Barely 5 minutes passed after the assault when a man appeared in the tower, his face expressed shock and worry. He rushed into the tower, making his way to the top.
Entering the room where the battle had just taken place, he looked around, spotting a lot of injured and burned to crisp bodies.
Without wasting time, he dashed to the only woman in the room. With a humble expression, he walked closer and saw a young Witcher with a burned back, with which he shielded the body of Nenneke.
The man spoke in a polite and graceful voice "Bless you god young Witcher, you saved this woman's life, but your job here is done. Let me help her, I believe I have such a skill".
Geralt, who himself could barely comprehend anything around, replied with a short "Yes" and fell to the ground, losing the power to handle the injuries.
The man walked closer to Nenneke, that looked at the man saying "Vilgefortz, it is such a pleasure to see you here! Quickly help those young Witcher. I'm scared they won't make it without your help".
Vilgefortz apologized. "I'm sorry mother Nenneke, but it is my moral codex to help the ladies first. Please allow me to provide you with my help before I can move on to young and brave Witchers"
With a heavy sigh, she allowed him to heal her. It didn't take long for someone like him to do the job quickly before moving to the almost crisped bodies of those that barely had a pulse and were still alive only formally.
Vilgefortz said in a sad voice, "Such a poor thing, I can heal their wounds, but I can never remove those feelings that they lived through"
August, who was barely moving, said in a hoarse voice, "Save Remus and Berengar, they made it out alive from hell, and they will make it out alive now"
Vilgefortz shrugged, replying, "No problems, young Witcher. I will get the job done, but you better stop moving. I will have to see if I can help you".
August instantly denied without a single thought, "I don't need your healing"
Vilgefortz cast some kind of spells on the rest of the Witchers almost instantly healing them, however, those that were burned to a crisp had no chance of getting rid of burns that covered their entire body, forever making them look like a creature from hell. Because of their terrible state, they were unconscious and nobody knew how long it will take them to get back.
Vilgefortz walked towards August and sat on haunches looking into August's eyes, inquiring, "Don't you think a bit of magic will help you heal?" Vilgefortz looked like he showed a lot of concern about August, with worry in his voice he continued "It must be very painful, with injuries such as yours".
But for August, none of the words that the sorcerer said had value, instead August doubted, "How did you get here so fast?"
Nenneke yelled in August's direction, "August, Sir Vilgefortz from Roggeveen is our great benefactor. Don't make him look bad".
Vilgefortz showed no hostility, waving toward Nenneke, to show that he didn't mind questions and asked August, "What do you want to know? I will be pleased to answer any questions of someone strong and brave like you!"
August repeated exactly the same question one more time. "How did you get here so fast?"
Vilgefortz smiled with a friendly smile and took a posture. With his hand on his chin and eyes looking at the ceiling, he answered, "Of course, I would know when someone tore off the barrier protection I created! I had to prepare in the hurry, to be on time and try to save as many people as I could."
He took a dramatic pause, as his face shifted to very moody, and he continued, "Sadly, I was too late to catch the one that broke inside and almost killed those that you treasure as much"
August's attention shifted, he looked at the hand of the man that was covered with a glove made of high-quality cloth. August looked into the eyes of Vilgefortz one more time and asked, "What is under your glove?"
The friendly yet annoyed voice of Vilgefortz answered, "There is nothing". Taking the glove off his hands, he showed a perfectly neat hand without a single scratch. He brought it close to August's face, to let him see everything in details, and inquired "See? Something specific you wanted to see there?"
Vilgefortz put his glove back and released a heavy sigh, turning towards Geralt saying "He is grumpy, one of you?"
Geralt didn't reply, but just looked toward August.
Vilgefortz, hearing no response, looked at Eskel asking, "I guess he is the silent type, you must be talking one, right?"
Eskel snorted, showing neither confirmation nor rejection, but still spoke "August is for sure grumpy"
Vilgefortz, seeing Eskel talk, released a small chuckled, asking Eskel "How should I make this child accept my help?"
Eskel rubbed back his head and replied with uncertainty, "I don't know, I can say that you just lost your chance" with that he pointed at the door that released a loud sound
*Bang*
Vilgefortz looked to the side, finding no August next to him. With his eyebrow ticking, he turned to Eskel inquiring, "Did he just leave".
Eskel had a conflicting face and nodded without saying much.
Nenneke went ahead and arrived next to Vilgefortz, saying "Don't worry, he will warm up with time! Everyone gets softer in such a place like this. For now, can you please check your barrier around the temple? I don't feel safe when such a people are able to break into the Temple without much effort" she showed an alluring smile that could make a man's heart stop.
With a deep bow, Vilgefortz took her hand and place a kiss on the back of her palm, replying "I will do that immediately my lady. This was a job of my early days. I will create something much more significant this time. Forgive me for not doing this earlier. It could have prevented such a dreadful event from ever taking place ".
Nenneke responded with a sweet smile and sympathetic voice, "Thank you, you are a great man. Luckily, nobody died today, but it is not your fault after all. It is that mage that dared to fight on the sacred ground that can only be used for praying and studying. Please do your job and make sure to come back into the dining area. I will prepare some delicate tea to welcome you properly".
Vilgefortz bowed gracefully and with the words" I will not skip such a welcoming invitation from a delicate lady like you Lady Nenneke, I will be back as soon as I'm done" with that he disappeared, leaving no trace of him being in the room.
Lambert looked at all of this interaction, being quite shocked. This lady that rejected him almost instantly showed so much more interest towards the mage that just appeared and did nothing to defend the place. While he stood right here and fought some kind of crazy powered mage, in the end, she didn't even reward him with a glance.
It almost made him cry, the bad thing that Witchers never cry.
