To Convince The Devil

This was originally the first thing I wrote on this site but stopped because I wasn't happy with how the story progressed. I have come back a year and a bit later to revise chapters and rework the story in a way I am happy with and in a way I'm hoping you enjoy as well.

"What do you mean? Why would you think I'm afraid of you?" Raphael said in confusion. The Devil was expressionless as she looked at him for an answer. "I'm asking you genuinely,'' she replied. There was no wind, everything was still while Rapheal stood trying to rack his brain as to why he would be afraid of her. "Maybe you aren't then and I was just incorrect." The Devil said as she turned around. "I'm afraid of your opinions" Raphael said, staring intently towards her. "How so?" She asked, turning back to face him. "Well look at it at face value, I was afraid of everyone's opinions, I was a people pleaser. That didn't change when I came here, I just started feeling liked around you because you didn't talk through me" He said looking into her kind emerald eyes.

"I can see what you mean by that but I have no opinions to fear, I sparsely have opinions to hide." She said looking back into Raphael's silver mine eyes. "I don't mean your opinions on morals and stuff, I mean your opinions on me." he said, still intently staring at the devil, he wasn't dropping his head or wallowing this time, he was standing and looking into her eyes for a real response. "Do you mean like how you don't acknowledge when you call me lucy? Or do you mean how I feel about how you respond to trials and choices?" She said, staring both past him and at him.

"Both of them, How do you feel about both of them?" He said, his face stern and cold. "You aren't going to believe me no matter what I say." She said darting from his eyes to his mouth and back. "I don't care, just being able to hear it is enough." He said unwavered. "Your morals are fine, I don't care about your reactions to the trials, it's not my purpose to hate them, I am meant to be able to comment on them and determine that you had one in the first place." She said looking down from his eyes. "And what about Lucy?" Raphael asked. "It's more formal, if you are more comfortable saying it rather than referencing me without a title then I don't care." She said as she lifted her hand and placed it on his head.

"That's it?" He asked. "You're just okay with it?" He said, taking her hand off his head. She grasped his hand in hers, "I don't mind if you enjoy calling me Lucy. It's sweet and kind." She said with a smile from ear to porcelain chipped ear. Raphael didn't know how to react to the comment, He looked down at her emerald eyes and soft smile and saw warmth. Without thinking Raphael stepped towards her and wrapped his arms around her. "What are you doing?" She asked, her face half buried in his shoulder. "Thank you Lucy, thank you for telling me, thank you for understanding." He said with a smile on his face. It wasn't tearful or blissful, he was just happy, it was just a thank you.
