Training as a Slime (20)

To make the haunted house more realistic Alice gathered data from Earth's thrillers and supernatural movies and used them as inspiration to generate spectres, traps, and jump scares. It also decreased the temperature and generated some fog effects along the stairs. After some 5 seconds implementation, it was feeling extremely pleased and excited despite the fact that it was just an OS.

When the haunted museum generated, Cori cried bitterly, withholding his tongue, "I'm so *beep!" He self censored himself, not taking any chances just in case the new OS was telepathic too. Alice did some probability calculation on Cori's reaction and predicted what he would say to maximise the haunted house effect. As if reading his thoughts, Alice chuckled in its witchy voice, "Yes you are! Time for the guided tour!HAHAHAHAHA!"

Despite developing a taste for dangers and risks, it was an entirely different matter when it came to ghosts. Cori never participated in any ghosts hunting when he was human. And every horror movie left him sick and paranoid (not daring to look into the mirror fearing he would see spirits) for several days, even though he watched the whole movie by peeking through his fingers in a foetal position. Now instead of fingers, he had paws. And instead of curling up for safety, he could only stay stumped in a ball shape with 2 dangly cheeks.

Alice was in high spirits after witnessing the poor slime glued to the floor, shivering. The place was almost pitch black, except for the dim lights glowing down on the museum artefacts. Of course our dear Alice had also taken his actions into calculation and made shadows shuffled behind him along with a gust of cold wind that sent shivers down the spineless slime.

Cori had no choice but to move against the walls for a sense of security. A voice crept up behind him and whispered, "Faster!" As predicted, Cori dashed towards the artefact, hoping the light would save him. Alas, he could only find the doll seemingly looking down on him due to the downlight. Alice took the chance to explain in its normal, professional, robotic lady like voice, "Annabella the doll- A demonic spirit was found living in this doll on Earth and after a series of supernatural events, it was finally captured by two talented supernatural human investigators. Angelic runes were drawn onto the dollhouse to bind it to its place and prayers were made 3 times a day to reinforce the holy energy. However, the Wardenas met with bankruptcy and had to auction off some of their possessions. Our Lord secured the doll at a secret auction at a mere $1 million USD and a negotiated movie deal. The Annabella doll at the Wardenas had been replaced with a replica and was used as a holy object to suppress the other cursed items on Earth."

Cori examined the doll and noticed the doll's pupils followed him wherever he moved. A barely audible voice could be heard seemingly asking Cori to save it.

Cori wondered if the angelic runes could come in handy but decided he had plenty of time after this creepy tour finished. He put his paw against the wall to guide himself to the next destination. Just as he was about to reach the next display, a hand grabbed his paw. The slime turned green and put up a struggle before his paw was released. Reacting instinctively, the poor slime sprint-bounced toward the chair and slammed into the glass display.

As he fell flat to the ground, Alice took the chance and elaborated, "This chair was used by emperors throughout its dynasty. It was rumoured that only the rightful emperor could sat on it. Numerous usurpers died on this very chair. Our Lord has also verified the curse to be real. It was later donated as a gift by the late emperor to the Lord for negotiating a deal on his behalf. Although the late emperor succeeded in escaping death during wartimes, he ended up being the last emperor to ever lived and passed his life in solitude." Cori no longer trusted the walls as a safe space out of fear. He was shaken and could not pay much heed to the guide. Through out the tour, he walked on all paws cautiously, ready to dart in case of danger.

Coming to the end of the tour, Cori learned (due to his passive skill - hyperthymesia) that the cursed items were well protected by holy items. Angelic runes were also used to restrain haunted objects. He also gathered from Alice that certain haunted items were from other planets. In order to confine the demons, spirits, and other entities, the deity had created and named the generators after the angels in order to power the angelic runes. The generators pumped holy energy through the holy grid similar to the power grid or lan lines back on Cori's world. The generators were also classed into different angelic hierarchies and were used for different purposes. Each generator were managed by different OS and each OS were able to operate several functions. Alice mentioned with pride that it was registered with Seraphim generator and that Seraphim was the top grade generator.

Alice also boasted towards the end of the tour that the deity was a game fanatic and was heavily influenced by all the Earth's drama and television show. "Ya, I could tell. This whole 'exchange' thing must be to tour the Earth like a tourist," Cori deducted.

Alice briefly appeared as an oddly fair little boy with jet black hair and big round eyes. He covered his mouth in front of Cori and sprinted to the last artefact before disappearing. Every inch of Cori's soul told him to stay put. A ghostly granny beside the artefact waved to Cori to come closer but his body felt heavy and immobilised. After long exposure to fear, the curse had finally seeped in.

Alice sensing the urgency of the situation slid the display stand towards Cori, but in Cori's eyes it moved on its own, almost slamming into him. Cori was shaken, and rolled a step back. The shield rolled off its stand and collapsed onto Cori. A warmth like home surrounded Cori, dispelling the fear effect. Alice timed and coordinated the timing and returned the museum to normal bit by bit starting from where Cori was standing.

Cori picked up the plain silvery holy shield. Alice, "It's yours, Master."
