Chapter 32: Intentions and Blunders

-LEENA-

“So, where are we going?” I ask for the dozenth time this hour, my shirt already gone from the heat of the day, a strange autumnal heat wave taking the East Coast by surprise. It’s almost unbearable in the midday sun, and since Alec doesn’t seem to mind the heat, I’m making it unbearable in another way.

“I told you, it’s a surprise.” Alec sounds like his molars are grinding into dust. Perfect.

“I know, and I told you that I want to know. So, where are we going?” I saddle up beside him and poke his chest for good measure, which doesn’t accomplish much because he’s sculpted from granite.

“Leena, you do know what a surprise is, right?” Alec quips, looking at me from the corner of his eye as we continue walking.

“Oh ha ha. Very funny. I just want to know where we’re going, Alec. Come on.”
