Book 2: 12

"Doc, I need you in the clinic. Now!" Sean's loud and frightened voice pierced into my ears.

I turned my head sideways to look and tell him I didn't need Dr. Mimi. She could treat my signs of mild dehydration but not its cause. However, Sean was white as paper as he stared at me, his eyes as wide as his opened mouth. I just lost the energy to stop him.

I panted in exhaustion as my episodes of vomiting drained my strength. Drops of sweats trickled down my temples, and my skin was cold and clammy to my touch. My knees wobbled, and before my vision turned into a complete shade of black, my feet lifted off from the floor. Sean carried me to the clinic.

Dr. Mimi personally inserted an IV line in my arm, running a plain Lactated Ringer's solution afterward to replace my fluid and electrolyte loss. I cast her a weak smile without saying anything as I was too tired and emotionally-drained to talk. Dr. Mimi did not insist on speaking to me even if she knew that it wasn't only about physical fatigue, but matters of the heart.

A medical technologist came in and drew a blood sample. The creases in Sean's fold increased as he watched the needle in horror. From the moment he placed me on the hospital bed in the clinic, he remained by my side with a terrified look, holding my hand or massaging my legs.

I dozed off for a few hours, and the moment I opened my eyes, Sean was still sitting by my side. I looked around, and just when I was about to request for Dr. Mimi, she suddenly appeared by the door--her eyes were on Sean. She probably understood that the one who was most scared here was not anybody else but him.

"I just had your electrolytes, and those are all within the normal level. Except for a slight decrease in your sodium and potassium levels."

"What can we do about it, doc? Shall we take her to the hospital?" Sean jolted from his seat, obviously not grasping the full meaning of what Dr. Mimi had said.

"No need," Dr. Mimi burst out laughing. "Red's symptoms are expected from a pregnant woman on her first trimester."

My lips twisted to a wide grin, and my hand crept out subconsciously to my lower abdomen. I stole a sideways glance at Sean, who was still looking at Dr. Mimi with a furrowed brows.

"Mr/ Grey, congratulations. You are soon going to be a daddy!"

Sean's color drained as he finally understood her. His shoulders then moved as he broke into a sob. Scooping me in his arms, he pressed my face close to his.

"I'm sorry! I'm really sorry!"

I cried with him even though I didn't understand his extreme guilt. I saw how he struggled away from Calla, and I could tell that it was she who initiated that desperate kiss. But seeing your husband kissed and held by another woman hurt like hell. It could spark wilder thoughts in my imagination, primarily upon knowing about their connected offices.

Dr. Mimi left as she saw how both of us got emotional. I had the luxury of sniffing his masculine scent again, and now I understood why I had this strange liking. I got lost in my thoughts, but then Sean found me amusing, and he laughed, cuddling me tighter.

"So, this explains why you suddenly turn into a puppy!"

I also laughed, amused at how weird a pregnant woman can be. All of a sudden, I forgot all the pain, and I yielded when Sean put m back on the bed and started to kiss me. I swallowed all his salty tears as it flowed endlessly, even as his tongue probed deeper into my mouth.

Sean got lost in desire soon after, perhaps because of the joy of unexpected reconciliation. He began pulling the linen away as his hands made way into my breasts. My dress then flew into the floor, followed by my lingerie. I kissed him back, turning him on further. Just as his mouth crept into my inner thighs, the door opened, and I heard a loud gasp.

I sat up abruptly to see who came in, and to my shock, it was Calla!

"Sorry for disturbing. I'm just here to announce that Ric is coming to see you. Both of you must come!"

"Don't you know how to knock?" Sean roared after she ended her news, scrambling to his feet to shield me from her view.

Calla lifted one brow and stared at my lower part. I just realized that in our haste, I forgot to cover myself, and I laid myself open to her.

"Who would expect that a patient and the company owner would do a scandal in the clinic?" she smirked, then turned towards the door.

"She's my wife, Calla. And what we are doing is not scandalous at all."

"You're right," she spoke over her shoulder, "the term applies to what we are doing."

I couldn't see Sean's face, but I could tell how he was fuming in anger. I may have imagined them on heated scenes inside Sean's office, but her daring and provoking attitude made me despise her. A woman who deserved respect would never dare to do that. I was beginning to see her as a seductress, a wealth-insatiable woman who wouldn't stop her crime until she gets what she wants.

"Please call the nurse and let her remove this," I pointed my lips to my IV line, ignoring Sean's recurring guilty look. Honestly, he didn't have to apologize anymore. It was not his fault if Calla eyed him and his wealth.

"No, you and our baby need this!" Sean protested. He walked over to a built-in closet, pulled out a gown, and helped me into it.

"Sean, just please listen. Let's go back to our room. I want you."

Sean stared at me in disbelief, perhaps because he didn't expect that I did not have the heart to make it hard for him.
