Chapter 17: The Confrontation

John's POV

He should have known the little outpost would be packed. It was a holiday weekend, the height of summer, and the river was packed with boats.

John slid the door of the cooler shut and paid for his drink. Instead of going back out to his car, he decided to drag his miserable self out the back entrance, where the long dock offered boat parking.

John had done nothing but war with himself since talking to Rich Sunday afternoon. He should go back to Birmingham. A clean break. He hadn't been able to stop himself from making a comment every now and then, but he did his best to only speak to Rhiannon when he had to. He couldn't drag his eyes off of her, though, so he had taken to avoiding the bar completely. Rich had run the place without him for years, he wasn't doing any good being there. His meetings for the bank in Huntsville would wrap up soon, it made sense to leave.
