"Thanks for this,'' I tell Major calmly. He looks drained from earlier and I feel terrible for all I have asked him. He smiles widely and his perfectly white teeth come into view. With a wink, he slaps my shoulder playfully "I would do it all in a heartbeat.''
He is flirting again and I don't even mind it. He knows that I will never return his feelings, so he is only hurting himself. My heart belongs to Gyles and Rex. They are all I want. I walk him out of the house and he stops in front of the door with a flirty smile. His smile is deep and pierces into his eyes. Maybe in another world, we would have actually been an item—a world where he wasn't a jerk to me.
"What is the plan on locating Levine?'' he asks me, his expression changing to a serious one.
