Tears prickled Xendy's eyes. He forced his mouth shut after a dangerous growl as he accidentally scared the bird and made it turn to face him. His hands were shaking.
It might be a gunshot wound. She is wounded. He thought. Xendy tore his shirt and went running for the bird's stomach.
His mind was going crazy. The pain he felt through the mate bond was too much. When he got closer, and searched. There was no wound in the stomach.
But there was so much blood around her. He started scrolling through her feathers in a rush. Searching for the wounds.
Before the bird lost more blood, he had to locate the source and close it. He wasn't letting his mate die on his watch.
He was not failing his mate too, like he did to his people.
“I am so sorry I shouldn't have left you on your own,” he said the words with tears threatening his eyes. He picked the bird up bridal style and walked to the door of the bathroom.
To wash the feathers and try to find the source of the wound, bleeding the bird. There was too much blood dripping out of its feathers and wings.
At this rate, he thought he would be late when he found the place where his mate was wounded and bleeding. And he did not know what to do then.
He mind-linked Alpha Billnas to find an animal doctor or a vet care that took care of birds. Someone with help who could make it to the hotel as fast as possible.
He was not allowing his mate to die like this. He had never experienced fear like the fear washing through him. Fear of losing something that meant everything to him.
His mate was his life now.
His mate had brought him back from the clutches of death. He owed everything he was now to this bird in front of him.
And he vowed in his head he was going to kill whoever did this to his mate. He walked in fast paces to the bathroom.
But by the moment, he got to the bathroom door. His bird kept making terrified sounds that he never heard it make in the past couple of days.
He never heard such noises in all the time they were together, and it scared him more. It was as if its heart was leaving the bird's body and it couldn't stay alive any longer.
He hurriedly walked faster into the bathroom, the blood already soaking his pants. Without wasting time, he placed the bird in a Jacuzzi to clean the feathers up and see where the wound was.
As soon as it got in a Jacuzzi, it put its wings high, ready to fly, and he used extra energy to force the bird to keep calm. His pleading face was visible.
As the water reached the bird's claws and feathers. The bird let out a pained cry that was so high it could reach the neighboring rooms.
Unexpectedly..... Yet again, the bond mate link connected abruptly again. What was the deal with the bond mate link? He questioned himself.
But the connection had one similar character. And that was pain. He could now feel her pain, another kind of pain. Compared to the previous one, this was more painful.
Pain from burning all over its body. Xendy felt as if the air was sucked out of his lungs. His eyes traveled to his mate.
With the thought of burning in his mind. It scared Xendy more to see smoke rising high out of the Jacuzzi.' the water must be hot'; he thought. And he quickly turned his eyes to look at the heater switch.
To his surprise, the heater switch was turned off. Then he quickly put his fingers in the water and touched the water with his fingers.
He wanted to feel the Jacuzzi's water temperature, and the water felt cold. 'What was going on?' He wondered.
He traced the smoke to its source.
When he found it. His eyes went wide open.
It looked like the water was putting off the fire on the bird's body.
The fire was burning her feathers. Instead of black patches or blisters or wounds forming on the bird's skin after the feathers were burnt off, it revealed human skin.
With the raising of the water in the Jacuzzi, all the wings and feathers disappeared the moment they encountered the water. Xendy could now see the body parts that were hidden behind the wings and feathers of the bird.
His eyes were almost popping out as he stood abruptly. Not believing his eyes.
The bird.
His mate.
His mate was a human hidden behind the feathers and wings of a bird.
Xendy watched as her face was the first to develop after, with curry hair overgrowing down to the floor of the jacuzzi. Then he saw organs and bones grow under the body's skin.
She pushed the first arm out, then the second arm out. In a few seconds, she had morphed into the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
'Was his mate a shapeshifter?' he questioned himself. 'Why didn't she ever try to shift in the last couple of days?' No answers.
She was an angel sitting naked and vulnerable before his eyes.
A glimpse of the beauty he was holding in his arms. She was perfect, with perfect curves, an hourglass shape, taller in the human form than she was as a bird.
And her hair was curry and golden black resting on his hand that made his hand prickle in a good way. Her eyes glowed with a bit of shimmer and were blue like his.
Her long slender legs underwater were tantalizing his soul, and she was a brown-skinned girl, with a caramel complexion.
That wasn't all, as his eyes moved to her perky breasts. Y could not take the wait any longer. The primal needs had taken all over. It was time to mark their mate.
And before Xendy knew it. Y had taken over and was in control of their mind. Bringing his lips to her. Ready to have her and completely mate her. Marking his territory. He could not wait any longer.
