Chapter 71 - Cat Fight (2)

With a leap, Kayurnn' shortened the distance between them stretching out one of his claws to pierce her. However he was too late, as the rustling winds suddenly became fierce and pushed him back from her while the female cat mage bellowed a loud roar, red and black light extended from the staff and shrouded her entire body before her brown skin began to change to black as scales red in colour emerged from her back, creating a creature, a beast, a mix of feline and reptilian origins.

The staff she held before was now useless as no red light emanated from the wooden eyes but from hers. Her fangs protruded out to the top of her mouth and her glowing red pupils now gazed at Kayurnn who was covered in moon armor that was silvery in colour.

Moon light began to emanate from him, making the view around him even brighter.

"Killing you will be a huge loss to wherever crisped land you came from. I'll make sure your madness stops here once and for all" he declared before sprinting towards his new opponent.

The beast looked at him and hissed, baring the full length of her fangs before stumping on the ground. For a moment a flame now blackish red formed around her body before spreading outwards with the gusts of wind she created from the collision.

The winds now mixed with the flames clashed against his armor and burnt it fervently for a while before vanishing and leaving behind patches in his armor.

He frowned at this and thought "Reddish black flames are this dangerous? Better be safe than sorry," his claws crossed once again and moved in a curve downwards before separating and in the process created moon light that formed into a shield as the patches of flames clashed against it and burnt for a while before dimming.

However little did he expect a huge flying fist to crash against his construct and shatter it into pieces leading him to jump back creating distance between them.

He hissed in annoyance before speeding towards her, leaving behind moonlight dust in the trail as his left claw inflicted a mark on the waist before his opponent could react.

A white light protruded out of the wound making her hiss out in pain as the red blood that flowed out sizzled under the lights effect.

Out of anger, her right hand slammed the earth, a pair of flaming paws spread from it before coming from the sands under Kayunrr's feet to grab them.

Kayurnn quickly retreated by taking a backflip. Just as he was about to touch the ground another flaming paw emerged from the sand, ready to grab him.

He narrowed his eyes and quickly swung his body in mid air allowing the upper portion of his body to swipe down as his silver claw split the flaming hand into two which later vanished into a puff of smoke.

"If I continue to move about like this then I would be the first to get tired. If I can also gauge how much mana she controls then that will be the best way to weaken her assuming she was a mage,"

The beast stomped its claw against the ground and this time two pairs of flaming hands reached for him. In response, he leaped upwards and cut them all with a single swipe before his motion was balanced.

"But since she's a beast then I'll have to deal with this once and for all while conserving my energy," he sprinted again and this time both of his claws made marks on her waist and red blood spilled towards the ground mixing with the white sand reflected by the moon.

"Wait, she's already back from the previous strike?" That was when he realized that the earlier claw marks had disappeared even though they were glaring from her fur when he last attacked.

At that moment, a flame appeared around the marks he had created and burnt it, and we watched as the mark disappeared and black fur quickly patched the skin before the flame vanished.

"She has regeneration?!" he exclaimed before growling "Now there has to be a weakness somewhere or else I'm done for,"

His opponent turned to face him, her red eyes glowing even brighter and her fangs were 0 more announced before she took a giant leap and bared her paw with its black nails and flame surrounding it.

It was then that he noticed a small glowing red dot above the mage's eyes as the monster's roars became even louder and stronger and the sands below him parted under her force while he covered his ears.

"By my cat whiskers this is great!" he thought as he dodged the claw attack and slashed in retaliation.

His opponent sent forth her other claw to block and both clashed creating a 'clang' sound before their next claws followed and the fight continued.

It was like a sword fight to Shawn but this one was animals using their sharp body parts as weapons.

Kayurnn deflected the incoming strike from a claw creating a ''clang' sound. His opponent spun in response, moving her other claw towards him before suddenly crouching down to swipe at his leg.

He jumped back with ease and avoided the attack, but his opponent followed with a leap sending a strike which he dodged before arching his back to dodge the next.

Using the new position he freed one of his legs using it to propel the rest of his body towards her as his blades struck at her waist.

As if by instinct, his opponent jumped up pulling her feet up in the air to stump at his body.

Luckily for him, he moved fast enough to feel a shockwave come from behind blowing him away until he stabilized his position.

His enemy was not giving him the moment to rest as she had taken a big leap to the side before thrusting her paw which he narrowly dodged, sidestepping as the blazed nails crossed him he stepped forward to follow up with an upper slash. His opponent jumped back as the slash narrowly cut her from the chin below.

Not wanting to give her the moment to retaliate, Kayurnn rushed at her and followed up with more slashes in all directions "Hundred hands attack, if you get hit then you die," he said before intensifying his attacks to contain fists.

To his horror, the cat reptile creature smoothly dodged everything he threw at her as not even her clothing or skin was touched.

As he delivered his last attack in the form of a punch, she caught it with her palm as the sand under them both dispersed speedily as if under the influence of a shockwave.

"My turn!" She said, causing his eyes to widen.

He quickly snapped out of the shock only to realize a furry scaled leg heading towards him but failed to react quickly and was sent flying to the nearest sand dune.

As he raised himself up, he coughed and clutched his tummy, panting heavily.

The moon armor that covered that side seemed to have caved in.

The beast slowly walked and addressed him "Now can you feel the power of who I rever, the true power of the flaming snake consumes all opponents till only their ash is left!"

"O, so you can talk?" he flashed her a mocking smile and she responded with a chuckle "You seemed very willing to kill me, pardon me if i did bid the time to lower your guard," She paused for a while before revealing her claws "But now, I'm going to kill you!"

The flames that had vanished lit up from her claws before extending to her entire body.

Kayurnn smiled at this "Since you are an attacker that has nearly killed me, I suppose I should have the honour of knowing your name. It is though, a tradition for my clan to ask for our opponents name if we find them worthy,"

She scoffed before crouching a bit "Out of pity, I'll introduce myself. My name is Akane and that tradition is about to be the reverse for your case,"

"Because I will be the one to finish you!" She sprinted towards him for the first time and left the trail of burnt sand.

"Very well then!" Kayurnn's smile reached his feline ears before he rose up and balanced himself, proceeding to release his claws, crossing them once more to release a blinding light as he roared before sprinting to welcome her attacks.

The battle between the mages and moon warriors was still drawn out with bodies scattered across the sands when all of a sudden, a strange light shot to the sky.
