Chapter 21: Witches and Wolves

We walk for almost an hour, taking our time to be stealthy and use the element of surprise to our advantage. When Alec perks up, head back and nose to the air, Bumble is already retreating into my hair. Now that Alec picked up the scent, we’re moving much quicker, and when his hand reaches out, pressing against my side to still me, I know we’re getting close.
“So what’s the plan?” I ask, crouching down next to Alec as he finds cover beside bushes and overgrown brush.
Alec looks torn for a moment, ripping his gaze from me before breathing a labored sigh, “I need your help, Lee.”
“Okay, how?” Because the way he said it makes it sound like he’s unhappy with the decision.
“Do you remember when we were ambushed?”
“How can I forget?” I quip, voice still quiet as we sit on damp earth, moisture soaking into the material of my jeans Alec insisted I wear for protection.
