Freya Mikaelson

Helplessness.

That was what I felt.

Everyday became the same day for me as I repeated my hell loop at least a thousand times per day. Every day I tried to stop Mikael. And every day I fail and mourn the death of my wife.

Knowing that a mental defence spell could have broken this damn hallucination, I cursed myself for being so stupid and arrogant in the past.

It was foolish of me to think that I could face off the supernaturals in this universe with just 'Battle Magic'. But if I ever get out I won't make the same mistake twice. I will learn it all. Even 'Chaos Magic'.

At the moment, however, there was nothing I could do but wait for Dahlia to release me from this hell.

Weeping for what seemed like the millionth time, the surroundings began to change again. However, just when I thought the hell was about to start over, I woke up to the real world.

Awakening with tears still streaming down my cheeks, the events of those hallucinations still echo in my mind.

"How was it? Experiencing my 'Nightmare' spell?" Dahlia approached me and asked, trying to provoke a reaction from me, but I wasn't about to give her that satisfaction.

"Like I mentioned before, it's been a hundred days. So, what is it going to be, my boy? I want you to give me an answer by the end of the day." She patted my cheeks before walking out of the cottage to god knows where.

Keep being arrogant, old hag. One day, when I am free, I will make you suffer just like I did. As she walked out of the hut, I swore at her with an expression of pure rage on my face.

...

After being freed of my hallucinations, the first thing I did was circulate my Mana to cast a spell. However, I noticed my Mana had become very erratic and difficult to control, but I assumed this was just a side effect of not using it for so long.

Imposing my will on my Mana, I forced it to behave the way I wanted. Eventually, my Mana calmed down and I was able to cast a spell. With a deep breath I closed my eyes and focused on ejecting all my Mana from my body, but it produced the same result as before.

Disappointed with the result, I tried to do a different approach.

Focusing on the Mana in my body, I willed it to surround my brain, creating a translucent mental barrier. However, the same as before, before the barrier covers my whole brain, my Mana disperses.

"Damn it!" I cursed out in frustration at my failure.

Frustrated by the results, I tried to form a barrier again but was interrupted by a female voice.

"You should give up. You're never going to escape those shackles. Believe me when I say this, I have tried countless times to escape Dahlia and it always ends in failure."

Opening my eyes, I saw a pregnant Freya in the doorway, holding a bowl of herbs.

"Well, at least I didn't completely give up my freedom to become a slave to Dahlia, like you." I snapped.

"I assure you, one day I will get out of these." I declared, pointing at the shackles on me.

"Then, I wish you good luck." Breaking eye contact with me, she said coldly and turned back to do whatever Dahlia asked of her.

Realising what I just said, guilt starts to set in in my heart as I know what I said was untrue. Since I watched 'The Originals' in my original world. I understand she didn't mean to be a slave but because of the deal Esther made before she was born. And I also knew that even after a thousand years, she was still fighting for her freedom. Standing up, I apologized.

"Look, I am sorry, I didn't mean to lash out at you. I was just frustrated because I had a bad day. Weeks? Months? I don't even know anymore."

Ignoring my apology, she continued making some sort of potion using the herbs she had gathered.

"Any chance you're willing to help me get out of these chains?" I asked, hope visible in my tone.

"I'm sorry but I can't help you. I'm not even supposed to talk to you." She gives me an apologetic look and resumes her task at hand.

Nodding my head in understanding, I lay back on the cold, wooden wall and rest since it has been a while since I had a good night's rest.

After a short while, Freya broke the silence and said,

"I didn't catch your name."

"Cassius." I replied, knowing I could trust her.

"I'm Freya." She introduced herself.

"Yeah, I know. I may have heard Dahlia ordering you around, and I've heard about you from Rebekah." I replied.

"Rebekah?" Her ears perked up and she tilted her head in confusion.

Crap.

Putting a hand over my mouth, I realized my mistake.

"Did I mention that I used to live with your family?" Scratching my head, I look at her sheepishly.

Opening her mouth wide, like a goldfish, she looked at me in shock.

"My fa–family?" She said shakingly.

Oh, well it looks like the cat is out of the bag.

Sighing, I thought to myself.

"Look, Freya. There are some things you need to understand. Your family is not the way you remember them to be." My eyes showed a look of pity as I tried to explain to her.

"What happened to my family?" She asked in a low voice, her magic seeping into the air.

"Freya, I need you to calm down. You're letting your emotio–" Before I could finish calming her and her magic down she interrupted with a tone that suggested she's not playing around.

"What happened to my family?"

Not wanting to antagonise her further, I hesitantly revealed,

"Mikael. He became a monster. He abuses his kids. Your siblings. Even after death, he still hunts your siblings. And Finn. He became a mama's boy. He despises your siblings and listens to Esther like a mindless slave."

Freya's tears streamed down her face as she processed the difficult news, her sobs muffled by her arms.

Feeling for her, I wrapped her in a hug, hoping to offer some comfort. At first, she didn't respond, but eventually she melted into my embrace and cried on my chest.

As I rubbed her back, I reassured her,

"It's not your fault."

But Freya disagreed.

"It is my fault," she insisted.

"All those things happened to my father and brother because of me. If Dahlia had not taken me, they would still be the same as I remember."

I disagreed, pointing out,

"It's not. It's Esther. If Esther had not made the deal, none of this would have happened in the first place."

Once I realized what I had just revealed, I froze momentarily in fear she would figure out I knew some sort of future. Fortunately for me, she was too emotional to realise what I had just said

Freya's expression turned cold, and she said,

"And one day she shall pay in full."

Feeling uneasy about her tone, I changed the subject and urged her to rest, mindful of her pregnancy.

"Why don't you stop crying and rest? I heard crying is not recommended during pregnancy."

Wiping her tears off, Freya gave a small smile, and I felt relieved to see her in a better mood. However, my smile quickly faded when Dahlia entered the room with a basket of food.

"So, what is your decision, boy?" the woman asked, her eyes fixed on me.

I lowered my head, pretending to be grateful for her offer. "Thank you for your generous offer."

"Stop stalling for time, boy. Tell me your answer now." Her impatience was palpable.

Taking a step forward, I met her cold, heartless gaze and spoke with venom. "No, thank you. Piss off, you old hag."

Her fury was immediate. She snapped her fingers, and my wand came flying across the room stopping just inches from my face. I reached for it, but an invisible barrier prevented me from touching it.

"I realized that every time you use your magic, you use this stick. You need this small black stick to do magic, don't you?" she taunted.

I gulped, not daring to reply.

Taking my silence as a sign of refusal, Dahlia shrugged.

"Oh, well, it looks like I was wrong."

She produced a fireball in the palm of her hand, ready to incinerate my wand. Panic surged through me. Without my wand, I wouldn't be able to find Rebekah or protect myself.

I lunged for my wand, pleading,

"Woah, woah, woah, Dahlia, let's talk about this."

Her grin was malicious.

"Too late."

She launched the fireball toward my wand, and I braced for the worst.

But at the last second, Freya shouted.

"Scutum!"

A blue protective shield enveloped my wand, deflecting the fire.

"Aunt Dahlia, please stop this madness."

"Freya? What are you doing?" Confusion flashed across those cold, heartless eyes of hers.

"Sto–Stopping you from doing something you will regret." Fumbling around her words, she gave an excuse to Dahlia, hoping she would convince her to spare me.

"And what is that?" she asked, emotionless, narrowing her eyes to Freya.

"Just now, when you were away. He told me that he had lived for four hundred years. Didn't you want to be immortal?" Freya revealed my secret to Dahlia.

Now, it was my turn to be shocked as I looked at Freya's back with a mixture of betrayal and gratitude. But I knew this was the only way my wand would survive.

Making sure she heard Freya right, Dahlia questioned Freya again.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, auntie." Freya bowed her head respectfully.

Moving Freya out of the way, Dahlia moved to stand in front of me and

"You're so lucky, you are of use to me. If not, your wand would have been ashes by now. I hope the next time we see each other, you will give me an answer I like."

"Then, I guess I better still be of use to you." I snarked, smirking at her.

"Don't push it." Giving me a death glare, she puts a finger on my forehead, preparing to cast everyone's favourite spell. The 'Nightmare' spell. Or so I thought.

Looking at Freya one more time before the hallucination starts, I nod in gratitude at her for sticking her neck out for me who she barely knew. Before I knew it, I had succumbed to darkness.
