Cute & Obedient?

Qi Yuze was a little distracted and didn't even notice that someone seemed to be waiting for him at the University's gate. He seemed to be lost in his own world, quite detached from everything and everyone around. Although he mostly did look detached and indifferent to the world, he was never so lost in thoughts, to forget about where he was.

"Yuze!"

Qi Yuze stopped and turned his head. Seeing the face looking at him through the rolled-down windows of the car, his face softened, and lost all the indifference and sternness that was always there. Even his eyes seemed to have lit up a little.

"Xing jie!" he called out. "What are you doing here?"

"I am following orders," was Nan Xing's response. "I'm told to strictly follow you and make sure that you go home on time. Because someone is worried that after just discharging from the hospital, you'd spend all your time in the library."

"Tsk. Why do you even listen to him?" asked Qi Yuze in annoyance but he was actually a little happy in his heart. He had some people who were genuinely concerned about his health, how could he not be happy about this?

The driver opened the door for Qi Yuze and he sat down in the backseat with Nan Xing who had so many documents with her that needed her attention. It was obvious that she was busy but when was it that she wasn't busy? So, he was used to it. And her taking time out of her busy schedule was also something he was quite used to by now.

"Did you eat lunch?" asked Nan Xing and seeing how Qi Yuze pretended to be looking out the window, she got her answer. "Why do you both have to do this to me? Do I have to remind you to eat on time? Since you didn't eat, you didn't take your medicine too. Am I right? Is this why you wanted to be discharged from the hospital?"

Qi Yuze bit his lips feeling guilty as he was in the wrong. He really forgot about eating when he was studying. He touched his glasses and turned to Nan Xing slowly as he muttered, "You don't eat on time either. Where do you think your stomach problems come from?"

"Are you trying to rebel?"

Qi Yuze shook his head immediately in response. He could be a tiger or a wolf in front of anyone else but in front of Nan Xing, he was more like a little lamb who didn't dare resist or rebel.

Nan Xing rubbed her forehead which was aching because of the disobedient kids in her life. Why was her life so difficult? Couldn't she have just two normal, cute, and obedient brothers?

"How about you come home with me?" she suggested after she calmed down. "I won't be assured leaving you at your place all alone. You are gonna keep acting like this and delay your recovery. But we can not take any chances at this stage."

Qi Yuze disagreed, "No, it's better for me to live at my place."

"Yuze!"

"Xing Jie! Even if I go to your house, I'd be left with only the nanny and the other maids at your house. You won't be coming home very much because of how busy you are. Isn't it better for me to just stay at my own place? I promise I won't careless. Also, you know I prefer living in my own place."

Of course, Nan Xing knew how much he liked living in his own place. That's why she decided not to push him. Anyway, he preferred being alone. "Then I'll keep calling you to remind you to take your medicine. Pick up your phone."

"I will!" he agreed readily as long as he didn't have to move out of his place.

Nan Xing not only brought him to his residential building but also went up to his place with him. As they opened the door, one could see the neat and spotless house. The wooden floor was so squeaky clean that one could see their face in it.

Although Qi Yuze didn't like anyone invading his private space, he also didn't like to see dirt which made him uncomfortable. That's why he didn't question who cleaned up his place because he already knew and even silently acquiesced to this arrangement too.

After putting his bag down, he first went to check the kitchen and saw all the groceries, he was happy so he offered, "Xing Jie, how about I make something for you to eat too? I'm certain you skipped your lunch as always."

Nan Xing looked at the time and shook her head saying, "No, I don't have time. I just came to drop you at your place. Now that I'm done, I have to go back to the office. I have a dinner arrangement with someone. So, I'll just eat there."

Qi Yuze's face stiffened when he heard that and asked, "Are you going out to dinner with Yi Jingyun?"

Nan Xing looked up at him, "I did ask him out but he doesn't seem to have time."

"He can't be busier than you are," retorted Qi Yuze clearly dissatisfied. "And yet, he has the nerve to turn down your invitation. Isn't he making his intentions way too obvious? He isn't even trying to hide it now."

Nan Xing looked absolutely careless about this matter as she shrugged, "My job as his fiancée is to try to spend more time with him before marriage to cultivate some feelings. He doesn't want that, can I force it? You can never force a person to do what they don't want to do."

Qi Yuze snickered, "Between the two of you, the forced one had always been you. He was clearly the one who never had any opinions of his own. So, you can't say he was forced to be associated with you. Isn't he taking advantage of your reputation?"

"You really don't like, Jingyun, eh. Don't be so biased. He isn't that bad either. At least, we grew up together. And we had been such good friends growing up too. It's just that he came back from abroad a few years before me and by the time I came back, the distance between us has grown. It's nothing big. I'm sure we can find a middle ground."

"And if you can't?"

"Then I'm not the one taking any loss."

"But that's where you are wrong," said Qi Yuze. "In this male dominated society, you as a woman would be the one taking the loss in the end. He won't lose anything."

Nan Xing put her hand on his head and rubbed his hair saying, "I don't take losses. If I managed to find my own place in the male dominated society and earned my respect, I don't see why I will be the one at a loss. Also, your hair are longer after staying in the hospital for so long. Do you want to grow them more now?"

Qi Yuze knew she didn't want to continue the topic so she purposely changed the direction of their conversation but he still went along with her and replied, "I think I look good."

"Hmm... Good looking indeed," commented Nan Xing seriously. "Then at least, get them styled. They look so untamed right now."

Qi Yuze ran his fingers through his hair and had to say that his hair grew a lot in the past few months. They went below his ears and he could even wear a small pony on the very end. But as Nan Xing, it did make him look good too.

"By the way, I saw your little brother-in-law at the university today," informed Qi Yuze as if he suddenly remembered that. He usually didn't talk about such things with Nan Xing or with anyone for that matter. But now, he suddenly wanted to tell her about it.

Nan Xing's brows knitted up slightly, "What was he doing there?"

"I don't know. He was with a unfamiliar girl," he added or should we say, he emphasized on this.

Nan Xing suddenly thought of the girl whom she saw in the morning and looked thoughtful. But soon, she shook her head and said to him, "Whatever he is up to isn't our concern. Let him be. I'm leaving now. Take care of yourself. I'll come to see you again."

"Okay! Bye!"
