The Wolf of a Dark Age

Ren Lei is the fourth son of a minor noble family and the son of a concubine to boot. Being born a cripple, the only thing he has is beauty; beauty that caused him much suffering growing up in a house where no-one loved him. As if that wasn't enough, he was about to be sold off in a political marriage to a woman who had everything he didn't, the Princess of the Ether Cloud City, full of not only beauty but with immense talent in profound cultivation. Refusing to submit to his fate, as a final act of rebellion, in a desperate bit to retake what little control he had over his own life, he chooses to consume poison and commit suicide. However, the fates are not so kind to those that would try to change it. He survives but suffers from a strange condition that causes his soul to separate from his body. As he slowly loses the constrains of a physical body, he is forced to look at himself more closely and recognise who he truly is. Not only must he struggle against the destiny devised for him but also his true nature: a calamity whose howl will wipe the slate of an era clean, ushering in a new dark age. It hurts!?

"What the fuck!?" Yun Lei exclaimed, spreading out his senses once more. However, the results remained the same. There was no one else there besides him.

Knowing that trying anymore would only be futile, he retracted his senses, concentrating it in a small area around him. Doing so undoubtably decreased his range, but it massively increased his sensitivity, allowing him to be aware of even extremely minute changes within this decreased range. All of this was in an effort to protect himself. After all, he could very well have been next on the list of whoever or whatever was behind the disappearances.

"Fuck!" He exclaimed under his breath again, unable to keep himself calm. Although his arms were starting to tire, he still held his bow at a ready, waiting to fire at any foe that appeared. His nerves had been stretched so taut that they were at their breaking point, however, he couldn't afford to relax.
