Many enemies
"I have not been pretending, I have only stepped up" Tara replied sharply looking at his body to ensure he was okay. She tried not to show any emotion in front of him as she was also learning to mask her emotions in front of him.
Lakan tried to sit up but he was prevented by Tara who placed a hand on his body.
"You should not try to sit up, just continue to lie down " she insisted preventing him with a firm hold.
Lakan wasn't one to listen to anyone but the pains he felt when he tried to raise his body were enough for him to heed her advice.
"You should be careful around my family members, it is better you don't get on their wrong side especially my elder sister " Lakan offered her advice seeing that she was going to be strong-hearted. He likes this new part of her but would not want to encourage her. He knew how deadly his siblings can be when they feel anyone is trying to undermine them.
Tara knew what he was talking about so she just took his words to heart without argument. She knew she would have to be very careful around them.
She was wondering when he would ask her about the shooting incident.
"Do not worry about the shooting incident, I won't ask you about it" Lakan said casually reading her mind. Tara was shocked that he could tell what she was thinking about fear for him gradually crawled into her mind.
"Why? Why will you not ask me when I was the one who put you in this position? Tara asked looking at him suspiciously
Lakan chucked on hearing that.
" I doubt if you have to know the number of enemies I have personally or because of the family I came from, any one of them could have been responsible" he replied trying to play down her fears.
"But, when we first...." Tara quickly closed her mouth when she realized she was about to say something that was supposed to be a secret.
Lakan stared at her hoping she would complete the statement but Tara had no intention of completing it. She was not about to tell him that this was the second marriage she was experiencing. What could have changed? The first marriage had no such incident. That's why she was convinced she must have been the cause.
"You were about to say something, what was it? Lakan asked
" Nothing, I was just missing up things in my head," she said with a wave of the hand as she didn't want him to think it was anything serious.
"How is your body now does it still hurt? She asked switching topics immediately
" I am fine, I just dislike the fact that I am in the hospital, I hate it around here " Lakan replied looking around the room with disgust in his eyes.
"You have to manage, for now, Tara said as she took a space beside him on the bed to sit. Even if she knew she had fo be careful around him she couldn't ignore the fact that he saved her life. It doesn't matter who's enemy came for her the fact he took a bullet for her has softened her heart towards him.
" Will you like to eat anything? She asked as she held his hands taking him by surprise. She wasn't one to make such bodily contact in the past.
Just as he was about to answer the doctor walked in with Jezebel behind him. She had a cold look on her face and Tara could tell that with the right opportunity they would be tearing each other very soon. She wanted to stare back at her but when she remembered the warning of Lakan she decided to avoid her gaze. The right time will come she told herself.
"We will be taking you home in the next thirty minutes, your dad has ordered for it to be done that way" Doctor Brain announced
"But the doctor will it be nice to take him home in this state? He would need to be stronger "Tara objected thinking he was strong enough for such stress.
" He will be safer at home than in this hospital" Jezebel replied sharply as if she has has been waiting for an opportunity.
Tara wanted to reply to her when she felt a hand on her hand .she looked down to see Lakan holding her. One look at his face and she could tell he didn't want her to exchange any more words with his sister.
"Alright then, I will get him ready before we move " Tara submitted to the wish of her husband.
"I already brought people who would do that, Jezebel countered as she clapped her hands her indication for them to walk in. Three female nurses walked but Tara would have none of it.
"I will take care of my husband myself, just get fhe car ready," Tara said stopping them from touching him. They stopped to stare at Jezebel who was looking on angrily without saying a word.
"I am his wife, is there any problem here? Tara asked raising her voice a little with a mean look on her face to drive fear into the hearts of the girls who quickly backed out of the room with Jezebel giving a long hiss before walking away.
The doctor stood perplexed at what just happened. He had not been introduced to Tara so he didn't know her.
" Welcome to the family, I am Doctor Brain fhe family doctor he said stretching his hand for a handshake with Tara which she accepted.
"Thank you, sir, I am Mrs. Tara Blackwaters wife of Lakan and only child of the Lockwoods" Tara introduced herself making sure he heard every word. She knew he must have already figured it out from what she has been saying but she needed people to know for certain. She could tell that the Doctor was impressed when he heard her introduction
From this moment she was going to carry herself as a powerful woman even if it means stepping on people's toes that's the only way to protect her family from the miserable ending she experienced.
