh punishment they gave her.
A knock came from my window drawing me from the painful memories of the worst day of my life. I raised my head and realized that I had been crying, I dried my eyes and opened the car door to the passenger seat.
A man in a black suit entered the car with a small envelope in his hand.
"Hey Nate," he greeted.
"Hey."
I gazed up ahead not daring to look at him. I hated being lectured on the importance of sleep and forgiveness. And being reminded that nothing good comes out of revenge which was what the man was good for.
"I can see the bags under your eyes, Nathaniel," he said and I ignored him. He is one to talk, he just has no idea how hard it is to fall asleep when you hear your enemies singing happily under the moon.
It was torture like they were taunting me and I was helpless to do a single thing about it.
"Do you have what I asked for?" I asked getting straight to the point. I don't want to stay here any longer when I could be elsewhere putting my plans to action.
"Yes, I got you a way to meet the demon alpha," he said. His words piqued my interests earning my full attention.
"Tell me," the urgency and desperation in my voice were evident.
"A chosen for the harvest," he said and I frowned. What exactly does he mean by being chosen for the harvest.
He has lost his mind if he thinks that I am going to volunteer myself to be killed by the wolves just to get to the demon king. I need to be alive for revenge and dying for their cause hardly sounds like it will get that done for me.
"I can read the look on your face and no, you won't die. Yes you will be killed but you won't die," he said. I raised my eyebrow at him, how can a person be killed and not die.
"Can you hear yourself?" I asked hoping we were on the same subject here and that he could hear how mad he sounded.
"Yes, that is why I got you this," he said handing me a black thread with five knots on them.
"What is this?" I dared to ask.
"The name is hard to pronounce but just know that it will help you cheat death with the number of knots on it," he said.
"You have five lives now. It is a gift from the Marikan clan for being one of the best demons around. They wish you would join the force but they know that vengeance is the only thing you want in life," he explained.
I couldn't help but feel warm with the gift in hand. It was clear how much they cared for me and I will miss them but our time together is over now.
Perhaps if I survive through my revenge I might go back to them. They were my new family.
"They pulled a few strings and found out that the demon alpha will attend the harvest. His festival will be hosted here at Ocean," he said pointing to the restaurant before me.
"That is such good news," I let out.
"That brings us back to you being the chosen. Since you aren't a werewolf and have no status in the werewolf community, you can't get in any other way. The hotel is in strict surveillance even as we speak because rumor has it that he is already inside," he informed.
I felt a rush in my body, a thirst for blood and my heart started racing in my heart. Just the thought of the demon alpha got me excited. I couldn't wait to slit his throat open with me a knife and watch him bleed out.
"There is more," the man said. I averted my gaze from the hotel to him. "The demon king is the one to kill you all and after that, he will dine with all seven chosen before the night is over," he added.
"How can he dine with us when we are dead?"
"Rumour has it that there is a way to bring the chosens back after the ritual but till now it hasn't been proven with how secretive the wolves are. They keep to themselves so we aren't sure. But your return is certain," he affirmed.
Dinner is perfect if I am to work my magic and seduce the man. I don't care if he is only or ugly as long as I can use him as a pawn. I get the king, the subjects will be vulnerable and lost making it easy for me to eliminate them all.
The night will come soon and I will start to avenge my family. Their stars above will rest in peace when all is over and done with. They will be proud of me for all I am about to do.
They have protected me all my life and given me the strength to keep going and get justice for them and I won't disappoint.
"I have made arrangements for you. Here," he said handing me the envelope. I took it and opened it, inside was a room key and a flower that looked strange. It was unlike any flower that I had ever seen before.
"What is this?"
"I don't know," he told. "But it is the symbol of being a chosen. Seven people get this flower and an invite to stay at the hotel, we managed to nub one of them and steal his invite. Show them the flower when they come to your room," he added.
I nodded and kept everything safely tucked away in my coat.
"You should head inside and wait for them to come for you. Good luck on your quest," he said lastly before exiting the car.
