Chapter 49: Forbidden Magic

I don’t have time to tell him how proud I am, how far he’s come as an Alpha, and how much he’s grown as a person. All I can do is look on in abject horror as Alec drops to the ground on a scream and Victor has his claws at my throat.
“This is how it’s going to play out,” Victor says, rivulets of blood trailing down the side of my neck with pinprick flares of pain, “we’re going to walk out of here to let Alec bleed out, and then I’m going to make good on my promise from before. A Halloran Alpha needs a pack, and what a better way than to have pups.”
I can hear Alec’s growl from the ground, but it’s pained and tight, exhausted from fighting and running since he first woke up this morning without me. I can’t even imagine what he’s feeling aside from pain and betrayal, but based on the waves of anger and sadness coming through the bond, I can tell that he just wanted to end this peacefully. That killing his brother is going to feel like severing a piece of himself.
